i wonder what this means!

STEVE IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN JOE!!! caps

joe is better than the crap they have now! BLUE TALKS AND TELLS STORIES! TALKS I TELL YOU, TALKS!

Hey guys. On a serious note… Last night did not go well. Me and my mom were suposed to talk to my dad about Exeter. When ever I mentioned it he would just completely ignore it. He thought it was a joke. I told him a worked really hard and I really wanted to go. He yelled and left the table. My mom just sat there staring at me and trying not to cry. I’m still determined to go though. I’m going to have my mom call the financial aid office to see if we can get more aid. My mom is also going to talk to one of the admissions officers that we know and ask her to call my dad when he’s at work and talk to him about how much Exeter has to offer. My dad won’t even look into the school at all. He probably doesn’t even remember the name. I’m not giving up but its not looking like its going to happen :(

@flipp: I’m sorry :frowning: Maybe he’ll come around. What was his thinking originally when you applied?

I’m so sorry Flip. My father came around when I got in w/ more aid then expected. Try and get your mother to talk to him? Find something he likes to do w/ you (if there is something) that you don’t really like doing and normally avoid and talk to him then. Mabye acknowledge his Financial concerns and the tell him how it’ll really help you in life?

He was really mad when I applied and wouldn’t even listen to me then. I told him I might not even get accepted so we shouldn’t make a big deal about it until I was. My mom won’t talk to him. She lets him walk all over her and always get his way. My dad just thinks I should be looking into college and getting a college scholarship. He keeps saying colleges don’t care what high school you go to. He just thinks you need okay grades and a lot of money. Now is a horrible time for this too. He’s totally stressed out because the river is flooding and my house is in danger. We are starting sandbagging tomorrow.

Put it down on a peace of paper: Pros and Cons of attending a good BS (in a bullet form) and show it to your dad:

Pros:

 • Academically you will be challenged and make you better person overall
 • You are more likely to get into an Ivy League school with scholarship once you pass out of BS.
 • Most likely your College education will be free.
 • It is an investment he can make now for your future college acceptance.
 • You are lilkey to get a better job.
 • You will have a good network of friends for rest of your life.
 • There are less drugs and distraction is BS
 • You have worked very hard for this dream to come true
 • You are driven by it and you will promise you dad you will make him proud with your achievement.

Cons of not attend a Good BS:

 • Current school does not provide all the opportunities.
 • Current school has no infrastructure or facility to exhale or be challenged.
 • More drugs and distractions.
 • You are not driven or motivated, since no challenges exist.
 • More difficult to get into a good college with scholarship.

Other can add some more.
Don’t go more then one sheet of paper. Keep it simple for your dad.

Also, colleges are more likely to accept applicants from BS. Because (imo) they are more adjusted to what they would be getting into(hard work/away from home etc…)

Thanks! I’ll try, but my dad is really closed minded. He doesn’t think there is anything wrong with my current school and his friend who graduated from it like 20 years ago got into MIT. He says there’s a lot of kids who get into Ivy League schools from my public school, but only because they are rich. He told me I would never be able to go to one because I won’t be able to afford it. He doesn’t believe me when I tell him I will be able to get better scholarships.

I don’t like your dad, sorry.

Neither do I. Neither does anyone really. Ugh its soooo frustrating. And nobody here understands. Nobody has even heard of Exeter or boarding school where I live. It sucks so bad!!

(sorry if this seems insensitive but) THIS is why I like NE  (yeah that seemed insensitive) we could use you out here! the more smart people the better!

ooops double post

Thats why I want to go NE. Its where all the cool people live :)

Yayyyyy! Join us, join uuuuuus

Also, I’m sure that you can prove your dad wrong and get into an Ivy with a scholarship if you want to!

one of us.one of us.ONE OF US. ONE OF US…

or you can go crazy psycho killer and torch him…but whatever floats your boat  jk btw

Johohohohohoin uhuhuhuhuhus

Fargo ND? Wow, we have a girl at Kent who tells us horror stories about how awful it was and close minded… Only good thing is that the academic standards are so low that your chances at an Ivy would be a good bit better at a public school vs boarding… At BS you need a 223 on the PSAT for NMSQT recognition as an NMS, in North Dakota you need a 202 if my memory serves me correctly. National average is 160 or something around there I believe, so to be in the top 2% of ND you need a 202+ and the top 2% of BS is 223+…

If things go for the worst, it isn’t all bad. I come from TN and I faced similar challenges, but ND takes the cake… Just remember you can still come out on top of this with a great future.

What’s wrong with North Dakota? It sounds nice enough?
