I am really nervous/excited about BS… haha. How does everyone feel?

i’m half excited and half scared. it’s gonna be such a new thing for me, coming from halfway around the world! i’m sad to leave home but it’s nice to have a change of scenery.

I’m excited and scared too. And I’m sad to leave my best friend.

I don’t really know what to expect… haha.

I just hope that the work is so hard and my friends are so fun, that I won’t have time to miss my parents and home!

@cutiedida, me too!!

you guys are so lucky that home isn’t an 18-hour flight away.

@aaeroplanes, where do you live?? (not in a creepy way)

I think he said Manila in a previous post :)

But I understand what aaeroplanes means - it takes about 12 hours in total for me to get to Boston
and that’s just me living in Central America. I remember when I lived in Africa - it would take the ENTIRE day to get all the way to the US :(.

Haha, I went to China this summer, it took an entire day and night to get there (including stops)

I’m jealous jealous jealous that y’all get to travel so much! My parents traveled a ton right after they got married, so they don’t feel the need to go anywhere farther than the beach now. I’m already saving up for my three month backpacking Europe adventure! It will happen sometime in the future, I’m sure.
And JoshByron, I didn’t know you lived in Central America! I always imagined you living in Vermont or somewhere… not sure why, haha.

^me too!

I always thought he was some blonde guy in NE. Guess i didn’t really think about it though
lol

BHAHAHAHHA - well, I AM blonde
but nope, I’ve never lived in the states before. I only vacation there during the summer. I’ve actually moved around quite a lot - 7 countries so far, and USA will be the 8th.

@Bama!!! Oh my god, I’m also planning on backpacking around Europe!!! Right after I graduate though (before going to Brown
)
And you don’t really need THAT much money - just enough for trains/taxis (for when necessary), food, hostels/motels/hotels and stuff :)

I have been to SO many countries… all seven continents
And my parents are like “You need to know Europe to be properly educated” so I am on of “those” kids… like the ones who go to Europe EVERY VACATION. Being home wouldn’t be bad sometimes :(

Wait, what do you mean by a backpacking trip? I’ve never been anywhere without my family before :-/

You don’t know what a backpacking trip is? Well, basically, you travel around a continent (it’s most common in Europe), basically like hippes - with a backpack in your back containing a few changes of clothes, maybe a tent, some food, etc. Most backpackers save up before backpacking, but I’ve had a few friends who settle in towns and ask around for jobs for that night. You usually spend the night at hostels or cheap hotels. You usually just hitchhike, but taxis and trains work well too. Backpacking isn’t really everyone’s cup of tea, but me and my friends have been planning on touring Europe since 7th grade :). With all the moving, we hardly ever see each other, so it’s kind of like something we promised to fulfill for graduation. Although, we might not slum it out like actual backpackers - I think I would be a little disgusted by traveling like that (mostly the part of rarely changing clothes). And, after that movie Hostel…I don’t think we’ll be staying at any motels/hostels/or cheap hotels. But we’re gonna try our best to keep it the way it should be :)

That sounds so fun!! I really don’t care about a rare change of clothes, as long as I get to shower. My parents would NEVER let me, though. :P

That’s really interesting that you move around so much! If you don’t mind me asking, what do your parents do?
As of right now, none of my friends are interested in backpacking. So I suppose I’ll go by myself. I’ve actually heard it’s a lot of fun that way, because you meet people at hostels and explore the city with them. I wish I could go NOW! Maybe if boarding school doesn’t work out, I’ll drop out of school and become a European bum. ![]()
I’ve tried talking to my parents about skipping a couple of our anual Disney World vacations and going to the UK or something. Their response was “Can you imagine dealing with seven children on an international flight?!?” I suppose World Showcase at Epcot will have to suffice, at least for now!

Yeah, it’s pretty fun too
I LOVE traveling, but moving every two years and having to make new friends and adjust all over again is pretty though. You would think after moving 7 times it would get easier, but not really. It’s not too bad though
My parents work for the foreign service/state department (don’t really know the difference). But, the cool thing is that the amount of kids who’s parents do the same thing is actually pretty large, so I’m not the only one who has to adjust every time I move.

:O by yourself!!! You should really watch Hostel, or even Turistas - you’ll completely change your mind
My parents are exactly the same!!! Every summer we go to the middle of nowhere in the states (Minnesota) and I BEG my parents to take us somewhere else…and they never do!

yeah, i live in the philippines. it’s a long trip - it’s usually like six hours to korea, a couple of hours for a stopover, and then thirteen more hours to JFK. and then it’s a three-hour drive to boston or something.

i haven’t traveled around the US much - i am purely an east coast girl! and i’ve only been to europe once (i went to rome and florence this summer. SO beautiful) and i’ve been to a couple of asian countries. i can’t wait to go around europe with my friends after high school or college (dad SWEARS it’s a “rite of passage”) and for some reason, i really want to go to antarctica.
