<p>Think of what YOU have that you don’t think most other applicants will have. Or think of an extraordinary situation, and exploit that to your advantage. Or just take something and write about it from a non-stereotypical point of view.</p>
<p>Is it a very bad idea to write sth big like some social issues even if I feel strongly about it?</p>
<p>No it isn’t. It’s the writer who decides the effectiveness of an essay, not the topic.</p>
<p>But make sure you dont write something offensive as the reader might have different views.</p>
