application review process

I’ve heard from many people on CC that UVA has an incredible review process. I even read one post on a question about deciding between UVA and another school that said to go to UVA BECAUSE of their selection process. What exactly is it and just how great is it?

I’m asking because I’m nervous from waiting and OOS, which drops my chances. My ACT is high enough (31), but my gpa is kind of low. I think (and hope) that my essays are great enough to make up for the gpa. The essays are personal, and they show who I am.

Any input is appreciated!

I do know that they prioritize GPA/course rigor the most by far, so that’s probably gonna hurt your chances :frowning:

@as1799, I want to see this post! I’d say our review is very thorough, but I don’t think that’s highly unusual. We try to be very up front about what’s important in our process and I try to give a lot of updates about where we are in the review via my social media. I don’t think our review is the reason to apply…I would hope that students are applying because there’s something about UVA that matches up with the things they want and need in a college.

@deeznuts, where did you hear that one? GPA is a subjective number. We look at course selection and grades. GPA attempts to summarize that, but doesn’t tell the full story.

@“Dean J” this is why I love Virginia! You are by far the best communicating school! Thanks for the response, and I’ll try to find the post
