Applying when school hasn't updated GPA's?

College applications are opening up soon and I’m starting to get everything together. A teacher I asked for a recommendation from asked for an academic resume but my school hasn’t updated GPA’s or class ranks yet. I emailed my G.C. about it and she said neither would be updated until October. Am I supposed to use my GPA from the first semester of my Junior Year to apply? The school took it off our online database so I don’t remember my exact value. Sorry if this is an odd question but I’m really confused about what I’m supposed to do if I don’t have an updated GPA. It doesn’t make much sense to use the first semester from junior year but October is pretty late to start applying to colleges (I’m planning on doing theatre and there are many hoops to jump through- starting as soon as you can is a must).

Not sure how your HS cannot update your transcripts prior to October? I would get a copy of your transcripts now, see what information is missing, find your report card from 2nd semester Junior year and use an on-line calculator to calculate your GPA. Each school weights their Honors/AP/IB or DE courses differently, so I would just use the unweighted GPA you get from the calculation for now. I would also look at each school’s website that you are applying to see if they have a specific recommendation on how to calculate your GPA for that particular school.

Agreed. And if they give no advice on how to calculate GPA (which will be the case for the vast majority of colleges), use your most recent GPA as it appears on your transcript. Although I am also at a loss as to how the HS cannot update until October. Regardless, since you’re looking at theatre programs, your transcript is less critical in the process than it would be for other programs.

HSs often update the GPAs at different points in the year. Just use the one you currently have…if it goes up in the future, then use that…but most colleges you won’t be applying to until after Oct anyway.

Thanks everyone! Yeah my school is pretty crazy, but we do class rank and all that fun stuff so I think the counselors are just super busy and can’t get them all done until October.
