APUSH Study Game!

vertical integration was associated with Andrew Carnegie and U.S. Steel, controlling every aspect of the steel industry. John Rockefeller represents horizontal integration and his Standard Oil Company, which controlled the refining process of oil.

Yea, he didn’t think all trusts were bad.

My teacher made us learn about vertical/horizontal integrations and which companies did what. We didn’t go into that much detail but to just know a basic understanding would help you on the exam, especially if the essay questions are related to that. It’s also easy to remember if you look at it from a logical point of view.

Vertical: from top to down, own everything from raw materials to production.
Horizontal: buy out all competition on the production stage

Teddy Roosevelt and his “Square Deal”? anyone?

Interstate commerce commision: Regulated railroads

Before, railroads were recieveing massive land grants… this helped curb their power

He attacked trusts too… Clayton Anti-trust Act?

it was called the “magna carta of labor”…didnt it exclude unions from being considered monopolies/trusts?

Yep… i think sherman anti trust act before it reversed that ideology though

not even kidding… this video = 5

[YouTube - American History Rap](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku3VFoRSn-g)

ya, the sherman one allowed farms and small businesses to get persecuted and i think clayton antitrust act reversed that too

Funny! Its clever!

Ok New Deal programs include:

NIRA
AAA
SEC
TVA
FDIC
CCC

right?

i’m pretty sure we don’t need to know specific new deal programs

can someone give the trends of farmers and women over the course of american history? the ap test really likes these kind of questions

The only thing wrong about the video is that they say the New Deal
brought the US out depression…which it didn’t…

yeah i agree… i think the New Deal got the U.S above water, but mobilization for WWII really got the country out of the Depression

new deal helped enough that roosevelt accidentally thought he could decrease spending but it caused another mini recession

NYA is a pretty important program too

And WPA for useless jobs :)

Ok at first, many americans praised farmers…

Jefferson dreamed of a yeoman society of farmers.
Then, farmers began spreading westward… Homestead Act, etc.
Farmers began producing lots of crops…blah blah
Then railroads come and canals and farmers become able to transport goods easier. Then, gold becomes more inflated and farmers can’t afford
goods. As well, they are overproducing with new machinery… Lead’s to
Populist party formation (William Jennings Bryan, cross of gold speech). Then Republican presidents start making it harder
for farmers… they can’t compete with monopolized farmers. Then New Deal gives producers cooperatives and land grants to farmers (AAA?)

women- little right to begin w/, moral example role (republican motherhood), pinkcollar jobs, got temporary jobs in WWI, more permanent place in workplace after WWII
the suffrage movement- declaration of sentiments? slowed by depression? 19th amendment,

Define republican motherhood please. I always forget it!

Populism (WJB) and Progressivism?
