"Archie: the Man Who Became Cary Grant"

Anyone seen it? Is it worth paying the subscription fee for Britbox, if you’re old enough to remember the real thing?

H and I watched it - but we already subscribe to Britbox. I found it interesting. Most of the focus is on his early life and then later his relationship with Dyan Cannon.

That’s very revealing. The ingredients for a fascinating mini-series do exist; all each episode would have to do is focus on one of his five marriages, each to a completely different woman and covering about half a century of active celebrity status. But I guess his estate would have objections to taking that approach.

The series’ executive producers include Dyan Cannon and their daughter, Jennifer Grant, and is based on a book by Jennifer Grant, so I’m assuming that’s why it’s the emphasis. The other marriages are all mentioned, but it’s only 4 episodes, so it doesn’t cover big portions of his life.

It turns out that Amazon Prime offered Episode One for free. I was actually very impressed: the writing, the casting, the production values, all seemed to hit the right notes. Fun fact: Jason Isaac (Cary Grant) played Lucius Malvoy in the Harry Potter movies.
