Are Gay-Pride Parades counter-productive?

<p>The whole point of these parades is to create “awareness” about the lgbt community in hopes to create tolerance and acceptance. But, I feel like the way the parades are done now just give homophobes more of a reason to point and say “look, they’re degenerates.”
Yeah, the parades are fun, colorful and exciting, but are they working? </p>

<p>The definition of “public demonstration” should be changed to “an action that detracts from the cause one is attempting to promote by annoying those who are opposed or apathetic.”</p>
