Are scarves on their way out?

I love them, however I find I don’t wear them as often this fall except a couple favorites. They’ve enjoyed quite the popularity for the past 4 or 5 years, but I think I see the end by next fall. I remember the last time, I just folded them away for several years until their re-emergence in the fashion world. So what do you think? Are they slowly on their way out? They are so warm and can really dress up an outfit.

I think scarves have always been “in” – especially in Europe, where women have always worn them with flair. In the US, scarves also have been popular forever n cold weather climates. That said, I do think the trend of wearing those long, gynormous ones, the ones the size of a small blanket that end up hanging down practically to your knees – I think those will slowly disappear. With reason

I don’t think they are on their way out. If you look at any fashion blogs, there are tons. Lots of blanket scarves this year.

D wears them a lot.

I think we are going to be seeing more long, skinny silk scarves. About the width of a man’s tie, but all one width. Or maybe skinnier. I’ve seen a number of stylish women wearing them lately.

Hope not! They are such an easy way to incorporate a third piece that adds interest to a basic outfit, especially for travel. http://wwwear.it/1DUxPa2

My girls love the infinity scarf look, especially as it looks nice with the curly noodle of their own hair.

I wear them year-round. Of course, they are not heavy or made for sub-zero temps, just accent pieces unless it’s a bit cool.

What could replace a scarf in cold weather?

I have a ton of scarves…and wear them often. If they go “out”…tough…I will wear them anyway.

Not as cold this year to wear them. I just started wearing them this past week.

They’re not out here in San Francisco. They’re a necessity in this cold! (Although it’s a surprisingly warm 65 here today.)

I see them on women of all ages here in Seattle, especially the infinity scarves on the teens and 20’s. D has a dozen of them, and yes, wears them to add interest to a basic outfit. She’s wearing the heavy ones right now as it’s cold here, but wears the lighter ones in her college town where it’s more moderate.

I loooovvve scarves. Big ones, little ones, silk ones, wool ones, fur ones, pashima shawls, perky neckerchiefs.

When I travel, most of the clothes I pack are boring black, but I’ll pack a bunch of scarves. During this Christmas trip, I bought myself a crazy, electric blue, Tibetan lamb one that looks like a shaggy, Rastafarian feather boa. Livens up my ultra boring black overcoat.

I can’t stand having anything around my neck, not even a necklace, but scarves are popular here even though it doesn’t get very cold. The stores are still full of them, too, so I guess they’ll be around for a while.

I have scarves dating back to my grandmother! I tend to do scarves rather than jewelry around my neck. I’ve gotten pickier as I’ve gotten older, but now I get artisan scarves from the places we travel. I love the look.

Scarves have never been “in” or “out” in Europe. Europeans wear them all the time…

Our flagship Nordie’s now carries Hermes scarves… I guess they would not have used the remodeled floor space if those were out.

I wear them all the time starting in the fall. I put them away usually by April.

I still wear my Hermes scarves. I like big scarves when it is cold.I don’t think they are going out of style.

Glad to hear this actually.

I jumped onto the scarf bandwagon just a couple of years ago…I hope to never go back! I like a very simple wardrobe…mostly black, grey, grey-blue/cream/brown tees, sweaters and jeans/trousers. So much easier and more fun to throw on an artisanal scarf for flair than fiddling with clothing choices… and when the scarf’s big enough you can sometimes get away with forgoing a certain constricting undergarment, lol

Knitting is suddently exploding again, both on college campuses and in my area, at least. My daughter took up knitting at her college just a couple of months ago and is now a knitting fiend. She never wore a scarf until she knitted herself two. She needs them, she is in Maine. I think we are at the start of a new knitting craze.

My gf just gave me a beautiful infinity scarf for my birthday that she knitted. Lovely colors and very soft yarn.

One of my nieces found that knitting when in class (at a small lac) and just listening to professor helped her retain the material much better than taking notes. She was already an excellent knitter so it was second nature to her.
