Everybody has been saying that you have to be absolutely amazing if you want to pursue a career in finance or accounts in the US . Is it true?

I don’t quite understand your question. The question is if you’re interested in Finance and/or Accounts. Please keep in mind that both are significantly different.
If you are interested and work hard, it shouldn’t be a big deal (I know the advice is open ended, but your question is pretty obscure).

People have been telling me that you have to work xtra , Xtra hard and be extra smart if you want to reach even a mediocre position in your career ,while in science stream careers that is not the case.

Sorry for being so unclear earlier.

That is completely false

I think for international students, to be sponsored for h1 and get jobs, there are more opportunities in the science/engineering sector where local talent is getting smaller. So employers are more willing to recruit internationals. For finance/accounting, I don’t think there is shortage of local students.
