Are there any benefits to being a salutatorian?

Im a senior right now and I just wanted to know because right now I am ranked 4/250 at my school. I have loaded up on the AP classes and online courses hoping to pass the 2 people ahead of me (I have no shot at #1, he has gotten straight A’s since freshman year). When I talk about benefits I mean are there any scholarships, money, or colleges that will give a better look if I get to be salutatorian.
Thanks.

The name “salutatorian” strikes as much fear in the hearts of adcoms or scholarship givers as “valadictorian;” which is very little. As long as you rank high, colleges will give you a chance. And you rank very high. You will get scholarships, money, etc. based just on your achievements.

The real question is this: Are there any benefits to being a valedictorian?

Answer: No, the valedictorian stats can’t be determined by the time you send in your stats to colleges. (There are probably some benefits like scholarships or something but I think the main focus here is admission chances)

On the otherhand, it does give self-satisfaction and you get to give a speech during graduation. WOW… anyway, to apply this to your question, substitute salutatorian in for valedictorian ^above^. So don’t worry about it, (at least for admissions) if you can get it great, but if you can’t don’t be sad about it, you’re not missing out on a whole lot.

Just my two cents on it. :)

yeah, those honors are determined after the college admissions process. But colleges will still know if are ranked number 2 at the time of admission. And don’t listen to that guy who responded right after you, valEdictorian and Salutatorian honors are impressive.

Hey, I didn’t say it wasn’t impressive. I’m proud of being Salutatorian myself (guy in front of me got credit for his foreign language, but German 3 didn’t count for a GPA boost even though it was the exact same class as German 4; I’m still bitter about that) I said rank is important, but there isn’t lot of weight put on just being Valedictorian or Salutatorian. That was his question, after all.
