Are there any normal people on this forum?

If so, let’s hear from you whether you got in, are hoping to get in, or got denied. Im sick of people saying,

Oh my god! Im so nervous I dont know if ill get in!
Chance me!!
GPA 4.5
SAT 1600/1600 2300/2400(OOPS!! hahahah)
President of every club at my school
Captain of three varsity sports
Worked since I was able to walk

So annoying.

hah bro I am so with you.
IDK if Im considered normal but I have a 3.8 and a 1280 (CR+M) on my SAT

LOL - great first post! I know you want to hear from other students (parent here), but I tend to agree - alot of angst from real over achievers. FYI, my D has worked hard in hs, been successful, but not perfect - note - I am the one on CC - not her! she does not even know about CC…I am amazed at some of the stats I see - along with ALL those extracurrics…do they ever sleep or go out for fun?

Honestly most of the time i come here on CC, I get depressed cause everyone seems to be so much better than me. haha

so true…especially the one about the parent on CC when the kid can’t be bothered!! My S is bright, but didn’t apply himself in high school until a bit too late. His test scores are good, but his GPA is terrible (by standards for most of the CC folks). I wouldn’t mind, except that we need him to get in somewhere that he likes that we can afford…so I’m really hopeful about CPSLO.

Certaninly, but the better question is “are there any normal people that have been accepted?”

My son is a normal person. Yes, he has a high GPA and strong tests scores, but he did not take every AP class available and he didn’t do anything as far as extracurriculars at his school. All of his extra stuff is outside of school. Right now he is playing video games and getting ready to hang with friends. I’m sorry if hearing about someone’s high stats makes you feel bad or worried about getting in. There will be some students with very high stats at Cal Poly, but plenty of other lower, but strong students too. It is a tough school to get into, so you will see pretty high stats. Every person has a different story and academic/social history. Let’s be positive here.

Got in with a 3.65 and a 26 act. having life>then studying everyday all day. Surf play tennis etc

ya Im sick of the kids who are nervous of getting in with there amazing stats, and thinking the world is gonna end if they don’t.

Kaico-did u get in this year, or sometime in the past?

My daughter is as normal as they come. She’s not an “academic geek” or a brainiac. Far from it. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! She just happens to apply herself and mostly memorizes facts. Some kids are very driven and competitive. That’s not her. Oh, she might compete with herself a bit, but for the most part she’s very well-rounded and sociable. I am very proud of her for being self-directed and goal-oriented. And I’m also glad that she has a life outside of school and her studies. It’s all about balance. :)

Im so glad Im not the only mom feeling that way-my son is playing pool with his girlfriend-not on this forum-

Yes, seriously. When I look at a lot of these posts, I feel like I’m already rejected. It makes me very worried.

one of the guys down the hall from my bros dorm had his room searched by a drug sniffing dog. they didnt find the weed he had hidden under his mattress. funny stuff…

My daughter never comes to this forum. In fact, I’m the only one in our household who visits CC. My husband wouldn’t THINK of it. He’s a h.s. math teacher and very laid back when it comes to all of this college-stuf. Right now my girl is at a friend’s birthday party and sleep-over. And, frankly I think she’s more excited about her first job she got yesterday.

I think that a lot of the “normal” people don’t post on CC, because they aren’t so worried about getting into Ivy League or other very competitive schools.

Statistically, the vast majority of college students would not be accepted at an Ivy League or competitive school, but they still got into college, and later get good jobs, etc. But, I doubt most of these students are posting on CC.

Getting into an Ivy League college does not guarantee that you will be happy and successful. Conversely, I know many successful (and happy) people who went to state colleges or small liberal arts colleges.

Try as hard as you can not to get depressed when you read the Ivy League posts. If I were you, I’d skip them altogether. Cal Poly SLO is a good school–nothing to apologize for. I couldn’t tell from the original post if the poster had been accepted into Cal Poly. There are lots of good state schools in CA–“normal” people DO get into college.

Could someone please clarify for me all the comments on EC’s on the Cal Poly SLO forum? I understand that for UC and many more they are definitely considered. Correct me if I’m wrong but on the SLO application it’s a yes or no question as to whether you participated as well as if you held a leadership position, so why are you all listing them in detail as a factor in admission decisions if SLO does not even have knowledge of them?

cuz they wanna rub it in our faces. that, and they’re so used to typing it on the boards for the other colleges which require nothing short of sainthood

boom91 I think here on the san luis obispo threads it’s just parents posting those long lists of accomplishments. Maybe they didn’t know we just had those four yes/no questions about having ECs/work/leadership. I just skim those posts for GPA and SAT/ACT and estimate the number of EC/work hours and skip the rest.

Accepted! Mechanical Engineering! Yippee!

Thank you . Honestly I am a Mom and thought maybe we missed filling out a crucial part of the application. Good luck to you all!
