Are there any universities you hate?

(Hope nobody from UIC is reading this, because it’s rude, but…) The only reason for this is that everybody knows that there’s an incredibly elite school in Chicago, but most people think this is UIC instead of U of C. They see U of C’s incredible presence in the media and they keep mistaking it for UIC, and suddenly everyone in the Chicago area thinks that UIC is one of the most prestigious schools in the country (especially its students)… wrong school!

I wish U of C would sue them or pay them off to change the name, since it really infringes on Chicago’s name-brand (and is almost the sole reason why it can’t get any attention).

Why hate MIT, futureexec?!

^She doesn’t have the grammar to get in. x]

I strongly dislike MIT.
In 2004 there was a survey and like 74% of students said they suffer from psychological problems.
Dislike Northwestern just because it’s UChicago’s academic rival haha!

I can’t believe that someone cares enough to hate the University of Cincinnati. How cute.

@phuriku, I live in suburban chicago, and there is a ridiculous amount of people who have no idea what uChicago is. They all assume it’s the same as UIC, which, except for a few really strong programs, is just an average public city school. I don’t particularly like uChicago (my username is from the fact that I live here, not that I want to go to uChi), but it would definitely get more public recognition if UIC changed its name.

wut? .

I agree with MIT. I don’t like Duke.

Dannav… Vandy gets the hype because of its name. Same as Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Yale, Harvard, and a slew of other private institutions that are named after large donors…

However, I wouldnt go so far as to say that Vandy, or any other of these places, are bad and only get recognition because of the namesake, Im just explaining why Vandy gets a lot of attention – there a a few Vanderbilts still kickin’ around!

And, Im not the biggest fan of MIT myself… Great academics, but the schools feels weird to me…

‘Hate’ is a strong word; I believe the only kind of people who can truly hate a well-known university–all of it, including its students, staff, location, architecture, and whatever–is a student, alumni or teacher who actually attends/attended/has a job at the university. Other things are either based on one part of a university or stereotypes.

That being said…one of my top choices (#2 or 3) is UCLA and I’m consciously not applying to USC. =P And apparently UC Berkeley has a quasi-rivalry with Stanford, but I’m cool with Stanford.

I also dislike universities that seem great from the spam mail they send me, but they’re in the middle of nowhere (no offense to people living in certain states).
Speaking of that–when will universities learn to send better spam mail? I’m sick of every letter I open (and I do look at every one) that goes “Take our quiz by logging into this specialized account number and get a free booklet, 10 Tips on Getting Into College!”. Then they go on to brag about stuff that makes them sound like every other university in the country.

I hate University of Michigan so much, don’t get me started… I also don’t like USC, but I still hate Michigan more. Also don’t like UNC much, either.

Duke in particular. I feel like they’re… trying to push themselves as elite and I don’t think they deserve that title.

As much as posters on here may hate Duke, Harvard, or other “elite” schools, the fact of the matter (regardless of whether people like it or not) is that these schools garner a reputation in the working world that is unmatched by other schools. As “pretentious” and “obnoxious” as they are, these schools excel in academics in ways other schools can’t even begin to match.

I mean, I was rejected by Harvard and wait-listed by Duke, but I bear no hatred toward either school. People may not completely “love” particular schools, but each school deserves its own respect. Same goes for the UC system – as much as people diss the UC system, its reputation in the real world is substantiated.

I feel like there’s a lot of hatred towards Duke on this thread, why? just curious

I don’t like USC but that is because I am an UCLA alumnae…

^^^^ I don’t think anyone here hates Duke because of their academics. It’s their basketball team…haha

Also what matt said. I took a visit to their campus 2 years ago. Very…preppy.

yeah, just hate duke for that basketball coach a-hole, otherwise I don’t know/care about it

I hate UCLA for requiring SAT 2s this year but not next year (2012 admissions). I refuse to take them. :p

I guess I hate Rutgers… as does almost every top kid in NJ haha (even though I’ll probably get close to a full ride)

Lol, yeah Cincy I don’t really hate. Not much anyway. Only in sports occasionally.
Coach K can go burn. I hate Duke athletics.

Why hate MIT, it’s awesome.

For some odd reason, I don’t understand Cornell and how they admit people.
Same goes for USC, something really bothers me about their legacy admits.
