Yeah, Cornell is actually a mystery. So is Stanford.

But I like Harvard and Caltech. Duke is awesome too! How could you hate it? Coach K is actually nice in person I think. He’s kinda of a jerk on TV, but he has to be. You gotta be strict if you want things to happen, ya know?

It took a while for me to like Caltech lol. It was a huge Duke vs Caltech thing that happened in my house. I was a little towards the Duke side, but my parents wanted me nearby, so I took Caltech.

Which one offered the better FinAid? Or which did you like better? My parents would love me to be at George Mason, but I said F that. They WILL pay for my apps to top colleges, regardless of their *****ing about money.

lol…I got no financial aid at all. We don’t have much assets because my dad’s first gen and the first to go to college from our family.
Our gramps are really poor.
BUT
Dad earns…a lot…he’s the software chief architect at Google…so yeah. A LOT. haha.

Comp sci as a minor. Comp sci is interesting (like Artificial intelligence research, etc). Programming is pretty fun and fetches you a LOT of money (my dad’s secret to earning A LOT —> major in comp sci lol).
But its really competitive and it can be very antisocial…sometimes boring too.

I’m majoring in biomedical engineering/bioengineering. Its a rising field and biotechnology is pretty kickass. I like it. Its partly the reason why I considered Duke strongly. Duke’s comp sci program is solid too (top 20). Bill Gates’s wife majored in comp sci at Duke so dept gets tons of funding haha.

Haha. To the person who doesn’t understand why Duke is hated, it is pretty much just basketball. I go to Duke and am from NC so I’ve lived with it for a while.

Basketball hatred sometimes is manifested as hatred in other ways, but lots of times it is misguided. People often say that we poor Dukies are too pretentious (we are 10 in the nation but I actually think there is extremely little pretentiousness at Duke compared to other places I visited after being accepted like Georgetown and Cornell, etc.), are all white (our next incoming class is only 49 percent white. LOL), are all rich (we have some of the best financial aid in the nation. If you make less than 60,000 dollars a year you go for…FREE! A large portion of students are on financial aid), or are all from New Jersey (never understood this one. 15 percent alone are North Carolinians while the next represented states are NY, Texas, and California).

Anyway, don’t take things to seriously if someone hates your school. Being hated for no good reason can only make you stronger.

Plus, Cuse and I are used to being hated on for being from UNC/Duke respectively in the state of NC (people here are Duke, UNC, or State fans generally).

Ok, good stuff.

Peace and love my hommies :).

P.S.: I’ve talked to Coach K on numerous occasions as well as the bball players. They are all really nice. :)

@john117: May I ask why you don’t like UC-Berkeley? I actually kind of like that school a lot. I’m not defending it or anything, because I honestly don’t know a lot about it, just that the swimming program there is really good. I don’t know anything about the courses there, so if you could tell me why, I’d love that :)

I don’t really like Brigham Young University. I know all the Mormons on CC are going to completely disagree with me, but to me, it’s way too religion-affiliated. And the way the Mormons at my school completely propogate (is that a word?) it is kind of… well, to me, annoying. I mean of course everybody has their own favorite college/university and they’re going to say, “YEAH! GO BLABLA UNIVERSITY!” but I mean, that’s about it, and you only do that when someone else raises the topic.

Helicio has it right about Duke. Unfortunately, though, posters like lesdiablesbleus tend to portray Duke in a negative light (“they hate us because they’ll be working for us one day”), but you do a good job of counteracting that, Helicio. :)

I know a lot of friends that applied to those schools, but I didn’t even apply. Much too snobby for me. And their academic rigor is… questionable.

All of the state schools in MA bar the UMass system - (Fitchburg State, Bridgewater, Salem, etc.) are the most pitiful excuses for higher education I have ever seen. I didn’t even bother applying to any of them. They give lousy financial aid and everything about the academics/architecture/morale is abysmal. I’d jump at the chance to go to a Community College over bloody Salem State. (gag)

central michigan university. Because when I search “CMU” I sometimes get hits for central michigan university. No, central michigan university, I am not looking for you.
