Are these Universities good enough for an International seeking low contribution? [3.78 GPA, rank 1]

Run the NPC for Louisiana Tech. Here’s what I see. I used 20k annual income, international, 1 kid, 3.75 and 1430. I know they say they not be accurate but. It’s a fine school but not easy to get to.

Maybe you can email to ask if this is true.

But Louisiana Tech says they don’t give need-based aid to international students, and it looks like they also don’t offer merit aid to them.

Can someone with more knowledge post how much in available savings the OP will have to show to US customs to enter the US to attend college? I thought it was one full year of tuition, room and board, as calculated by the college. Does the OP also have to show funds for travel and health insurance?

And can someone confirm that the money needs to be available as cash-on-hand.

Not “cash” but funds available, and they need to show the proof of funds at the consulate to get a student visa. Proof will include evidence of aid or other funding. CBP may ask to see the documentation on entry but by the time the student actually enters the US (cannot be more than 30 days before the course starts) the tuition and housing will probably be paid already. The current page on the Dept of State website says documentation to show “How you will pay all educational, living and travel costs.” Previously it had said one year’s worth of expenses and that is likely to be how they still judge it, but may want an indication of how future funds will be paid (could be renewable aid, proof of recurring parent income such as salary to help pay other expenses, etc):

Evidence of financial ability includes but is not limited to:

  • Family bank statements.
  • Documentation from a sponsor.
  • Financial aid letters.
  • Scholarship letters.
  • Letter from an employer showing annual salary.

I am working on my other options too.

I have seen france, but they require 1 year of French training and The process is vague.

Thank you.

Maybe - here’s what I used - and here’s where they ask if international. I know you all say you can’t trust = but - grasping at straws. Maybe you can take 2 mins and validate me?

I actually wanted to do 20 good application and the rest 20 be the “Hail Mary”

Australia is great for postgrad scholarships, I’ll look for any undergrad ones.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Yes, I have been focusing too much on admissions. I will have to keep up with my academic track too.

I will mail them, thank you

That’s great. It contradicts what their website says—but hopefully it will work!

Thanks!

Thank you so much, my dad is quite familiar with the process.

It depends. Some colleges require that you have the funds readily available to fund all four years of your studies in the U.S. (to get that student visa). Funds available can include already awarded financial aid, savings, money the family has. It cannot include future potential earnings, loans that aren’t already approved, potential gifts from others.

@kelsmom

I am confused on the deadline part. Suppose my college has its deadline on 1st of November and I submit its application through the commonapp before that date, do I need to also complete the things on the app portal before the deadline?

Thank you.

Colleges typically want to see a year of funding to issue the I-20 (required for obtaining a student visa)

But the visa is issued by the State Department and they typically also want to see credible proof of funding for all four years. Ultimately, it’s the consular officer at the consulate or embassy who makes the determination on whether or not to grant the student visa.

To the best of my knowledge, gifts do count as long as they are real, documented and credible.

Schools have different ways of evaluating whether the student will be able to pay for their education, but … it’s not technically the school that determines whether the student has enough resources for school. The U.S. government reviews the information and makes the final determination. I have had students who were refused a visa because they were determined not to be able to finance their education.

When I evaluated ability to pay, I reviewed bank statements and pay statements. It was a grad program, so I required evidence of ability to pay for both years. The promised gift aid from the school was taken into consideration. Again, though, the final determination is made at the visa interview; the student will be denied a visa if the consular officer at the Department of State doesn’t think that they have shown evidence that they can pay.

Can anyone please guide me on whether to take the November or the December SAT (I can only choose one). I might miss out on some scholarships but I think my score will improve better.

In addition, I heard that colleges will consider the updated score. So I believe that november scores have a great chance to be considered.

I talked to a person I know, he told me that most admissions process will remain closed in december. So taking the december Sat should be a lot better if I should be aiming for a higher score contributing to maybe something in the T50-T100 range?

I got 710 In reading and writing, lost marks in the comprehension part, my score at max will move 10 points if I prepare till December

720 on the math section, due to technical issues and negligence on the algebra part.

Can anyone please comment on this?

Thank you.
