Are these Universities good enough for an International seeking low contribution? [3.78 GPA, rank 1]

My dad knows people who does Visa and all these student documents.

I think I would be fine on this process

My family never received any gifts.

Thank you.

I’m not sure what that means. Perhaps you’re referring to agents who charge a (hefty) fee to process documents for you? (I’m told it’s a scam and/or completely unnecessary, but that’s a different discussion).

Your ability to support yourself for 4 years (including paying all tuition and fees) will solely be determined by the consular officer who reviews your visa application. Either you can show proof of finances or you cannot. The people your dad knows have nothing to do with it.

40 colleges is A LOT - although it’s common for high-speed internationals to apply to 30 just to maybe get one affordable acceptance, it usually means students have been planning for about 18 months (since the end of Class X or the beginning of Class XI).

Right now it sounds as if you’re trying to juggle many balls at once and I’m worried it’s too much - too much for your stress levels, too much to do a good job, too much with school alongside it. Can someone (friend, family) help you with the organization?

Ok, so you’ve got Brown ED1 and Bowdoin ED2 if I understand correctly. These have supplemental essays.
Have the CommonApp essay and the Brown supplements reviewed by the vetted readers on this forum. Send them today or by the weekend so the readers have time to review then you have time to revise.

Your ECs are your strength which is why it’d make you a strong candidate for US colleges. (You already know what weakens your application and they’re criteria you can’t do anything about.
Trying to find something a bit different I wondered if you might be from a less well-known or less populated State, like Nicobar or Mizoram, vs. Delhi, Kolkata
)

The way you present your ECs is going to matter.
How common is it to get a support/commendation letter from the prime minister - is the PM a friend of your parents’ or an alumnus from your school, how did that come about?
(Btw if that features as a significant achievement in your application, they will check with the PM office. Obviously if the PM office writes you a third/supplemental recommendation letter certifying the impact you’ve had&potential you show and if that letter can be verified it’d help you.)

Would your HS nominate you for the Pearson at UToronto?

Reach out to your CampusFrance office. Ask what the situation would be for an Indian student who’d need to bring their French up to the level needed for universities/IUTs/prĂ©pas there. Are courses offered in France? Or does the level need to be achieved before admission and in that case what courses do they recommend in your town?

You need to take the November SAT. It appears that despite our group efforts to the contrary, you are reluctant to take the time (or don’t have the emotional bandwidth) to identify affordable and achievable backup universities for yourself. So take it as soon as possible and then move on. Perseverating about Brown’s coastal location and the benefits of the open curriculum seems to be preventing you from coming up with an affordable plan.

Take it ASAP, do your best, and then keep moving.

There are several steps

  1. ISFAA or CSS Profile: the college ascertains means of funding to decide how much financial aid the student may get or needs, if any. That’s per year and assumes the same sources of funding for the subsequent years. The college will need to see bank statements, employer statement regarding yearly income, and/or tax forms. Only the first year must be shown, the assumption being that same level of financial support will continue. At some meet-need colleges, if the income changes, there will be an adjustment. At others, there won’t be.
  2. once admission has been decided and a scholarship or financial aid package has been offered, there’s a certificate of finance the student needs to return to the college alongside the enrollment deposit. That certificate will include bank statements, employer statements, student income already earned, tax forms, official proof of a loan (not expectation of a loan not application for a loan), in addition to the financial aid package. There will also be a line for emergency funds which do not need to be in the bank yet and can be “from summer job”, “from grandparents”. Once the enrollment forms and certification of finances are recieved and checked by the college (does it all match), the I20 can be issued and the student can apply for a visa.
  3. the financial documents must be produced to obtain a visa. The Embassy will verify everything, especially if it sounds dodgy or if they’re worried something doesn’t add up. Typically, scholarships from the college itself are considered automatically legit but everything else can be verified. Visas can and are denied if it doesn’t.

I have to focus on the my applications and at the same time risk my SAT.

If I take the December I risk getting accepted for scholarships. Meanwhile I could improve on R&W and math.

I have looked into every university mentioned here.

I Don’t think November will work out

Thank you.

You need to apply to your EA/Priority colleges by their Nov1 deadline with the SAT you have.
1/Most public universities that offer merit scholarships WILL NOT consider you for these if you do not apply by their deadline.
2/Any private college with early deadline scholarships WILL NOT consider a late application for these scholarships.
3/Meet-need (whether need aware or need blind) private colleges WILL consider RD applicants for scholarships.

As a result, you need to send your application, with your scores as they are and without waiting for a November or December score, to all colleges in categories 1&2.

You can take the November or December SAT and send those scores directly to the 4 Priority/EA colleges of your choice (my recommendation would be to send those to Brown, and 3 from Southern Miss, UCentralArkansas, UMN-Morris, or Delaware State - email each and ask if they’d take an updated SAT score from the December session).
Then you’ll include the scores on your CoalitionApp for the RD applications to private universities.

Check out the deadline for the TATA scholarship (and apply Cals/information science/Ux or whatever concentration).

And have already been received. Not potential ones.

This is exactly what I’m talking about.

November won’t work out. And yet you posted asking for opinions about whether to take November or December. One more distraction for you– posting, logging on, reading even though you already know the answer.

How many backup colleges in India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or wherever have you found which could be affordable for you? This (and doing your school work, AND writing all those essays) is more important than eliciting opinions when you’ve already answered your own question.

I will PM you, so as not to detract from this thread. Thanks.

I asked them they said my 1430 would do fine for everything.

Tricky part, If suppose I apply Brown ED they will release the score mid-december. I mailed them and they said they cannot guarantee it my scores will be considered. December SAT scores will be 20 December.

not applying due to aid.

Its in january.

Exactly what I planned.

Thank you

I almost took it quite literally. I was confused.

I got 1 in my country. Doing the process for the French universities (but they have 1 year of french so it would be my least priority).

Australia and New Zealand are mostly for graduate programs as far as I checked out.

Thank you.

I would take the earlier if you need it for deadline.

If you find open publics that are affordable with a May deadline for app, it’s different. For your schools, earlier.

Yes, start prepping - even if 30 - 1 hr a day. If you know comprehension is an issue, do 10 questions a day for a week, etc.

Here’s the thing - there’s even variance in tests. My kid had a 32 on the English and then a 24. He prepped.

Some tests are just harder than others. Prepping often works but it’s not assured, etc. There’s so many variances out of your control and even if you get a 1500+, it won’t necessarily change your situation.

Look at your list - when do they require the test to be submitted to them by? What date works for that - is the easiest thing to look at.

Yes, 1430 - every college will tell you it’s fine because they don’t have stated requirements. Telling you that does not mean they will admit you - and you will still be below the statistical average - so they likely won’t.

And you’ll never know why - unfortunately.

Kids aren’t told - if you had this this and that you’d get in.

You’re just wished good luck - and they move on.

Yes, for Brown you’d need to take the November SAT and since you’ve indicated that’s not possible, I guess it means sending the December scores to whatever 4 EA/priority university will accept the updated, direct scores in December.
Perhaps SouthernMiss, UCA, UMNMorris, plus Knox? Wooster? Clark???

Do what I indicated upthread wrt France (CampusFrance).

Same thing for Germany.

Ask your school if they’d sponsor you for the Pearson at UToronto. They can only sponsor one student and if they’ve already chosen someone else or would pick s.o not applying to the US, you’re out of luck. But if they’re willing, it’d be another chance.

I didn’t see this earlier sorry.

No.

Not sure about both. Currently for ED1 have written essays for Brown and Amherst, many people here are recommending Amherst or Bowdoin ( a bit more ) for ED for me.

I am using it, its been great.

its Andhra Pradesh.

*Prime ministers office, it was an appraisal letter. There is no public data how many people got it. He is no way related.

It is already over, and my school does not know these.

I created an account and looked into courses. Everything requires 1 year of french that’s why I have a second though about it. I’ll keep it in safety.

Thank you

^ That’s why you need to email CampusFrance, to ask where that year needs to or can be completed (logically you need to have strong proficiency to take classes in French so it makes sense
)
I worded things for you already in the above post.

I am sorry.

I will shoot them a mail.

Thank you.

But you are still saying that you’d prefer Brown to Cornell because of coastal location or open curriculum. You aren’t at the point of getting to be picky on what YOU want. Right now, if it is a college in the middle of Nebraska that accepts you and you can afford, that’s where you have to go even if it has a core curriculum and requires you to live in the dorm for 4 years and has horrible food. When you get accepted to several schools, THEN you can be picky about the location and the curriculum and the food.

What you can do now is determine which school is most likely to accept you ED and give the most aid. That may be your favorite school or not, but you have to play the odds when applying ED.
