Ah I got it, I might falling into a few traps by myself.

I don’t think my stats will work at minot state, I could not find anything for int students there.

You are almost guaranteed acceptance at minot state. Your stats are well above their typical applicant. It is the closest school to meeting your financial profile. Apply.

The OP has probably gotten the message, but the likelihood of acceptance for W&L is similar to Amherst, Bowdoin and Brown. From memory @NiceUnparticularMan calculated the admission rate for international students at W&L, and as I recall it was something like 1%.

but it does not have much details for international merit/need.

You could have applied by now vs going through all the back and forth and moved to the next app.

what details are you looking for?

It has a total cost of tuition, room and board and required health insurance of 20,301 for international students. It is the very least expensive college I could find for an international student that is not going to depend on financial aid or merit money. Although it is more than you are looking for, it is the closest I have found to the “safety” that CC advises all students to have – a college that is very likely to accept you and that you can afford without depending on merit or loans.

I know that this is more than the 12k you have mentioned, but you hopefully should be able to earn the 8k difference by semester-based and summer-based work, plus a bit more for travel home, and some personal expenses. There are also merit scholarships available.

It looks like they have on-campus jobs that pay $10-$17 an hour. You can work 20 hours a week during the academic terms, and 40 during vacations and summer Of course, you have to apply for these jobs, as they are not guaranteed
but this is as close to a “safety” as I think you are going to get. Please apply.

Here is a link to their academic merit scholarship. It should provide $1,875 a year in merit. They do not list internationals under their exclusions, so my assumption is it would apply to you. It is likely a guaranteed scholarship based on stats. You will still have to work, probably also in India the summer before and maybe this coming semester at home as well to be able to afford the first year per US requirements of showing funds available, but it could still work. It might be your only affordable acceptance, which is why I think you should apply there. Academic Excellence Scholarship

I do need to say that this is by no means a “prestigious” university that you started out wanting (as do most international applicants) but it will get you out of India which you say is your main goal and a CS degree from an accredited university. It has 10 percent international students so others are there who will likely be in a similar situation to you, which is always helpful IMO.

To be granted a student visa, OP will need to demonstrate that they already have the financial means to cover the full cost of attendance. Relying on potential future employment to cover the remaining ~$8,000 is not acceptable to the State Department.

Thank you so so much. I am indebted to you. I’ll fill it out ASAP.

Also should I apply University of richmond test optional? I got 1430 and their mean is 1450.

He said he earned 4k on a YouTube channel, so maybe he can obtain the 8k by the time it’s needed? And hopefully he still has that 4k, unless it’s already included in the 12k budget.

I don’t see any other college that comes even this close to his budget without merit and I was unable to find any public universities that provided enough merit to get to his price point. So I was thinking this was the most likely public university that would work.

But although I spent time on this , I could obviously have missed something else that would work.

They are need-aware for internationals and if you are right in the middle of their SAT range I don’t think you will be a strong candidate for merit from them. And also if you are right in the middle of their range I think it is unlikely that they accept you if you are high -need.

but this is not my area of expertise. @MYOS1634 what do you think?

Oh gosh. That probably takes Washington and Lee out of the realm of possibility. Other posters had suggested it so I thought it was much more likely than that.

thanks!

At U Richmond, only 33% submitted a test. 1430 is at the 25th percentile The common data set shows 1470 as the median.

What is your major?

It’s tough - if you submit, you are not helping their stats, so you’re not getting in. If you don’t submit, it’s another knock against you as an international.

I’d likely submit -but others will have more relevant opinions. Submitting, to me, shows you’re in range and it’s another proving point as an international is why I say that.

But others may feel otherwise.

But if you’re asking about Richmond, you’re not working on MInot.

Do Minot and Southern Miss- then ask questions.

Those two need to be done - both will be quick.

Everything is out of the picture - so yes, the student should apply to W&L.

If the concern is a lot admit rate, OP shouldn’t apply to any of these except the Black Hills States and Central Arkansas of the world.
