Are these Universities good enough for an International seeking low contribution? [3.78 GPA, rank 1]

??? What is this?

I’d not give up on Florida Southern yet. They have a lot of scholarship money but you might not be eligible for it all. However, if they really like you, I can see the awards going up during the spring. It is in a small town and overall costs can be less if you can’t live in the dorms all 4 years. It has a beautiful campus and a lot of activities on or near campus. Easy to get to from Tampa or Orlando. It doesn’t have a huge number of international students so they might want to increase that number.

Just keep asking them for more money. All they can do is say no.

I got some kind of a scholarship that gives me 106k over the next 4 years, I shall apply for the prestige scholarship and throw my stone.

You got the highest merit. Congrats on that. Yes apply for the Three premier, all with one app. I don’t see anything that excludes (or includes) intl.

congrats.

Uc charleston, my bad for the typo.

9 days timeline is there.

yup it is fishing indeed. I will look intot these asap.

I can’t thank you enough.

There is no such school as UC Charleston.

Do you mean College of Charleston in South Carolina?

I would really like some words of your motivation this time! @blossom

Just a quick note: in the U.S., “UC” almost always refers to the University of California system (which has many branch locations), so readers may think you’re talking about a California school when you write “UC ____”. It’s clearer to just say “University of Charleston” instead.

So you mean University of Charleston in West Virginia. It’s over $50,000 a year. How will you pay for this?

You say they didn’t meet your price point. So
shouldn’t that be crossed OFF your list.

Your persistence is your superpower.

I think the folks who have been following your journey and trying to help would love to hear why you don’t think your educational needs will be met closer to home. I applaud your efforts to get an education overseas
. but if that turns out to be unaffordable, what then?

In the meantime, take another look at any college which has admitted you (do you have any admissions yet?) and try to set up a zoom call/video chat with a financial aid officer to review your financial situation
. the worst they can say is ‘we have no money to give you, sorry”.

Hugs.

@MYOS1634 I cannot send my free sat scores I do not know why I shall contact college board I tried everything. I am panicking so bad my deadline is soon

Ok - UC or U Charleston.

But not UC Charleston.

It sounded like U of California Charleston.

Interesting you mention the school. My first ever girlfriend parents went there and I recommended it, maybe for the first time, on another thread yesterday.

There are other UCs
.U Cincinnati, U Chicago
.have you checked either ? But not U Colorado - not a good choice and it’s CU

I am wondering if any of the more experienced posters here have have recommended language that OP should use when contacting the colleges where he got accepted but where he needs additional aid in order to attend.

Usually the advice here is for the applicant to tell the college that they are the applicant’s first choice and will definitely attend if the college can meet the applicant’s budget, but that is usually after all aid offers have come in and the applicant knows his/her first choice. So I am wondering what would be the best suggestion for the OP’s approach to these conversations so early in the process.

@Andygp i know yours ended up at Wooster. Your situation for your son was much ‘richer’ than this but you did have budget limitations. Do you have any strategies or words of wisdom to get a school to lower cost, as @MMRose is asking/hoping to assist this student in bringing an acceptance into financial reality ?

Honesty is always the best policy. ‘I know my situation is challenging, but I am truly excited about the academic and research opportunities at your college. I’d love to see if you have any ideas on how to make the finances work for me. I am a hard worker but of course would not want to violate the terms of my student visa in order to earn more money. Can I set up a call with you to review possible options?”

Maybe the answer is “no call, no money. Thanks for your interest”. Or maybe the answer is “we have a merit scholarship for an International Student who wants to major in Development Economics and then go back to his/her home country after graduation and work in the field with either an NGO or government. Might this interest you?”

Worth the ask, no?
