Are you excited about the royal wedding?

I don’t believe the story. The source is “In Touch Weekly” - one of the raggiest of the rags.

I don’t believe it either, and I hope that it’s not true. But it brings up a question: if they were infertile, and adopted, would the child be an heir to the throne?

Just to clarify, I don’t believe it either.

NYMom, I bet an adopted child wouldn’t be an heir, but I really have no idea.

Given all the medical advances these days, there are lots of ways to have kids. IVF, surrogate mothers, egg donors, etc. Would the kid be heir under some of these circumstances? (I sure hope the rumor is false and really hope it didn’t come from Camilla).

In case anyone missed this tidbit:

What a load of BS. Barring unusual circumstances (like not having a uterus), the only way for a woman to know she is infertile is to try to get pregnant. There’s no way Kate’s been trying.

Some people thought that hat looked like a woman’s reproductive system. Maybe she should have given it to Kate for good luck? ;)

I believe that under British law, the answer is no. The child must be related by blood.

Back from the honeymoon, I had hoped to see Kate putting a bit of weight back on. But in her photos with the Obamas, she looks thinner than ever. :(

She is not a one hat wonder ;)

Henry VIII had a son out of wedlock. He acknowledged paternity, but the child was still not heir to the throne. Adoption is a legal action, and I seriously doubt an adoption into the royal family would ever be allowed. It kind of takes away from the whole concept of a royal family, doesn’t it?

I’ve always liked the Brits for this - that they and a very few of the other countries allow a woman to inherit a title. I believe there are certain other titles (dukedoms, baronies, etc.) in England which can be inherited by a woman. Russia did also. But France and Spain did not allow a woman to inherit a title in her own right. Chalk up one for the pommies!

I don’t see any reason why they couldn’t adopt. The child simply wouldn’t be in line for the throne – which could be seen as an advantage. The only loser would be Harry, whose chances of someday having to be king would go up rather dramatically.

OK, but what would they inherit? If not the throne, then what? The British have long since let go of the medieval concept that the king owns personally what the family “owns”. They can’t sell Windsor Castle or Buck House. Much of the money they have that doesn’t belong to the State, comes from, or is subsidized by, taxes. Why would the people want their taxes to go to someone who is not blood related? That’s the whole, well, fiction, of royalty. If you can be adopted into the royal family, then it undermines the entire institution.

^Then why is it okay to marry into it?

Not entirely. The royal family (currently in the person of Prince Charles - who is Duke of Cornwall) owns the Duchy of Cornwall as personal property. In addition to the Civil List salary the taxpayers give him, Charles gets a lot of money from the farms and other businesses owned by the Duchy. They may personally own other estates as well that I’m not aware of. The Duchy of Cornwall and attendant title will likely pass to William when Charles finally becomes king.

Is anyone into the royal wedding of Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock? Apparently, there is much drama surrounding it with Charlene attempting to escape the country and the Mother of one of Albert’s love children showing up just a few days before the wedding.

He is the very definition of bad husband material.

From the link posted above… oh dear…

Loving all of Kate’s Canadian outfits so far… So smart to wear native designers and wear things more than once. Loved her little red hat today! Bet they were roasting in the 90 degree heat though.

I agree - the Monaco kiss was beyond awkward!
