Are you raedy for the storm?

I assume she has a 2-car garage and 3 cars. One of them has to get out of the driveway in order to plow it.

We often have the problem that one of us gets stuck at the bottom of the driveway during a big storm. We can just manage to jam the car in off the street. When the plow guy gets here, we have to go out and lurk in the vicinity until we can get up the driveway.

Our plow gal just came for the second time. When I went out to visit the chickens a while ago I stepped off a plowed up snowbank into waist-high snow. While carrying a bucket of water. That was fun. I thought I was going to be stuck for a minute.

There is a parking ban on the street where we have a commercial / residential property. We had to let the tenants know to get their cars out of there. Although the snow didn’t happen so much here, the flooding was getting rather intense when we drove in this afternoon during high tide. We thought it was too far north to still affect us here in southern NJ

Ah, thanks! I know when I visited New Orleans, pre-Katrina, people had to move their cars to higher ground during ORDINARY rains to avoid having them get flooded. Yes, there are many of us with more cars than fit easily in the carport/garage or other handy space off the street.

So it looks like Nantucket really got blasted.

Police came by and threatened to tow if people didn’t move cars this morning. A lot of grumbling, but it is SO nice to have the street really clear, curb to curb, instead of those snow nests marked with garbage cans and cones for the next three weeks!

Yes, our private road is narrow, so we can’t stick a car out on the street. Our driveway will be blocked with snow if the plow truck can’t make it all the way in because of a parked car.

@Consolation, did you see that the school district canceled tomorrow’s classes already? I can’t remember school ever closing two days in a row - maybe during the ice storm? I’m glad our new superintendent is more decisive and doesn’t wait until 6 am to cancel school for the day. My daughter is thrilled - “It’s like a vacation!” she shouted as she jumped up and down. And she’s 16! Cute.

My texts to D1 this morning.

Me: Are you going to work today?
D1: No, why bother when the subway isn’t running.
Me: Sorry to tell you, but the subway will start running around 9.
D1: You are kidding. How do you know.
Me: on the news.
D1: hope boss isn’t watching the same news.

ML…it’s only a vacation now. Remind her of that in June when she wishes school was over!

There are many cancellations already here in CT, in the eastern parts of the state. And a number of delayed openings as well. The temps are going way down too.

And there is a small chance of snow for Friday morning too.

Our schools pulled the trigger way to early for canceling school. They could have gone with no problems at all…and if it happens again, could change graduation date.

S1 and FDIL, who just moved to CA from Boston, wish they were still in NE for this storm. They saw Jim Cantore and Al Roker in Boston Common during the 2013 blizzard.

@MaineLonghorn No, I no longer pay much attention to school closings, but tomorrow is garbage day for us! I’m wondering if there will be pickup? Somehow I doubt it. I’m going to have to check out the town website and see what they say. I don’t even know if they delivered mail today. My excursion out to the chicken house was bad enough: I came back literally covered with snow from head to foot.

@Consolation, I saw a note on the banner at the bottom of the TV screen that said no US mail was delivered today (don’t know how wide an area that applied to). I know Tuesday’s trash pickup is going to be Saturday, but I haven’t heard about tomorrow’s.

@Consolation, forgive me if these are silly questions, but are chicken coops warmed and if not, how does the water not freeze?

No mail here in CT.

Still snowing moderately here in coastal Massachusetts. Still pretty windy too but not like it was last night. We have three foot drifts in places so I’m guessing we got two feet of snow. Much of my town is flooded with breaks in the sea walls, etc. No school tomorrow and I won’t be surprised if that is extended to Thursday.

Hope the clearing goes well, EPTR. That is a lot of snow!

@GA2012MOM You have to have some kind of heater for the water. There are various kinds, most of which involve some kind of heat tape with a thermostat. Right now, I have what is essentially an oversized plastic dog dish with the heat thing built into the base.

My husband has been outside since 5 am trying to dig us out so we can go to work. First plow just came up the road (good timing) so when he finishes in the next half hour, we’ll be good to go. What a mess. Hope the roads aren’t too bad, our places of work are only accessible by small side roads. Did I hear more snow on Saturday?

Thinking of all of you in New England digging out. You can not believe all the NJ and Philly people complaining about the inaccurate weather forcast. Geesh, after suffering through Sandy, ya’ would think everyone down here would be relieved not to be dealing with JuNo !

Well…here in CT, chance of snow Friday morning…but only a small chance. Then a chance of snow again on Monday. I think they will wait until the night before to tell what that chance really is.

NEPats…are your roads open? Don’t some states still have travel bans in place so the crews can work?
