I’ve been hearing there will be more snow on Friday in the Boston area, but it’s not expected to be much, just a couple of inches. However, I’ve just seen a report that we might get more significant snow on late Sunday-early Monday.
Here it is. Travel ban has been lifted…but folks are encouraged to stay off the roads unless necessary.
I’m with you SouthJerseyChessMom, I am not disappointed that we don’t have tons of snow and closed roads one bit
NEPatsGirl, are you on the Cape ? The pictures my family are sending me are crazy ! I just read the town of Barnstable won’t have their secondary roads plowed until tonight
Yep, another snow event early next week. I could have predicted this as I’m flying to Florida Tuesday morning.
Everyone stay safe and warm.
I just saw 8-12 inches for Monday, but was happy to see that the Thurs night/Fri morning prediction seems to have declined a bit. On a positive note, the days are getting longer. However, the low temps will keep this snow with us for the foreseeable future.
I will be driving to Boston today to see my mom in the hospital. I will report back on the road conditions. Where I am there are helicopters assessing damage, etc. In a town near me, I heard that houses have fallen into the ocean. Yikes.
Be safe. Marshfield, MA looks like it got slammed.
We got 20 inches here. DH cleared the driveway and front walk with the snowblower and I cleared the front steps and a path to the woods for the dog - who is not convinced he likes the spot I picked for him to use! The forecast seems to be for some snow on Friday when I will be driving to Providence and back to bring DD to her doctor’s appointment - ugh! Then more Sunday night to Monday - double ugh! I’m thinking I should be skipping the trip to the cape for agility class with the dog and shoveling the 3 foot drifts off the deck - which will involve snowshoeing around to get there. I know I’ll be too exhausted after to do the drive and agility runs! Only thing keeping me going is I’ve planned a short vacation in Bermuda with DD over her spring break and I keep seeing pictures online of lovely pink beaches and beautiful water!
In areas around Boston that didn’t experience flooding the roads are clear. Keeping people off them yesterday made a big difference.
@ thumper1 and lje62 ~ Yes, I am on the Cape and there is still a travel ban. Many secondary roads are not plowed at all, at present the Cape Cod Hospital is unreachable because of disabled cars. It is a nightmare here. I did not go to work yesterday but I am in healthcare and while one position is considered non-essential, the other is not (yes, I work two positions lol). The fact that some people have been here for nearly 40 hours, motivated me to come in and relieve them. My husband works on the same road, just 1/8 mile or so before my facility so we came in together. I didn’t really want to travel by myself and he needed to dig his business out. The roads getting here turned out to be better than we thought they would be but we are still working with a skeleton crew and those that have been here are exhausted.
My S works at MGH in Boston. He said that it took him about 40 minutes on the Red Line today rather than the usual 25, but heard some horror stories about the Green Line with folks waiting outside for half an hour for a train. He said that unless it’s a major artery/street, the plowing is just not there yet.
That’s what really bothers me…that it will stay below freezing for the foreseeable future, so this snow will stick around for awhile. Not looking forward to our new pattern of snow every few days.
What could be worse is if the Monday precipitation arrives as rain. We could end up with significant flooding.
Followed by ice.
Hoping the Monday storm goes out to sea…far out to sea!
^ Me, too!
At least Saturday looks good. We have to go down to Very Happy’s neck of the woods for my great nephew’s 1st birthday.
27 inches in downtown Portland - that has to be in the top five snowstorms in recorded history. #1 was the 31 inches in 2013.
I think we got at least that much a few miles north of Portland. Shoveling out the path to our dog’s run took three of us quite awhile to do! It is absolutely beautiful, so I am not complaining.
@MaineLonghorn, according to weather.com we are supposed to get another 6-12 inches on Friday and again on Monday. I had better go out and try to blast a way through the 6 ft high snow mountain that is blocking access to my back yard and the chicken house NOW!
@Consolation, for sure! We had a big drift right outside our door, also. Thank goodness for a strong, 22-year-old young man to help with shoveling! He never stopped. I had to take frequent breaks.
What a great winter!
