I’m so glad I got one of these for Xmas - portable phone charger. Is electric goes out, it’s no fun sitting in car waiting for phone to charge. I don’t know that much about them, but this will charge my phone twice.

Be careful with lighting a fire if your power goes out. After one heavy snowstorm, we had 2’ or so of snow on our roof and it took a few scary, smoky, minutes before the chimney warmed up enough for the smoke to go out the top! After that, I would have a fire slowly burning during a storm so that the chimney would stay warm enough to not get a tophat of snow on it.
H and I are in Florida , our flight back to DC tomorrow has already been cancelled. We’ll be fine, obviously, but we have one child in NYC and one at school in coastal Maine. Just hoping power doesn’t go out.

Here in south central PA, it’s a bust. I made the mistake of getting caught up in several social media forecasters who have a huge loyal following. They sound the alarm much earlier than TV stations, and then their followers ask the TV meteorologists why they aren’t hyping it. Soon they too join the band wagon because it’s all about ratings.
There’s one forecaster in my area who is almost always right, but he’s not on TV. I finally did a Google search and found his website. What a breath of fresh air to read a forecast without hype! Apparently followers were giving him a hard time last night because he had a few defensive posts regarding his low snow accumulations forecast, but upon awakening this morning, he was vindicated!
So now I believe him when he says we will only get 1-3" more tonight.
In Fairfield county, too, and made sure last night we were set for a two day snow-in. Installing a generator a few years ago was one of the best decisions we ever made. Was also in Boston for the blizzard of '78. Cross country skied on Commonwealth Avenue. What a blast!
I never watch TV weather (or news)–too much hype. I just check weather.com and/or NOAA.
My D and her H who were supposed to fly into Newark tomorrow are rescheduled for Thursday. Hope the planes are lined up right so that goes through. Meanwhile, two extra days on the beach in FL. Life is hard!
If anyone has flight out on Wed, you may want to change the flight now before they are all booked off. If your flight should get cancelled then you would be booked at a next available flight, which could be a week out.
I made an appointment with a medical specialist from a prominent hospital. She has limited office hours in the facility by my home. I made the appointment in August. Guess when the appointment is? That’s right, tomorrow morning. I’m sure it’ll be cancelled. Who knows when I’ll be able to reschedule.
The Blizzard of 78 in Boston is the benchmark that I measure all other storms against. I’ve never seen such snow. I was also one of those folks skiing down Comm Ave. H (didn’t know him at the time) had to abandon his car on 128. Luckily he could walk the mile or so home. I think his car was buried for about a week. I remember Mike Dukakis in his blue sweater imploring people not to go out of the house. Stay safe everyone.
Another Blizzard of ‘78 survivor although I was just a junior in high school. I remember walking through the storm to get to a friends’ house (they had better snacks lol). My Dad went up the 128 area to plow and rescue people who were stranded. He was gone for nearly a week if I remember correctly. The worst snow I remember since then and I actually think it was more than that here on the Cape, was 3 feet dumped here about 10 years ago. I didn’t get out of my road until the front end loaders finally arrived 5 days later. It started snowing here about an hour ago and its starting to come down pretty good. The original forecast was for it to start around dinnertime so we’re a few hours ahead of schedule.
I feel bad for everyone whose plans are getting ruined by the storm.
But as for myself, I am actually really excited for it. Living in New York, we usually don’t get a lot of snow, especially as compared to when I lived in MA and NH, and I definitely miss it. I have enough food for all my animals, and my Kindle is charged up. Hopefully will be going sledding tomorrow, if work is cancelled!
No snow west of Boston yet but I’m watching the Governor’s press conference. They’re taking this storm very, very seriously. Just made a pot of chili and a pan of corn bread and set out ingredients for cookies. Bought hotdogs and the fixings for s’mores just in case we lose power. If we don’t our kids will have fun roasting them on the fire anyway.
A year or so ago, we had a big storm (ice) in Dallas. We knew it was coming, so I was all stocked up for baking cookies, crock pot cooking, watching movies, etc. It was fun for a few hours, until we lost power. Two days later, with our house at 49 degrees inside, I was definitely sick of the whole thing. It really hurt that we could see the houses across the golf course never lost power. They were baking cookies, eating yummy crock pot meals, watching movies, etc. Grrr…
I hope you all stay safe, have plenty of electricity, and are able to actually enjoy this a little bit.
After the first day without power, everything in the house is so cold. Get a plate out of the cabinet? Cold. Get a sweater out of the closet? Cold. The only thing I liked was making blackout pizza on our outdoor grill, followed by slightly smoky brownies. This was 2010 and we were without power for 3 or 4 days.
Here in Ohio we got about 3 inches, they canceled school. I shoveled the sidewalk and the bit left melted in about 5 minutes because it is now warm and sunny. Hope your snowmageddon goes as well as ours did!
I can live with the snow. I am just hoping that no power outage occurs. Husband home early from work and son on his way. Well stocked with food. Ready to enjoy some hometime.
