Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!

Well, college games are so much fun, regardless of the outcome. I actually prefer the energy of a college game to that of the pros.

And speaking of college games, I watched underdog Miami beat Florida, and underdog (under dawg?) Georgia pull it off against South Carolina. Those games were so exciting and fun to watch. What a great day for college ball.

Shellfell–I am luckily one of those rare Giants/Mets fans. So football sustains me through the horrors of the baseball season.

This weekend, I get my jollies from knowing that when the Mets keep losing to the Indians, at least that means the Yankees are less likely to get a wildcard spot. Ya gotta find sustenance where you can, right?

My first time at Ryan Field. Didn’t know that alcohol is prohibited in the stadium. What a difference!

So, Jim Cornelison, the guy who sings the National Anthem and O’ Canada at Chicago Blackhawks games was there to sing the National Anthem. He completely flubbed up the verses!!! I couldn’t believe it.

I may be mistaken, but it seems like if you are an avid Yankees fan, you are likely a Giants fan. If you are an avid Mets fan, you are likely a Jets fan. And vice versa.

Is this correct? If so, why?

Is it time for the Super Bowl yet? I, for one, can’t wait for football season to END.

Razor…
Some of it goes back to geography. If you lived in Manhattan and North/West (NJ, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, etc) you were a Yankees/Giants fan. The Giants played in YAnkee stadium until the early 70s. If you lived in SI/Brooklyn/Queens, you went to see the Mets/Jets play at Shea. Even though the gap is getting smaller due to the Giants and Jets moving to the Meadowlands, the respective fanbases still continue to the generations passing down to the next.

Anybody watching ND vs Michigan? Why does college football, or any network broadcasting feel the need to marry-up with a Marshall Mathers in a promotional fashion?
Eminem’s closing line: “I’m really uncomfortable right now.”
So were 17 million viewers*were thinking “what”?

I don’t understand why the Eminem thing is so surprising. He is socially awkward. He is in every interview. I felt bad for the guy.

I wanted to see ND get crushed. I don’t say this as a Michigan fan- I say this as someone who just wants to see ND lose. I don’t care who beats them as long as they do :)

author, that’s interesting. It’s actually pretty logical after all.

^that makes sense, but in my case, my dad was basically an old school guy (NFC, NL). He was a Giants/Giants fan, so when the baseball Giants left, he had no NL team to root for till the Mets started. No way he’d switch to Yankees.

My H was also always a G/M fan. Mets cuz his dad was from Pittsburgh so they’re NL people. And they moved to NJ in the early 60s so became Giants fans at the time (no Jets yet.)

My dad was Giants (football) and Dodgers. We all became Giants/Mets fans.

Mike Leach’s team is gonna’ be dangerous if ever gets himself a quarterback.

Team passing totals yesterday:

Air Force (vs. Utah State): 108 yards

Army (vs. Ball State): 76 yards

Navy (vs. Indiana): 71 yards (with 444 on the ground)

USC: 54 yards

Do we hear Al Davis laughing in the crypt?

Who will hear more noise from the alumni…Lane Kiffen or Mack Brown?

Here we go Huskies, here we go!
Wazzu upsets So. Cal!! Go Cougs!!!
J-E-T-S, mess mess mess!
And in a related development, Nike University…er…I mean UOregon (the Quacks) pummeled UVA yesterday. No college squad can beat a pro team financed by Phil Knight.

That about covers it for me.

Steve Ross just gave Michigan $200 million.

Every thread needs a Debbie Downer, I guess. ;)

Brent Musberger needs to be put out to pasture. He lost the zip on his delivery about 20 years ago.

Peyton scored 63.5 points in my fantasy league… there are weeks some entire teams don’t score that much. Really glad I’m not playing that guy this week.

^My Son-in-law has Peyton and my S has Welker. They were happy campers Thursday night.

Re: Mets/Jets or Yankees/Giants

My father was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan, so his only option in NY eventually became the Mets (Yankees were out of the question). I also grew up in Queens, so Mets and Jets were natural for me.

S2, who grew up in CT, is a Yankees/Giants fan. In CT, you’re either a Patriots fan (Boo) or a Giants fan. Not too many native Jets fans.

DH is a diehard Yankees fan (altho he won’t watch with ARod in the line-up). His father was a Giants fan, but DH grew up on LI so he watched both Jets and Giants.

S1 is the true CT hybrid. He’s a Red Sox fan (don’t ask) and a Giants fan. He lives in Boston and actually risks wearing a Giants jersey on Sundays.

^That sure is risky! I live half the time in S. Jersey now, and do enjoy wearing my Superbowl champs T-shirts in Eagle territory!

Don’t wear my Mets hats down here too much, though at least this year the Phillies are sharing the misery.

Our weird hybrid is that even though my family and H’s were Rangers fans, we switched when kids were babies to Devils since we lived so close and can actually get tickets, so our kids are rabid Devils fans–which has worked out well for them.

D married a Mets/Giants/Rangers fan, so they’re united for 2 out of 3. lol.

And he’s a Rutgers grad, married now into a Michigan family, so we will enjoy lots of Big Ten competition in the future.

Those of us who root for Rutgers hope it is a competition.

Tom–:). Those of us who root for Michigan worry about being embarrassed in enemy territory. Seriously, it should be fun, and it will be cool to have Mich games here in NJ.
