Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!

xiggi- how did this go over?

[Culture Change at Texas - Barking Carnival](<a href=“Culture Change at Texas - Barking Carnival”>Culture Change at Texas - Barking Carnival)

No guns? In Texas?? WHAATTTT

No guns as in no guns at home, hunting, on campus? Kind of vague.

I’m getting embarrassed for my beloved state.

Short answer … I don’t know.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and at this time, all one can do is wait. While not thrilled about the choice of Strong, all a supporter can do is hope to be wrong. The strong language might work, or it might, as it is often the case, backfire. It is a lot harder to act than to get a strong memo out. It is a lot easier to write a memo about the housing changes in Austin for football players than it will be to convince the star players to come to a “new” Austin … or decide that that the grass is a lot greener a bit South of Austin or to the East. Just think how those rules would have pleased Mr. Manziel? :)

We’ll see!

As Texas alum, I’m disgusted that a lot of this stuff had to be said. I’d heard about the arrogance of the players and how they were treated with kid gloves, etc.

I think this is great. It’s not like these players had been performing up to the level where even the most rabid of fans could have condoned this kind of coddling.

When I went to Texas, all the players lived at Jester Hall. I never knew they had moved to a different model of living off campus. What genius approved that?

These new rules say a lot about what the current culture was at the school. Shame on Mack Brown and Deloss Dodds for letting it get to this point.

[Weapons on Campus, The University of Texas at Austin Police Department (UTPD)](<a href=“Weapons on Campus | UT Police Department”>Weapons on Campus | UT Police Department) indicates that firearms and some other weapons are already prohibited on the University of Texas campus (though presumably a student living off-campus can have otherwise-legal firearms there, just not bring them to campus).

The list explicitly includes some subsets of “firearms”, such as “machine guns” and “short-barreled firearms”, as if the catch-all term “firearms” at the top of the list is not enough to get some people to understand.

I agree with Nrdbs. It’s embarrassing what some of these kids have gotten away with. I’d like to see more Hook 'Em and less Book 'em. Just like raising kids, it’s easier to start off strict and loosen up than start out lenient and then try to regain control.

On the subject of athletes and guns, did you see that Miami QB and wife left an actual AR-15 in a bag on the rear seat of a rental car? The next renter found it. Neat photo of it in news.

The story says Tannehill and wife had the car for 2 hours and returned it. That would explain the gun better: they were going to use it but only had the car for a short time, maybe because they didn’t like that model, etc.

Strong was at UF when Urban had to add the no weapon to his team’s core values.

Vandy hired Stanford’s Derek Mason, chosen over Brian Schottenheimer.

That’s a good choice. He came up with the game plans that beat Oregon, and he knows how to work with a recruiting pool of smart kids.

I saw a tweet from someone today that said the Seahawks paid Harvin something like $395,000 per play this season.

Of course, if (all) colleges required their football players and other athletes to meet their regular admission standards (with sports as an extracurricular rather than a giant hook), that might put the “student” back into “student-athlete”, as well as send the appropriate incentives to high school athletes.

We are thrilled with Derek Mason. Huge upgrade for Vanderbilt. His press conference today was terrific. Go Dores!

Too bad Vandy had to settle for their second choice.

Don’t fall in love with this guy. He will walk away in two or three years for something bigger and better. They always do.

This was Vandy’s first choice since the minute the AD figured out Jimmy was bolting. He was first choice on all the forums, too, with Clemson’s Morris right behind.

Not according to a report on CBS:

That was a rumor, but it is not correct. No other offers were made. There were a lot of rumors flying around, but this one was absolutely not correct. Hamilton’s name was thrown around, and he was on the list, but Mason was the top candidate. I promise you that my information is accurate here. The deal with Mason was pretty much done Thursday night, but the details were being worked out on Friday and the news broke unofficially mid-Friday morning and officially Friday afternoon about Mason.

If you are going to the game tomorrow, heres how to yell louder.

Scream from your stomach & not your throat.

Bring earplugs. They sell them at concerts but I dont know if they sell them at sporting events.

Broncos look pretty good. Pats not so good. Time keeps ticking against the Pats.

Great to see that the broncos are going to the Super Bowl.

I’m a Peyton Manning fan, so as far as I’m concerned, the good guys won. ;)

Bet that was sweet for Wes Welker.
