Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!

The Bart Scott interview from a few seasons ago still gets me.

Sorry, never heard of it.

Google it. I am an old guy and even I heard about it.

I remember Ali abusing Frazier saying something to the effect “Look at me, I am pretty and you are ugly” or an actually quote
“It will be a Killa and a Thrilla and a Chilla when I get The Gorilla in Manila.” … Stuff like that just seemed to increase the interest in the fight for many, many fans. Ali not only promoted himself but also the fights by trash talking…So times must have changed that people see Sherman as such a BAD guy.

If the worst indiscretion Richard Sherman from Compton commits is upsetting certain milquetoast fans, then he can honestly say he has made it.

As for Joe Frazier, he despised Ali and never forgave him for calling him an Uncle Tom.

Nah. I’ve lived this long without it, I guess I’ll survive.

Back to football…

I thought the Seahawks quarterback had some incredible ability with regard to the long ball. Did he have a lot of those big plays this season? He had some beautiful throws…

Now we learn that it was a “hell of a game” and Mr.Crabtree was most gracious in defeat. How could anyone root for a team that is full of jerks like Sherman? :p

^^^Is the team actually “full of jerks”? Or is this just one isolated incident regarding one player?

The Bart Scott rant was all about how the team had been disrespected by the media. He wasn’t woofing about being the greatest.

In other news, to the surprise of no one, the Raiders are involved in another lawsuit - only this time they are on the receiving end. They are being sued by their cheerleaders:

<a href=“Oakland Raiders sued by Raiderettes cheerleaders – The Mercury News”>Oakland Raiders sued by Raiderettes cheerleaders – The Mercury News;

At NFL stadia the concession stands are manned by maybe 95% volunteers. The people behind the stands working usually are getting no pay…the charity, church, or youth group, etc. they are associated with gets a small percentage of the sales made at the stand during games. Few concession stand workers are paid…just the supervisors get paid by concession operator company.

^ I worked for the concessions company at a MLB stadium when I was a kid.

About half the concession stands were paid workers, about half were non-profit groups.

The non-profits got paid more than a “small percentage” of sales at this stadium… it was in the 15-20% range. The amount of money brought in for the non-profit was far more than the workers would have been paid had they been employees working for minimum wage.

10 workers could bring in a thousand dollars or more (this is late 70’s) for 4 hours of work if they got a good stand.

Volunteers doing a fundraiser for a charity or other non-profit have no expectation of getting paid for their labor. It’s not the same thing as cheerleaders who are clearly working for the team.

At Tampa Bucs games the nonprofit groups get about 2% of till.

2% isn’t much… we had a “slop” factor of 2%, where as long as the non-profit’s cash turn-in was within 2% of what the product audit said it should be, mgmt was happy.

We weren’t selling $10 beers and $8 hot dogs back then though… how much can the NP make for working a stand at a game in dollar terms?

I got sucked into working in the concessions for a high school group trying to raise money…it was a lousy experience and we didn’t make enough money to justify doing it. By the time the volunteers paid for gas getting to stadium and spending about 5 hours there each game… it made more sense for the 20 volunteers to each make a cash donation rather than work the stand. We had to get there before games to set up and after games we had to clean the place up spotless…cleaner than most everyone’s own home kitchens. It didn’t pay for our group…the concession company benefited the most with the arrangement.

HuskyDad

Since the NFL released the tale of the tape showing Sherman sportsmanship, I wonder if critics will see things differently. But maybe his dreads or raising his voice had something else to do with it.

Part of me suspects Manning will throw on Sherman as many times as he can just to show Sherman isn’t the best CB in the league.

That would be entertaining indeed. GO HAWKS!!

^^Honestly, I don’t think Peyton could care less about showing anyone in particular to be less than the best at any specific position. He will just want to win. Whatever he has to do to win the game, he will do, but targeting a particular player to make a point about his being the best or not? No. I don’t see it. I doubt he has given this “controversy” even a millisecond of thought.

Peyton could be too busy dropping f bombs on his own teammates. He’s very “colorful” in his own way.

In cold weather with the wind against him the Seahawks will play the hash and in. Manning will have to beat them out and long. Denver better be able to run.
