In a game as lopsided as 43-8, it’s hard to make a case it is entirely because Denver blew the game. Denver made plenty of mistakes, but many were forced by Seattle, and Seattle was able to capitalize on many of them.
The SB win was a legit win. Seattle put a pretty good smackdown on Denver.
The GB game is another story, and I think you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who is not a biased Seattle fan who thinks Seattle “won” that game as opposed to GB “losing” it. So many critical mistakes by GB, horrible play be Seattle for the first 55 minutes… Sure, Seattle gets points for not giving up and playing hard to the end, but they got the game handed to them on a silver platter.
Sometimes you get a win like that, and you thank the football gods for smiling on you, and you move on to the next game.
As someone who has only paid limited attention to football – as in Seattle some of last season and this season – it was not such a surprise. This is what the Hawks do, from what I’ve seen. It often comes together late in the game. Again, somebody else can give you stats on whether or not my observation is accurate. Casual observer.
The Seattle offense sputtered for sure in the GB game but given the gifted time of possession and crazy field position GB had very little to show for it. LOB Seattle had 3 goal line stands and something other than just cowardice made GB decide to take the points and not challenge the D one more time. But, I guess if people want to be lulled into complacency that’s OK.
Costco outside of Seattle was a zoo late this afternoon stocking up on beer and munchies. The man behind me in line had only two big bottles of Whiskey and a giant bottle of Ibuprofin. He said that he was prepared for any outcome.
I’m watching with a group where the majority knows very little about football, as in “what does 1st and 10 mean?” This could be a mistake, but at least they’ll cheer when I do.
I am surprised that Bobby Wagner got a vote but also surprised that ESPN commenters take the “who the heck is he and what clown voted for him?” attitude. He is only the middle linebacker and signal caller on one of the most prolific defenses in NFL history. No I don’t think he should have won the MVP but he isn’t exactly chopped live either. I hope he goes out and has an epic day tomorrow so people will at least know who he is when they read the vote tally.
Yep - Romo had a great season and against the odds with his injury. He really powered through.
The award is most valuable not best. Of course who can say but the Wagner voter was likely looking at the record after he returned from his injury. He left the game in the 2nd quarter of the loss to Dallas. They ended up losing that game and 2 more while he was out. They went 6-0 after he came back. There was all kind of other stuff going on injury wise that has already been brought up (Unger for example and the Percy debacle) but their difficulty up the middle of the field mid season can be pretty much pinned on Wagner being out. Still an odd choice but not bat crap crazy exactly.
Any other possible MVP candidate’s teams stopped playing before Rodgers’ team was done. The MVP is often not either Super Bowl team. But someone from one of those teams will get SB MVP (which Aaron has gotten before, as well). Woohoo Aaron Rodgers!
