I’m so sad Penn St lost 
I’m hoarse from yelling at the tv during the Rose Bowl. A game doesn’t get much more exciting than a 46 yd field goal in the last second of play.
Was happy to see USC beat Penn State. Especially in that fashion.
I wish they both could’ve lost.

lol… my son and I were saying the same thing, but if anyone had to win we both preferred USC wins it, even though we permanently put USC on our black list for producing Mark Sanchez (who played for Dallas this past weekend and true to form, threw 2 picks).
Yes on Mark Sanchez. Of course, my favorite Rose Bowl was 2006, when UT’s Vince Young beat USC’s Matt Leinart.
I sent my then 9-year-old son to bed for that 2006 Rose Bowl when USC went up two scores because he had school the next day.

Oh, @Dave_N ! I had a Texas friend in California who kept calling me during the game freaking out. I told her that I’d been watching this team all season and that VY would pull this out, don’t worry. I was so glad to be right. Phew. We took the boys to the local Academy to get the natl championship T-shirts and then went to the Drag to see the Tower. So much fun. And thankfully they weren’t the only ones who were tired the next day at school; we saw two of their teachers in line at Academy!
Rose Bowl was a great game this year. We had lots of friends there cheering on USC and we were glad they pulled it off at the last seconds!
Did I read somewhere that USC’s QB threw more yards in the 2017 Ros Bowl than Vince Young did in setting the previous Rose Bowl record? I may have misread.
But that kid is 19. 19! Must have been born with the proverbial ice water in the veins.
The current coach seems so down to earth, with no overbearing arrogance. What a nice relief from the last two FT coaches. I read he spends time with the practice team too, on the philosophy that they deserve attention for their love of the game, even if they never play a game. Nice attitude. About time.
@musicprnt mentioned that if an athlete is injured schools revoke their scholarships, amd that may be true at many universities. One thing that’s good about USC, and probably some other schools also, is that once you start there, your scholarship is irrevocable, regardless of injury, etc. I saw this when there was a big story about some athlete who was injured at the very beginning of his season, and the LA Times mentioned that his free ride wouldn’t be rescinded because USC didn’t do that.

That is nice that they do that, there have been a number of news and magazine articles about programs revoking scholarships because of serious injury and the players ending up having to pay their medical costs as well. I suspect there are other programs that do what you say, that let the kid finish college…does USC flip the scholarship to be a full ride academic one, @hayden? Given the limits on athletic scholarships (for FBS teams, it is 80 some odd), would the scholarship after they got injured be counted by the NCAA?
So the jets did the inevitable, they fired a lot of the coaches (Gailey claimed he ‘retired’, claiming he planned to all along, when a couple of weeks ago when asked said he would like to come back…). Amazingly, they didn’t fire the special teams coach, where the Jets really underperformed. Interesting they didn’t fire the DC, I guess Bowles realized that would look really, really bad, given that he does the defensive play calling (which is a knock on him as a coach, I don’t think head coaches should be calling the O or the D, Evil One in NE figured that out, while he works on the game plan with both coaches, they do the play calling)
The PAC 12 has adopted the 4 year scholarship rule, so athletes are now getting 4 year scholarships, and can finish if they play at least 2 years. There are a million exceptions, of course. The NCAA can grant another scholarship if players are hurt or permanently unable to play. There was a DU Hockey player who was found to have a heart condition during his first few weeks of play. DU said he could keep his scholarship and the NCAA granted DU another scholarship for those 4 years (the guy became a coach).
Some coaches play games with the scholarships, but most allow an injured player to remain with the team on scholarship.
Hmmm. I must have missed something, @musicprnt. Which was the area where the Jets DIDN’T underperform?
Local TV doesn’t carry the Jets where we live now, so I’m trying to figure out if I can follow their games by getting some kind of Internet subscription service. I must be masochistic.
Did you check the Comedy Central listings?
You can get the Red Zone, and it will give you bits of the Jets games. That may be all you need to realize you don’t actually want to watch the entire game.
