I’m talking about history in the past few years with this quarterback who often looks really good until he doesn’t

^^^You mean recent history, then. That would be accurate.

BB Patriots team hadn’t given up 300-plus yards in a first half ever.

I can think of a number of years lately where I’ve gone into a season thinking that the Pats were pretty much done, then some combination of the brilliance of Brady & Belichek, the emergence of the tight ends, and mostly the enduring and reliable mediocrity of the AFC East, they still manage to win 12 games a year. If this is the end, isn’t it miracle it took this long. Do you see a team in that division taking it away from them no matter how bad they are? Funny part about this is we don’t get to hear Bill Simmons whine about it for another two weeks.
As far as the NFC East goes, I don’t know. The teams all have to play the NFC West. Who can see any of them beating Seattle? Maybe the Giants can beat San Francisco since they get them at MetLife. Any one want to pick how the Eagles and Cowboys will match up with Arizona?

and
Would you have ever thought in your lifetime, we would see Rutgers giving points to Michigan?
Namath has a 10 am presser at the Hyatt to discuss his brain damage…

I think that’s arguable, but it takes too long :). In any case, thats why we have playoffs (well, that and tv revenue)

Does anything matter in the scheme of things except the last few years? Winning tradition is nice but if you have any of the same players and coaching staff that you’ve had then certainly that is more important. With a player as critical as the QB their history over the arc of each season, durability and mental make up is even more important. Look at Kaepernick, for example. He has mad skills and seemingly endless upside. However, he seems to keep shooting himself in the foot with bad decision making resulting in fumbles, interceptions, delay of game calls and wasted time outs. He does it enough that it has become a pattern. SF has all the tools to get it done, but they don’t ever play up to their potential or be more than the sum of their parts because Kaepernik can’t seem to get out of his own way. Maybe a leopard can change his spots but I’ll believe it when I see it.

So are the Chiefs THAT good? They looked great and the Pats looked horrible but not knowing either team well enough it’s hard to tell where the line falls. I guess that’s early season for you, though. Was the Niner’s defense just really good and the Eagles overrated or are the Eagles just missing most of their offensive line and that game was a fluke?

Does ANYTHING matter … except in the precise moment? It is easy to go back and pick some moments in the history of teams. Does the QB matters as much as we think? How about Peyton losing last year or pedestrian mediocre ones a la Dilfer winning a SB? How important is an offensive line in the life of a QB. Tony Romo is the perfect example of how people perceive a QB differently. Some see the mistakes and overlook that the QB spends 80 percent of his time running for his life or on his back. Some overlook how one has such a horrendous defense that he THINKS he needs to force the ball in every situation and score 40 points.

The beauty of all is that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinions, and for some, their own set of facts. Or so it seems! Then after a few months, we all start again, with SB preseason favorites having losing seasons, and Cinderella stories.

Late answer but… I think Houston is for real. (Of course I’m from Houston, but honest, I’m practicing objectivity!) Their defense is looking scary good early and can only get better as the year progresses. Not to mention they are anchored by the million dollar man in J.J Watt. I think when they get around this Ryan Fitzpatrick nonsense (he is not playoff material) they’ll win the division, maybe even a bye week.

Also we shouldn’t (I don’t think anyone is) sleep on Philip Rivers. He is still an elite quarterback and San Diego is primed to do great things.

As for Cincy and Baltimore, I can’t see both of them coming form the same division. I feel like we’ll have the situation last year were both wild cards came from the AFC West.

Dallas is a pretender. For the very ‘reasonable’ fact that I have a bias against them ;)

Dallas looked as good this week as they did horrible in week one. Romo, to parrot the half time guys, had no hip action in week one He may not be Michael Bennett yet but he looks like he’s loosening up a bit. Philly had no O line and New England didn’t either. That’s tough with QB who isn’t built for scrambling. Seattle got away with having no O line most of last year based on having Russell Wilson so yes, a QB can make a great difference.

I am interested to see KC play SF. I bet Alex Smith will go in with a chip on his shoulder and some wind in his sails after this week.

I don’t see Cincy enough to have a good read. I have heard commentators compare Dalton to Cutler (a guy who is perpetually almost there but never quite puts it together) but I have no idea first hand.

I’m trying to pick Alex Smith up as my backup QB. I hope I get him!

There is definitely a lot of luck with timing . . . when you get a team in the course of the season. The Saints got unlucky to draw Dallas for their break out game. I think the Seahawks are lucky that they got to see the Saints get beat so as not to think Dallas would be a soft spot in the schedule as the pre-season prognosticators had thought.

Maybe the Seahawks will get lucky and Romo will have another epic fumble . . . we can only hope =D>

^^ the NFL got wiser about greasy balls and dirty tactics in Seattle. The balls are now controlled by the refs.

Staying up late reading The Big Book of NFL Conspiracy Theories? Now, if we could only account for his other 32 fumbles those first 3 seasons before he got his house in order RE ball control. Oh yeah! Jessica Simpson was paid by the mob to distract him.

I’m still semi-obsessed with the Bironas situation. (No reasonable explanation yet for him going off, threatening other drivers, single car fatal accident)

For the Vikings this evening the answer is a definitive “NO!” . . . good thing the Ducks are on later.

This is an embarrassing game for the Vikequeens.

At least one of my Green/Gold teams won. : /

A blood alcohol level at almost three times the legal limit and a low level of Valium. There clearly was more to the story than that told by his wife of watching movies and having only one beer that evening.

^^^^I agree. Who calls 911 and makes a missing persons report because your husband has been gone for 1.5 hours without telling you where he was going?

I saw that last night. It’s weird. I kind of wonder if his tryout earlier in the week wasn’t as great as he said or what. They are supposed to be honoring him at the game on Sunday.
