Are you seeing delays with USPS?

I have had very good service with my local USPS. No complaints at all with my delivery on the local end.

I have noticed lately that packages are taking longer to get to my destination. Hung up at regional sorting facilities.

I have informed delivery. I ordered bras from Nordstrom, I know not very exciting. Supposed to be delivered yesterday and then today. Still not at my postal office. Moving slowly through the process.

Has anyone noticed a recent change?

The change happened for us during Covid and never recovered. We’re lucky if the mail comes 3 days/week and packages routinely are delayed or go missing entirely. We’ve had the best luck with UPS but often when ordering something, there is no choice.

Half a dozen letters/checks (Oct-Dec) have not made it or were over a month delayed in making it to their destination. Filed complaint with USPS and received a “resolution” letter stating that they are having difficulty at sorting facilities. I have also noticed that companies sending packages are using USPS more now than in the past… less UPS and Fedex. Anyway it is really frustrating.

We moved here 3 years ago and I have no complaints with my local service, even though they are short staffed ( and advertising for help).

But like @deb922 I have had several packages that were held up at regional facilities.

The interesting thing to me is that when H orders from Amazon ( I do not shop with Amazon) that doesn’t seem to happen… Makes me wonder…

Amazon does a lot with UPS and on their own. UPS just fired Amazon so they will do more on their own.

USPS will likely fire their workers - like every other governmental department - then what?

I don’t notice delays myself - and I no longer ship things. Just order from places that deliver.

I’m lucky to get mail 4 days a week (and I’m nowhere near a rural area). I need to check informed delivery daily so I know to request new bills because at least once a month my mail never arrived (had to reorder replaccredit cards, get new paychecks, my daughters anchor refund (NJ property tax release) never arrived 1 1/2 weeks ago, I left a message a few days ago, will call again pretending to be her). Residents post photos on Facebook of mail left next to dumpsters and in the sewer.

I have had many delays for large flat envelope client mailings. Over a month to deliver on 5 different items, all within an hour’s distance. Some mailings sent December never delivered. Certified letters sitting for weeks in the Indianapolis and Louisville distribution centers.
From informed mail, I can see mail, sent from my same tiny town, that I know clients sent 5 days ago. The mail shown on my informed mail then takes 3-5 days to be delivered from the time I see it. Very frustrating!

One factor could be that after many years, in September, FedEx lost the postal contract. People got used to their mail going from coast to coast in a few days, when it used to take over a week, without realizing that it was because FedEx was utilizing their airplanes to fly postal freight during the day. While I understand that FedEx “last mile” service can be awful, they did a very good (albeit costly) job for the postal service.

UPS took over the contract, and like anything, I’m sure it will take a while to get the system down to a well oiled machine. Hopefully USPS will improve in the coming months.

Maybe it’s a logistical issue that will hopefully get better. Interesting to know.

Like I’ve said, in my rural area I’ve been really impressed with how my service is. Doesn’t sound like that’s the case everywhere.

I keep typing and deleting so much I really want to say

Yes, we used to get mail 6x a week, now if we see it 4x we feel “lucky” and yes, the delays are getting worse.

I live in a suburb and get mail/junk mail pretty much every day. It can be delayed but it seems to get here. That said I prefer to hand deliver or deposit checks (especially large ones) because they can take a while to get wherever they’re sent.

It’s worse here in Arizona. Earlier this month I sent a birthday card to my daughter in Ohio and it took 10 days.

Recently I sent my son a package from South Carolina to Chicago. USPS Ground Advantage. It was supposed to arrive in 4 days but took 18! Around day 15 when it had been in Indianapolis for 8 days I filled out an online claim form to have a case opened to find out what happened to it. I tried several times to submit the form but it wouldn’t go through.

I’m not sure we get mail delivered all the days we should. I mean, sometimes we don’t have any mail in our box for a couple of days - that’s just unusual. I’ve always blamed it on our mailman who seems not fit to do his job in more ways than one.

I’m supposed to get a book I ordered from Etsy mid-Feb. It was supposed to arrive in a few days and now mid-Mar!

Glad it arrived, I no longer send greeting cards, they tend to get stolen a lot, especially at college.

I ordered a product directly from the company that made it. I placed the order on February 8th. According to USPS tracking, the package will arrive tomorrow on March 1st. The product was sent from VA and it was going to MA. That’s 20-some days??? Seems like a long time. I even forgot that I ordered it.

Yeah, one of the places D lived a decade she’d always get her packages stolen and not delivered. It was always munchies and I started mailing them to others on campus so she’d get them. The post office was unwilling to investigate at all or do anything, despite tracking numbers.

I get mail. But it’s not always mine :mailbox_with_mail:.

Fed Ex has been horrible the last year or so. I tell every company I deal with if you use Fed Ex your getting the package sent back to you.

I live in Chicago that once was rated one of the worst postal areas. So if we get mail a few times a week it’s a bonus. Our new mail person is really sweet and she has been doing a great job of holding mail when I am gone. We have a system and it’s the first time in like ever they are actually holding our mail.

I have noticed a slow down in service and we often get our neighbor’s mail. In fact, two college acceptances went to our neighbors instead of us. We have a new letter carrier who reluctantly (stubbornly) takes the outgoing mail. I have seen him simply ignore outgoing letters and just shove the new mail into the box and walk away (thank you Ring camera). At one point he said we had to schedule pick ups or drop off at a mailbox?!?.. I think he doesn’t want the extra weight. I complained about the service to our local post office but see no improvement. The guy is coasting in this life.
