LaVoy Finicum (Tarpman) was killed. After the arrests, Ammon Bundy called from the police car to tell followers that Finicum had been shot in cold blood while surrendering. This is nonsense, like pretty much everything else that comes out of Ammon Bundy’s mouth.
There were two trucks full of rabble. The police stopped the first one, containing Ammon Bundy. The second one went around the first one, and continued to a road block a mile ahead. According to eyewitnesses in the second car, Finicum jumped out while the wheels were still spinning and charged the cops.

IMO there are times when the cops shouldn’t kill someone trying to commit suicide by cop. But I don’t see any choice here.
Be nice if there was a dash camera here. Not that conspiracy theorists wouldn’t allege it was doctored if there were.
Too bad they couldn’t have tazed him. I wonder if his gun was drawn.
You’d have to be practically next to the guy to tase him. He probably came out with gun drawn and when told to drop it, didn’t.
I’m not sure if this has been mentioned in one of the links, but this was the person who stated he wouldn’t go to jail- he’d die instead. So it wouldn’t surprise me if something like NoVA’s scenario is on-point.
News conference now. Sheriff Ward is speaking and he is upset. Apparently it started November 5th when Bundy and others went to his office and started making unreasonable demands. “We all make choices in life. Sometimes our choices go bad”. “If we have problems with our government… we have an obligation as citizens to act appropriately. We don’t arm up. We don’t arm up and rebel”.
I don’t know how it is ever going to be possible to reason with those believing religious teachings they have a divine right to areas of the US. I am sorry someone had to die.

To clarify: the protestors created this situation, and the blame for this guy’s death is on them.
What’s really sad is that this is probably part of what they wanted.

The eyewitnesses who said Finicum charged the law officers were other militia members who were in the truck with him. They were people who were sympathetic to Finicum. They were on his side. So if they say he charged the law officers, they are believable.
The Bundy militia folks have a lot of nerve potinificating over their “right” to the land while completely disregarding claims from a group with a far more legitimate claim to it:

Considering some of the militia folks have vandalized and pilfered Paiute Indian sites and artifacts, the Fed need to file serious charges on this on top of other serious felonious charges…

The FBI have released the camera footage from an aerial vehicle. You can see it uncut on the FBI’s youtube channel (they have a Youtube channel?).
It shows the two vehicles being pulled over, very hard to see but someone comes out of the white pickup truck from the back door after a few minutes (Ryan Payne), a few minutes later the white pickup truck speeds away but heads straight into a road block. LaVoy steer off the road, almost hitting a police officer and quickly comes out of the truck. Yes, his hands are raised at first but he also reaches into his jacket 2 or 3 times and they found a loaded gun there. He is shot and it takes several more minutes for the other three people to exit the truck.

YMMV, but in my mind there’s no doubt that the law officers were within their rights and duties to shoot him. He reached for what seems to be a gun.
Hopefully it will be over soon, as peacefully as possible.
