Is there anyone who applied to or considering Ashoka University? Can someone give me some info about the university? Would it be wise to attend since this will be their first year.

Is it possible to transfer from Ashoka University to another college in America??

Yes, it’s definitely possible. UPenn helped it set up in India, it’s definitely a good college and my safety ;-)

@peepingtom it says it provides an ivy-quality education. Is it so ? LOL I don’t believe it tbh. It even asks for SAT scores and recos- I’m not sure though, someone told me. But what I think is it’s not very well-known, not even in India. No-one in my class has ever heard of Ashoka University. All they say is- It must be self-financed college which is on par with universities like Amity, LPU, and Sharda- the unis which are more focused on advertising their university than providing a top-notch education. What are your views ? Is it really that bad ?

It’s gaining popularity rapidly given that it is going to start this year only (it’s not even started yet). I had same questions too, but all of them were satisfied. I looked through their staff directory and most of them have studied in prestigious US colleges, some are even from IITs and IIMs, I’ve no doubt that they will provide an ivy education. Infrastructure is good too. Everyone gets an adviser which helps them choose majors and careers etc. I personally asked whether I can dual/triple major, and they said it won’t be a problem as long as I’m willing to take some extra classes and work hard. To sum it all up, it’s basically a US college located in India, transferring won’t be a problem due to the same LAC format and it’s relatively well known abroad. If you’re serious, I think you should fill up their forms now, they provide need based aid or first come first serve basis.

Ashoka will enroll its first students in 2014 ( the next few months). Hence, no one would have heard of it.
Their faculty, and academic council looks great. ( Check their website out).

Admissions are holistic, like most top US colleges.

Looks quite good. @peepingtom Are you applying for the class of 2019?

yes, as i said earlier, it’s a safety for me. They’re practically begging me to attend, they would’ve given me an unconditional offer but I still haven’t applied yet. The applications for Class of 2019 will begin maybe after December '14.

@peepingtom It looks great. I visited the website and the faculty is outstanding. All of them have degrees from prestigious UK/US institutions. It has some foreign professors as well It’s great if you miss out the offers from some top US institutions. :))

I wouldn’t go that far! If studying at Ashoka is your “dream”, then dream big. It’s good but it’s not MIT or even Harvard.

We can’t comment anything till the first batch comes out, and we can’t wait that long as well lol. It has good professors and infrastructure, but as it’s a newer institution- no one would like to experiment with his/her career.

^ very true

I just got an email from Ashoka saying that their applicants so far have the following stats:

* Our incoming class boasts of a SAT average of 2100 (max. 2320; min. 1830), while it is not mandatory to have SAT to apply to Ashoka
Over 2000 students from reputed schools in 250 cities across India, China, USA, Bangladesh, Turkey, Singapore and UAE, are applying
Applicants are characterised by exceptional academic and extra-curricular performance, and a wide range of interests and abilities *

I was quite surprised by how high the average SAT score was. Its almost at par with the scores of most top-tier liberal arts colleges in the US.

Don’t be surprised, most applicants use Ashoka as a safety and apply anyways, in case they’re not admitted into their dream school in the states. also, the average (not middle 50% or 25-75th percentile) is 2100, it only means that sum of all SAT scores divided my the no. of applicants, it says nothing about the strength of the class as a whole. We all know that mean (average) can be affected very easily by extreme figures.

@peepingtom I’m going to apply there for the 4th round. Did you decide to go there? Any new info you have on them?

Hey @peepingtom - Any more info on Ashoka? Are you going there? Where are you headed?!?
