"Ashton Kutcher to make Two And A Half Men debut"

I think the first episode was handled pretty well - got a chuckle out of seeing Dharma and Greg, thought the spilled ashes was too predictable. I’m still waiting to see how they move forward with the new character.

I know it’s a sitcom but I did’nt like the levity in this show. It made the remaining characters completely unbelievable. The brothers although always poking fun at one another did love and care for each other and Jake adored his uncle. The funeral scene just did’nt work for me. I was expecting some tender moment when the ashes were delivered and predictably they ended up on the floor…agree with another poster that this was neither original or creative and the writers would have done a better job if they allowed that moment to see Allen grieving.

^^interesting observation. I never thought any of the characters were particularly believable pre Charlie fiasco

There was no way the writers were going to give Sheen any recognition beyond what they did…

I never watched this show before.

Now I know why.

Is this really what passes for mainstream American humor these days? A string of weak and obvious sex jokes? Maybe I’m old-fashioned but I prefer stuff I could watch without cringing while sitting next to my daughter.

^^has always been this way. Def not PG…

Head to Modern Family and The Middle to watch with your kids…

The ratings were huge – about 28 million.

Rodney…agreed about the writers. Interesting how they knew all about his drug induced nutty behavior for so long but kept the cash cow rolling, but when he finally broke they distanced themselves like he was the plague himself. He was good enough in any shape to make the money for all of them but they showed no sense of decency in how they killed him off.

If anyone saw the roast…I actually felt really sad when he tried to bring humor to the fact that not one family member was present. I guess his dear old dad just can’t stand by and watch his son self inflict anymore pain. Maybe if this were all behind him, ten years down the road, it would be different but the roast was just too soon for any family to enjoy. BTW, I thought it was very funny!

Not funny. Ashton Kutcher has to do more than walk around naked playing a doofus. Is Jon Cryer going to carry the show now?

Did you notice how much weight he’s lost since last season? Wow!

Sheen played a womanizing playboy while Cryer played a dimwit. Kutcher seems to be playing a hopeless romantic who is naive about women. If Kutcher is not a womanizer how will the show establish a contrast between Kutcher and Cryer?

I would have had Kutcher be the illegimate child of Charlie and a teacher (I think Charlie – the character – said he lost his virginity at an early age). This would explain him between agewise between Alan and Jake. I would have had Charlie die without a will. While the family was sitting around, I would have Kutcher walk in, and the family look at him, and say heah you look familiar, you look like Mrs. Smith at our middle school. Then the OMG minute.

^now that script would have been typical of Charlie behavior and far more believable. I think the writers went a little too hard core in expressing distain for the real life Charlie.

The show wasn’t funny.

Ok, I started the thread, but never watched 2.5 men or 70’s show, and didn’t watch much 2.5 last night, and didn’t see the roast. Husband wasn’t having it. But I am still curious about what happened with the show, and with Sheen; Is that a “meme” thing? Two questiins;

So the kid on the show last night is the some kid from previous seasons?

Charlie sheen was on the roast? Why would he submit to that?

It simply wasn’t funny . On any level.

It would take a miracle for Kutcher to carry the show. Perhaps they should convince Demi to join the show as his mommy.

Oh Xiggi, now lets not make fun of men with older women.

H has always liked 2.5 more than me; he will laugh at stuff that I think is just plain stupid. That said, I doubt either of us will continue watching the new 2.5 – we’re totally indifferent about AK, and I don’t see him/his character replacing Charlie. I haven’t liked Jake’s role since he was a little kid; now he just comes across as far too dimwitted and stupid. In short, this won’t be on our “watch” list.

Oh, you’re all too serious; give it a chance! Ashton Kutcher is easy on the eyes so I’ll watch for at least a few more weeks. I don’t think he’s playing it “wooden”; I think he’s just playing it “dumb.” I think he’ll eventually fit in just fine. Besides, the other characters – Jake, Judith, the mom, Berta, and of course Allen – are absolutely fantastic.

Didn’t care for the first post-Charlie episode. Reminded me of the 1st show in season 8 (or was it 9?) of Scrubs - trying too hard to recapture the humor and losing it along the way. I’ll give it two more episodes…
