Hi, I’m Lawrenceville ‘26, happy to answer any questions!
What’s the mood on campus going into the Fall Semester?
Hey! I’m Lawrenceville '23; I’m also happy to help!
Overall there have been some major changes on campus, that I think many people are nervous/worried about. The biggest of those includes no more fall and spring finals— this might sound nice, but a lot of students are worried about how this will effect workload, particularly in the spring term. Overall, there are a lot of changes that people are looking out for this fall!
Hi, I’m an incoming '26.
How are the dorms at Lawrenceville? I’m an international student so I don’t have much experience yet in terms of dorms and I’m a bit worried right now. And in terms of coming in a year later, do you think it would affect my experience, both academically and socially, in any way?
Hey! You’ll be in my grade! From what I understand, you most likely will not get a single 3rd form room, and will most likely be rooming with someone else-- don’t worry though, because the heads of houses try to pair up new 3rd formers with roommates who have similar interests!
In terms of coming a year later, I wouldn’t worry about that! There are plenty of kids who will be coming in(20-30% of the class, I believe) and in general our community is very welcoming and has many international students.
Please let me know if you have any specific questions related to sports, music, classes, etc. I would be happy to help!
If you’re male, it’s about 50/50 (varies depending on what House you’re in); girls’ Houses, however, have all of the sophomores in doubles.
It was almost exactly 1/3 of my graduating class.
Hiiii! I’m going to study as a sophomore student in Lawrenceville, but i still have a lot of questions about the school.
(1) Cause I did not take the freeman year in Lawrenceville, are there some placement test I need to take?
(2) Are there some regulations about choosing the courses. For example, I have already take the ap cal BC in last year, so could i choose math subject like statistics during the sophomore?
(3) Do students need to study the same foreign language for three years or we can still change classes during the school year?
Hi
Welcome to Lville. There are Placement tests for Math and Language in addition to your transcript, grades and testing coming into Lville. I believe the materials are all up on the portals. You can reach out to admissions, If you have already taken AP calc. Math placement will be based on ability and there are other higher math options. Additionally, there are programs at Princeton U. If needed. See the language requirements for graduation. Students can change or add language as long as they are meeting the requirements. Again, I suggest you reach out to your admissions rep. Feel free to dm me further questions. I can either answer or try to help get you in touch with the right people. The portal is very user-friendly.
Shouldn’t this student now have an advisor?
Hi, I graduated from Lawrenceville in 2023.
Yes, there are some placement tests all incoming students need to take for math and language. Check your Lawrenceville email—it should have all of the information you need.
Yes, you can; there are usually 1-2 freshmen/sophomores in Calculus-Based Stats (prereq: Calculus BC) each year. It all depends on your placement; I imagine you would need to submit your AP Calculus score to the math department.
I believe that you have to study the same language up to level three (the graduation requirement).
I don’t know about how it works now, but I was assigned my advisor about two weeks before my freshman year started.
I recommend that you reach out to the Dean of Academics or the Circle/Crescent (Circle if male, Crescent if female) Level Director for more information; their emails should be on the website.
Can you tell me more about taking classes or participating in academic year programs at Princeton University?
Thi s if the school believes you have placed out of their curriculum and if classes can be arranged to align with students schedule. While it is possible, it is not the norm as Lville has a pretty rich offering to meet most of their high achieving students. You could always talk to the admissions team if you thought this applied to your child.
@Sroo Hi. My DS was accepted to LVille and we are thinking through LV’s math program and have some questions. You had mentioned opportunity to take math courses outside the school, like at Princeton. Can you elaborate please? Is the school generally supportive of that? How is the math department in general? Can you speak about the quality of teaching and support of the faculty both at the lower and higher level? Thank you so much!
@SwimmingSat following up on this question. How has the workload been given the changes to the finals schedule? How have students adjusted to the new three courses a day-80 min long schedule? Has it been better overall?
Hi Dm and I can walk you through the math program.
Would it be okay to DM you some questions?
Of course!
