Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

My son is applying to a 7 year medical program. He had an interview at TCNJ and at the Medical school. Decision is going to be out for that program 1st week of April. But if he doesn’t make it since its highly competative, can I assume that he’s most likely getting into the regular TCNJ program since he qualified for both interviews? We haven’t heard anything from admission so far at all. No second review or anything like that.

My daughters application status on Paws says complete as of 11/28/11. We haven’t heard anything. Do you have a target date for completing all notifications early than 3/31 accepted student day or will it go right to the 4/1 date… I

Hi Grtoci! If you still haven’t heard about scholarship, you can call our scholarship hotline to see what the story is. That phone number is 609.771.3239.

Hi Ialan137. Yes. We’ll accept college credits with a C or better, even if the classes were taken during high school.

Momworried, don’t worry! You will be hearing back soon about your son’s alternate major choice.

3kidsatonce, we are doing our best to get all decisions out in time so that students who are notified in that last mailing can attend Accepted Students Day. All decisions are guaranteed by April 1.

Hello, when are the nursing transfer students going to get a response on PAWS in regards to admission. Thank you in advance

That is for all classes, right? I’m take Calc I, English Comp I, and Bio 101, so I just want to make sure these classes will definitely be transferred.

Hi Dutch22! All transfer applicants who had their information in by the deadline are guaranteed a decision by April 1.

Ialan137, you got it. As long as you have a C or better in those classes, you’ll receive credit for them.

Thank you again!

My son has applied for 7 Year TCNJ/UMDNJ Med Program. Until last week on the PAWS Account Application Status it had his 1st choice and now we see his 2nd choice. He completed both 1st interview at TCNJ (1st week of Feb) and 2nd interview at NJMS (1st week of March). Until now we have not heard anything from TCNJ on his Application, admission to honors program, merit scholarships, etc. Should we have to call someone at TCNJ or wait until 1st week of April?

Hi NJCentralDad. The reason for the flip is because we have made decision for all 7 year students RE: their second choice major. They should be receiving a letter soon that will have their decision on that choice and most likely their scholarship/honors program info. If their rank was not included on their transcript, it may take a few additional days to get the scholarship information for them. 7 year applicants find out if they were accepted into the 7 year program usually by the first weeks of April.

NJCentralDad, my son also had both interviews. Is this your son’s 1st choice?
What are his stats? My son’s SAT 1490. 2nd in his class. Bio SAT 760, CHEM 740, Math 2 740. His stats are probably on the lower side for this program. I was surprised when he got a call for the interview. Keeping fingers crossed. It’s a great program.

momworried, Yes this is his top choice. He is very much interested in this program. His SAT is 1540, Math 2 800, Physics 800. Top 5% in the class. Wait will be over in another few weeks. Good luck to your son.

Hey,AdmissStaffTCNJ, what are you looking for in a transfer student who has their associates from a NJ Community College. I.E. minimum GPA, Extracurriculars, ECT. Thank you.

When can we expect to receive letters regarding financial aid package/merit scholarships?

My application is in a second review phase. If I am accepted or rejected, will I see the status posed on PAWS before I receive it in the mail? I check every day, and the suspense is stressing me out!

My son has a conflict with the 3/31 accepted students day. Is attending one of the Thursday nights tours a good alternative? He really wants to attend on 3/31, but has not been able to get out of his prior commitment yet…

My son just got an acceptance letter! He’s getting $40000 in Merit scholarship which is great. But the letter didn’t say anything about the Honors program. Does that mean he didn’t get into the Honors?

Firefighter22, transfers depends on what major the student applies into and what spaces we have in that program that semester. It changes every semester, unfortunately. To apply, you would need a 2.5 GPA, but to be competitive, I would say you need a 3.0. When it comes to EC’s, the more with serious dedication and leadership the better!

Paulamcl, financial aid packages are coming out very soon and should be in your email inbox before Accepted Students Day.

Jeriko, as soon as we put letters in the mail, it will be reflected on PAWS, so, yes it will be online maybe a few hours to a day before you receive the letter. You should be hearing a final decision very soon! We guarantee all decisions by April 1.

Njxcdrmom, while there is no equivalent to Accepted Students Day, the Thursday tours are a great option if you can’t attend on 3/31. We’ll have Financial Aid, Res Ed and Housing, the Career Center and Admissions open until 7 pm to answer your questions.

Momworried, why don’t you give our Scholar Hotline a call at 609.771.3239 so that we can go over that with you.

My son got an acceptance letter today but no mention of any Merit Scholarship or Honors program. Do we need to contact anyone at TCNJ or do we get separate mailings on these?

Hi NJCentralDad. Congratulations! If your son’s high school reports his rank on the transcript, he should have heard with his acceptance letter. If they do not report rank but his SAT/ACT score qualifies him for a scholarship, we may be waiting to hear back from them regarding his rank. If you’re unsure if he qualified, you can give a call to our scholar hotline at 609.771.3239. The scholar hotline is also where you should call to ask about the Honors Program since this year, we are incorporating invitations to apply in with certain scholarships.

I recently got accepted (two days ago) as a Biology major. Now, I’m thinking about majoring in some sort of education, instead. My guidance counselor said something about having to reapply to change my major. Is it easier than she thinks to change majors? Does it even matter since freshman year is mostly general requirements anyways?
