Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

Hello AdmissionStaffTCNJ,

I just received my admission letter for the BioMed Engg program. I am in the same predicament as that of NJCentralDAD’s son. I have not received invitation for the Honors program yet.

My credentials are above TCNJ’s Honors Prog’s minimum requirements:
SAT-I: (1540 M+CR), 2230 (+WR).
Sat -II: Math-II 800, Physics:800, Chemistry:800
Top 9% (The rank was submitted as part of my Common App. transcripts, and have already sent my Mid-Year report).
National Merit Commended List, AP Scholar, NHS etc., … also have other EC’s, 12 years of Piano including a couple of Performances at Carnegie Hall., Varsity Tennis etc.,

As you mentioned earlier, I will wait for a few days for the Scholarship email notification.

But, regarding Honors program, should I wait for a few days before calling your Honors Scholar program hotline 609.771.3239?
Or will there be opportunity/time during Admitted Students Day on March 1st to deal with these issues?
Thx,
njCave

did you guys send out all the letters of acceptance yet?

Cena 13 Look at post #283, they are trying to get them all out by this week. Have you reviewed your Paws account? That will tell you when your application was complete or any missing documents. Paws ID was sent to you in a letter. My D application was completed on 11/28 and we just heard she was accepted on 3/22.

Good Luck

When do we find out about financial aid? On PAWS it says I can’t see it until June 15th…

Does scholarship information come along with your acceptance letter? Is it still possible to recieve a scholarship if that information did not come with your acceptance?

I see that the website says scholarships are offered to those in the top 10% of the class with SAT of 1300, but that co-curricular involvement and leadership is also considered.

My daughter had SAT 1240/1890, is currently ranked #2, president of NHS, president of Key Club, VP of senior class along with other extra curriculars. I was somewhat surprised/disappointed that she is not being offered any scholarship from TCNJ.

Might she still be hearing something?

Hi Cakes123! Congrats on your acceptance! If you are interested in changing your major and have already been accepted, it is considered a request that is reviewed by our Director of Admissions. If there are spots available in your desired major, she will grant your request. All requests are responded to in about 2 weeks. To get more instructions on how to make that request, please call 609.771.2131.

NJCave - I would recommend calling the Scholar’s Hotline Pre-Accepted Students Day to get that question answered. There will be people around on the 31st that you can talk to but they won’t have access to your file to really look into the situation more closely at that moment.

Cena13 - All final decisions will be made and postmarked by April 1. We will be making the last few decisions this week.

EAL94 - Estimated Award Packages are being finalized today and tomorrow and so you should be hearing by the middle of the week as to what Financial Aid will be available to you soon. Keep an eye out in your inbox. We will be sending emails when your estimated package is complete and ready for you to view on PAWS and a hard copy letter will follow up in the mail soon after.

Paulamcl - This year, as in years past, we’ve looked to our admitted student averages and awarded above that. A typical student who received merit aid from TCNJ is falling in the top 10% of their graduating class and had a 1300/1600 on their SATs. Some students may not hear with their acceptance letter about their scholarship, so please call our scholar hotline at 609.771.3239 to inquire about your daughter’s status.

My daughter applied to TCNJ as a transfer and is anxiously awaiting her decision. If accepted she would like very much to attend the admitted students day on Saturday. She is currently attending school out of state four hours away and we would need to make a train reservation for her to come home Friday night in order to attend admitted students day on Saturday. Is there any way we can make sure she hears in time to come home for this important event on Saturday should she be admitted?

My daughter is a transfer student and is awaiting her decision. She will earn her Associates degree this May from burlington county college. Can you tell me if she will have to take the foreign language courses? She did not take them at bcc. Also, same question as ^^.

Dear Admissions Counselor,
I got accepted to TCNJ 3 weeks ago. I applied to school of management. Can I change to the school of engineering for Biomedical Engineering. Also can I be considered for the 7 year Biomedical program?

You mentioned that all final decisions will be made and postmarked by April 1.
Since April 1 is a Saturday, will I actually know the final verdict by checking online on Friday evening or will I have to wait the entire weekend. I was hoping to attend the admitted students day on Saturday if I am lucky enough to get accepted!
Thank you.

Momof3daughters- Transfer decisions were mailed out at the very beginning of this week, so it should be hitting your mailbox today. As with all decisions, once we put the letters in the mail, they are posted in PAWS.

Udelalum- I honestly can not say because our language requirement depends on the major your daughter is accepted too. Also, depending on the courses she took for her Associates, she may have completed her liberal learning requirement. Since your daughter went to a NJ County College, she can use NJtransfer.org to check and see how her credits will transfer to TCNJ. It will be able to tell her what classes her Associates will count towards and depending on what major she wants, which classes at TCNJ she’ll need in order to finish her Bachelor’s degree.

Nym27jrey - Congratulations! If you’d like to switch your major, give us a call at 609-771-2131 and we’ll give you instructions on how you can make that request. At this point, your major change will be considered a request that needs to be approved by the Director of Admissions. We do this so that we can ensure that no program gets over crowded. Once you enroll at TCNJ, all internal transfers (major changes) are handled by the individual departments, not the Admissions Office. Most are simply getting signatures from the different department chairs, but some programs, like Biology for example, are a little more complicated and require applications. The 7 year program is a highly competitve program that is only offered to students applying as high school seniors. For that reason, you can not switch your major to the 7 year Biomedical Program. If you are interested in pursuing medicine after your undergrad, check out our Medical Careers Advisory Committee: [Medical Careers Advisory Committee :: Department of Biology :: The College of New Jersey](The College of New Jersey | Department of Biology)

Jeriko - Most of our final decisions are in the mail currently and should arrive in your mailbox any day now. As with final transfer decisions, once the letter is in the mail, it should be reflected in PAWS.

I’ve been checking my status almost daily since December and it remains the same. It states that I have no admitted applications that require action at this time.
I have nothing outstanding in my ToDo list. If am rejected, will I see it on PAWS?

Momof3daughters. My daughter is also a transfer student. Did you receive the decision in the mail today? We did not. And what do you check on PAWS? I checked accept admission but there is nothing. Thanks!

Will PAWS tell me if I have been rejected? Or only accepted?

udelalum: yes! my daughter got her acceptance letter in the mail today! Sorry you didn’t receive yours. Hopefully, you will tomorrow. Good luck to your daughter!

What percentage of minority students were admitted with a college GPA 3.4 and above in the nursing program,I thought the college was about diversity and holistic approach, If 3 minority students apply to a program with 3.8 college GPA and all are rejected something ain’t right.

still didnt hear yet on Fall 2012 decision. Is that a bad sign? Other students that received the secondary review status have since gotten in.

Is the engineering major full for Fall 2012

Hi All, decisions are coming out any day now! All decisions are guaranteed by April 1, so if you don’t get your letter in the mail before the weekend, it will be there soon after. Just hold on a little bit longer.

Dutch22 - we certainly do take a holistic approach to reviewing applications that take into account transcripts, leadership, EC’s, SAT/ACT, rec letters, essays and diversity. If you have a question about your decision or that of your son/daughter, please give us a call at 609-771-2131 and a counselor will be happy to go over it with you.

Hello,

If an applicant still hasn’t heard back yet, but gets admitted by 4/1, he won’t be able to go to the Admitted Students Day on 3/31. Is there anyway that he can still go to it because I’m sure that it will be a good opportunity that should not be missed.
