Yes. Just make sure to be discussing these options with your advisor. If you think you might want to eventually switch to a certain major, they can help you plan your liberal learning courses so that they’ll help you stay on track for graduation in 4 years if you decide to switch.

I’ve seen some kids posted on CC that they got a call from Dr. Shevlin about the 7 year med program couple of days ago. Does that mean that if my son didn’t get a call he didn’t make it?

Momworried, I honestly have no idea. He should be hearing officially very soon!

AdmissStaffTCNJ,

Some schools, such as Rutgers, have a BA/MD program with NJMS where college students can apply during their sophomore year. I am wondering if TCNJ has anything like this.

Thanks!

here is what I am referring to:

What will be the parents weekend this fall? I found the oct 21-22parents prorgram for 2011 on the TCNJ website. I need to book my travel plan and want to plan ahead.

Hi Erythropoietin! TCNJ does not have a program like that for admitted students. Our 7 year program is only for incoming freshman. We do have the Medical Careers Advisory Program that helps students of all majors get in to medical schools. Through that program, we see about 85% of the students get admitted to their professional school on their first try… more than double the national average! Check out their website here: [Medical Careers Advisory Committee :: Department of Biology :: The College of New Jersey](The College of New Jersey | Department of Biology)

Hi Wtuan! I don’t have any more information regarding Parents Weekend in the fall. It usually falls in the end of October. When your student comes for Orientation this summer, you can check in with the Parents and Family Association. They’ll have a table set up during the day and should have more information on Parents Weekend.

What percentage attendmedical school outside NJ. Thanks.

Sent from my LS670 using CC

I don’t have the exact number of students who attend medical school outside of NJ, but I can tell you that we send out students to medical school all over the country. They are attending schools as local as Philadelphia and as far spread as Boston and California! To see exactly where our students go after college for grad schools, professional schools and employment, check out our ‘One Year Out Survey’!
Hi, I’m considering a transfer to TCNJ for accounting for Spring 2013 semester. I am currently a freshman with a 3.8 GPA. I will be transferring from Rutgers Business School Newark Campus. Will my credits transfer and what is the rate of acceptance for transfer students from other 4 year institutions? Also, do I have a better chance of getting on campus housing as a transfer if I apply for a transfer to the fall semester instead as commuting is certainly not an option for me? Thanks in advance!

Hi Chaotic20! Unfortunately, due to the nature of transfer admissions at TCNJ, it’s impossible to say what the acceptance rate is or what it will be in the future. For our transfer class, we can only offer as many seats as the individual departments tell us they have available. This fluctuates each semester as students change their majors and graduate. If you are accepted and choose to enroll at TCNJ, a transcript evaluator will review your transcript and let you know what each course will transfer as. Typically, the general rule is that anything at the 100 or 200 level with a C or better will transfer in. Transfer students are not guaranteed on campus housing. In years past, it has been very difficult for transfer students to get housing. Once they submit their enrollment deposit, transfer students can sign up for the housing wait list. The housing wait list is ranked by distance from campus. The Office of Residential Education and Housing has plenty of resources to help you find off campus housing. Also, a lot of transfer students use groups in Facebook to help them find roommates off campus.

Thanks! So assuming I get accepted and I enroll and pay the deposit and sign up for the housing waitlist but do not get selected and off campus housing is not affordable, what can I do then?

Oh and one last question, when is the earliest I can apply for a transfer in Spring 2013? Thanks a lot!

Hi Chaotic20. In my experience dealing with students, they find affordable housing off campus. If that is the case however, you can meet with Residential Education and Housing to talk about your options. You can apply for Spring 2013 as early as September 2012.

Thank you for clearing everything up!

My daughter will be overseas (teaching English at remote schools in Taiwan) this summer. She will miss the freshman orientation. What shall we do instead? Can we (parents) represent her and collect information for her?

Hi AdminStaff, Would a transfer coming in during the spring semester have the same acceptance rate as opposed one coming in for the fall semester? Also, does a transfer have a higher chance of getting on campus housing when coming in for the fall or spring semester? Finally, would it be better for me if I applied for the fall or spring semester?

Thanks!

Hi Wtuan! An email regarding orientation will be sent to all enrolled students in early May. There is no need for you guys to come… most of the day wouldn’t be relevant to you as parents. We’ll get her the information another way. More information on what will happen will be coming soon.

Hi psk314! Check post #350 for the answers to most of those questions. As to when you should apply, that really depends on your specific situation. The more college credits you have, the less we look at your HS transcripts. If you were not a strong student in HS, it may be better for you to wait an additional semester to have more courses and grades for us to evaluate you on.

Is TCNJ an eligible institution for the NJ Stars I program?

How much does admissions consider SAT scores of someone who has earned 43 credits and completed 3 semesters at another 4 year institution with a 3.5+ cumulative GPA and is applying for a transfer?

Hello,
Thank you for taking questions. My D has been accepted into TCNJ engineering as well as many other good engineering schools. She really liked the feel of TCNJ each time she visited(I believe this is very important) and I know it has an excellant academic reputation, beautiful campus etc.I’m not sure how it stands in engineering rankings including internships, co-ops and ultimately career services. She has also expressed an interest in possibly pursuing engineering education;I believe it is called STEM.Is it possible to do both? She should be coming in with many AP credits assuming they are accepted. If she does take the education route,TCNJ would be a fantastic option but if she stays with engineering only, we just don’t know very much about it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you again.
