Does TCNJ give any consideration to an applicant being the first in the family to attend college?

Hi Started! The Common App supplement for TCNJ will be live on September 1. Youāll be able to submit your application as soon as that piece goes live. There are no changes to the requirements of either of those programs.

Hi MomFullofQs! If a student is a first generation college student, that is something we will see on the application but it does not necessarily award the student any special advantages.

Hi TCNJ!

I really love TCNJ and am planning on visiting the campus again this fall! I was just wondering if there were any times that I could speak to an Admissions Counselor? For instance, do you speak to prospective students after tours or do the students have to set up appointments with you? Iāve heard of some people speaking to admissions counselors at other schools to see their chances of being accepted, so I was curious to see if TCNJ did the same thing. And if so, how does it work?

Thanks!

AdmissStaffTCNJ - As the parent of a potential out of state freshman student I have concerns about the apparent lack of housing. Do you have any numbers available for the percentage of juniors that request on-campus housing and are denied due to lack of space?

Thank you

Hi i actually came back from a deployment and would love to transfer but my gpa in HS was i believe a 2.4. Can i get accepted or is there something i need to do. Im currently back in college for the semester

NJLions123 - If you have an questions that are not answered during the general information session, you are more than welcome to speak with an Admissions Counselor after your tour. We have plenty of counselors on staff available to speak with students whenever our office is open (Most weekdays, 8:30 - 4:30). We take a look at demonstrrated interest when reviewing applications, but asking a counselor questions after a tour or stopping in to speak with a counselor does not get factored in. We use official college visits (tours, Lionās Days, Junior Visit Days, etc.) to measure demonstrated interest.

LACSearch - All out-of-state students are guaranteed housing for 4 years, so this would not be an issue for your son/daughter. For our in-state students, most who apply for on-campus housing have a place to live on campus. I donāt have an exact number for you, but even this year with Cromwell being unavailable, Residential Education and Housing was able to honor most requests.

Zarinacano - The more college credit you have, the less we will consider your academic record from high school.
Thanks for the info!

Hello again, couple of questions:

Is there a specific early decision application needed or can the Common App be used?

Do the parents need to submit the CSS/Financial Aid for an early decision? If so, is there a separate site to do that?

Thanks very much.

Emily.

So sorry, another question - how should the recommendation letters be submitted? By mail or using the links within the Common App? Does it matter?

Thank you.

Hello Admissions, I recently applied as a Spring '13 transfer during the third week of August. When will I receive the email consisting of my username and password to check if all my documents are in?

Thanks!

Hi Emily0722! The only way to apply to TCNJ is through the Common App. There is a space for you to designate that youād like to apply ED. You need to sign that commitment form. Regardless of how you apply, you can not submit your FAFSA until January 1 of your senior year. It doesnāt matter to us how you send your rec letters in. If you can attach them to your Common App great, if not, weāll match them up with your application in our office.

Bigman92 - Thatās great to hear! Weāve opened the application so that we can start accepting applications like yours, but we havenāt started the process of downloading applications into our system just yet. Once we do that, you will receive a username and password so that you can check your status. We are looking to start downloading and creating usernames in the next 2 weeks. Be sure to check your email! :)

Thanks very much!

Do you mean providing the teachersā e-mail addresses within the Common App?

Thank you, does transfer admissions take into account how early a student has applied? Also, does the decision come in as soon as one is made or are all the decisions sent out at the same time at the end?

How many people applied and how many were accepted into tcnj business program as transfers last year?

In the years past, about how many people were accepted into the accounting major as spring transfers?

Thanks in advance!

Hello admissions, my son is currently looking to transfer in. He did his first year at MSU and due to some personal issues, it didnāt work out or reflect him very well. He is currently at a local CC and wants to transfer for spring. Does he have to submit his GPA from MSU or can he only list his CC transcripts and HS transcripts. Main reason I am asking is because on the Common App it only asks for his most recent college. If he must submit them, is there any way he can write about this in his personal essay to help admissions understand his situation? Or will his bad first year essentially bar him from ever getting in. His current GPA at CC however is 3.75

Hi Emily0722- No, there is an actual cover sheet for the Rec Letters that Iām referring to. You should ask your guidance counselors/teachers. Iām sure they can show you exactly what Iām talking about.

Hi Bigman92 - All our transfer decisions are sent out at one time. It does not matter how early you apply, so long as it is before the deadline.

Brookdale93 and bigman92, Iām not sure on those numbers. With transfer admissions, it changes so much from semester to semester. We have to take into account how many seats are available, which can vary greatly, and then how many students apply, which also varies greatly.

Hi Zazeyy - Transfer applicants must submit all of their transcripts from both HS and any colleges they attended. This means he must submit his MSU transcript. If heās concerned about that transcript and how it may reflect on him, I would recommend writing about it in the essay. Also, keep in mind that the most recent college transcript will have more weight. I hope that helps!

Thank you! Another question - does TCNJ provide any scholarships to the National Merit Scholarship semifinalists?

How competitive is your psychology program? For example, how many applied/were accepted in the last incoming freshman class, and what was their middle 50% SAT/ACT range? Also do you offer a 5 year BS/MS program for Psychology? Lastly, what research opportunities do you offer for Psychology majors? Thanks
