I have completed over 45 credits at another institution (well over) and am aware that standardized test scores are not required at this point for a transfer application. My question is, will admissions CONSIDER test scores after a transfer applicant has completed more than 45 credits? Or will they be overlooked?

Admissions TCNJ-
Read that your 95% NJ residents and that TCNJ is looking to increase OOS representation?
If so, what is the breakdown by state of OOS students?
Last is there any disadvantage for OOS- is the more difficult for OOS,
If anyone else has feedback on this, it is welcomed.

Hi. I would like to know, do I need to meet all the requirements on NJTransfer to transfer from Brookdale Community College? I’m missing some arts and/or humanities credits and I was wondering would I have to take that at BCC or would I be able to make that up after I transfer.

Emily0722 - We do not. We offer scholarship through our own scholarship programs. For more information, please follow this link: [Freshmen Applicants | Admissions](<a href=“TCNJ | The College of New Jersey”>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey)

Busybeemom: Psychology is one of our more competitve program. The acceptance rate for that probably slightly lower than our general admissions acceptance rate of 45%. Again, because of the competitve nature of this program, the middle 50% SAT/ACT is on the higher end of TCNJ’s Admissions middle 50% (1220 - 1380). It is only a slight shift, nothing too dramatic from the general admissions stats. We do have a 5 year counseling program. More information can be found on our website. All TCNJ students have a variety of research opportunities. Specifically, our MUSE program is a popular summer research option. More information MUSE can be found here: [MUSE | Faculty-Student Scholarly and Creative Collaborative Activity](Mentored Undergraduate Summer Experience | Faculty-Student Scholarly and Creative Collaborative Activity)

Najfe3434: If you have over 45 credits when you apply as a transfer, your SAT/ACT scores will not be considered.

Sportsman29: We are actually sitting closer to 93% in-state students, but yes, we are trying to grow our OOS population. Most of our OOS students come from NY and PA but we do have a growing cohort coming from the metro DC area and New England. We also receive applications from as far as California. It is not more difficult for OOS students. We encourage the diversity that they offer our campus, which is why we are looking to grow that number. There is no real disadvantage to being OOS, perhaps, in some cases, that it may take them a little longer to travel home for the holidays.

Fadedmemories: You will be able to make those up once you transfer in to TCNJ. The guidelines on NJTransfer.org just offer the classes that allow you to maximize your time at your county college.

Few more questions. I will be applying for the BA/accounting program. I’m currently sitting on a 2.8GPA, I know I could transfer after this current semester but what should my ideal GPA be coming into TCNJ? I will most likely finish off next semester before I apply to transfer. One last question, is there a waitlist for either the business administration or accounting programs and do you recommend me applying to transfer now or after next semester considering I’m most likely going to be done in brookdale spring 2013.

Hello, is it true that you only accept students in the top 15% of their class? I’m in in the top 20% but with a 2.9 UW GPA due to too many hard classes but am trying to make a comeback with a reasonable but still challenging senior year. Will I even have a chance? Thanks!

Hi Fadedmemories - Accounting is one of more popular majors for transfers at TCNJ. To be considered a competitive applicant for Accounting, we encourage students to have around a 3.4gpa. Since you a 2.8gpa, I would wait to apply for the Fall 2013 semester, so that your Fall 2012 grades will be part of the transcript we will review. In the case that we have more qualified students than spaces, we will on occassion offer a waitlist.

Hi Boponopo - No, that is not true at all. We review and admit students will all sorts of class rank. Most of our students are falling in the top 15% of their graduation calss, but not all.

Hello Admissions,

I just received my email saying that my application was received and that in 4-6 weeks, I will receive the “self-service” information in the mail. On the TCNJ website, it says that we receive that information in the mail as well as email. Will I be receiving an additional email with this information soon, or should I just wait for it to come in the mail?

Thanks,
psk314

Hi! I am currently a freshman at another 4 year school in New Jersey. I would like to try and transfer, the major reason for this is my current school does not offer my major. I was wondering what GPA you recommend transfers to have to be accepted in the nursing program? Since I would only have 16 credits completed the time I am applying as a transfer how much do you still look at high school, given I did we’ll at my college classes? And what is the acceptance rate for transfers into nursing? Thanks!!

Hi Admissions. I was hoping you could explain why you superscore the SAT and not the ACT. I know other state schools (Maryland, Delaware and UCONN) are superscoring and my concern is that students who are taking the ACT are at a disadvantage. A student who gets the same total score on the SAT three times can still have a significantly higher superscore. In our situation, my son’s superscored ACT equates to a 100 point differential when compared to SAT. I’m concerned how this difference may impact admission and merit scholarships. Thank you.

One Final question, lets say I’ll have a 3.0-3.2 transfering in TCNJ’s accounting program. My major classes’ grades are all B+ or better, most of my low grades are with random classes I took because I wasn’t sure what to major in, do you guys value that higher than my actual GPA or would GPA valued higher than my major classes?

Hi PSK314 - You will receive both an email and a US Post Mail with your self service log in infromation. Once you receive that information via either method, you will have to go into our web database to see the status of your application.

Hi Goldendog1 - Right now, we are unable to superscore the composite for the ACT. Unfortunately, I don’t have any reasoning behind that to provide you with.

Hi Fadedmemories - It’s hard to say exactly. We value both. Certainly we look closely at the grades in the classes that will relate directly to your major, but since TCNJ has a liberal learning core, all classes are important. As a TCNJ student, you would be taking classes in all the different disciplines, so your overall GPA is important.

Hi Piccio27. For our transfer students, you need to have a 2.5 GPA, but we recommend having at least a 3.0 to be considered competitve. Keep in mind, we are not accepting any transfer students in the spring for our Nursing Program.

Each year, the amount of students we see who apply as transfer students for each major and the seats we have available in each major vary greatly, making our acceptance rate for transfers difficult to assess and predict.

If you are applying with less than 45 credits, your SAT/ACT scores and HS transcript will play a factor in your transfer admissions decision. We will look more closely at your college transcript, but since there is not a lot of information to evaluate, we have to go back a little further.

Hi And12345. It’s hard to say how competitve an applicant might be until we are looking at the application. We take a holistic approach to reviewing applications so we can’t just look at your stats and chance you. The best thing to do would be to visit TCNJ and see how you feel about the school. If you think it’s a good fit, then make sure to communicate that in your application by highlighting all your achievements. We’ll get you a decision by April 1 if you apply regular decision.

I have a few questions pertaining to transfer. I am a current student at Brookdale and will apply to TCNJ for the fall 2013 semester by February 15th but I will be taking a few classes in the spring including business calc and accounting that may be beneficial to my application, is it recommended that I write my spring classes in somewhere on common app or are individual classes like that not very important to the application and wont be used against me.

Another question is that I will have 50 credits from Brookdale when I apply but on the njtransfer site it says that a couple of the classes I have taken do not transfer to TCNJ and they are 100 level classes. Do you consider which classes transfer and which don’t when you view applications and then subtract those from the credits earned at Brookdale since those classes don’t mean anything to TCNJ (So i would be viewed as having 44 credits). In that case if you do i would have below 45 credits and would need to submit standardized tests.

Finally, can a transfer student apply to go into interdisciplinary business, and how does that work. Thanks

Hi! does tcnj offer a double major in elementary education and sociology?
