Hi TCNJ admission staff,
I have applied as a biology major regular decision but received an email saying that I have not been accepted to this major and am given the chance to change majors. I have chosen another science major: physics, as I love sciences. Is there a possibility that I might be rejected from this major too? TCNJ has always been my first choice and the thought of being rejected makes me restless. I was ready to submit my application as ED but my parents didn’t want me to bind myself.
I also received an email about 10 days ago that had 3 questions optional to show why I was interested in TCNJ and how I am a different applicant. I still haven’t had the time to send the responses back due to the fact that last week was break and I was working 13 hours per day. Does the time it takes me to submit my respones factor into my interest in attending TCNJ? I am truly interested in attending and am just wondering if the admissions considers the time it takes for the applicant to send back the responses.
Thank you for your help!

Hi TCNJ

Many of the students I go to school with (NJ) recieved an email about switching their major for reconsideration. I did not recieve anything. (I applied for engineering). Does this mean I do have a good chance to be accepted into the program I applied for?

Thank you for your response! When do the scholarship letters usually go out for the out of state students?

Thanks for your response Add@TCNJ. I have a question about the Honors program notifications. My D has the criteria described in previous threads for Honors requirements. I am not sure if the Honors notification is included in acceptance package or if it is sent separately.

I applied for mechanical engineering, and recently switched my major to electrical.because it was “more available”. Will this benefit me ,even though the majors are in the same school ?

Dear AdmissStaffTCNJ - my son was accepted into TCNJ’s Honors Program. He is very excited and will be sending his papers back. However, I have a question regarding housing. In his letter it states that he will be going into Honors Housing. Can you tell me where Honors housing is located. I can’t find anything on the website. We have visited TCNJ on numerous occasions, but I don’t ever remember them talking about Honors housing. Thanks!

Hi AdmissStaffTCNJ,

When is the next admissions batch coming out for regular decision? Thanks!

Splitrock - About 70% of the students who enroll in Engineering as Freshman come back to Engineering their sophomore year, which is pretty typical with the rest of campus. TCNJ works hard to help our students find success after college so all of our programs help their students get involved with research, internships and pair them with advisers for their time here. More information about the unique types of opportunities for our Engineering students can be found on their website: [School of Engineering](<a href=“TCNJ | The College of New Jersey”>http://engineering.pages.tcnj.edu/)

Sayycheese – By switching your major, you are NOT guaranteed admissions to TCNJ. You will be put under a second review for that new major. We do not factor in the time it took for students to respond to those questions. We only look to see if they respond to them and the quality of their responses.

Brianna71834 – It could mean a variety of things. It could mean that the major you selected was not full; it could mean that your application has not been reviewed yet or it could mean that we have already made a decision on your application.

Emily0722 – Scholarship decision for our Out-of-State students will be sent out before the end of March.

Involvedparent3 – The application to apply for the Honors Program is sent separately. Keep in mind, however, that TCNJ is essentially a honors college. At larger universities, the honors program guarantees students small classes and classes all taught by faculty in addition to research opportunities. Those things are available to every student at TCNJ. Our average class size is about 20 - 23 students and there are no TA’s, making the opportunity for research at the undergraduate level very accessible.

TCNJdeferred – This will give us the opportunity to review you for a major that has more space.

2collegepllus1 – Our Residential Education and Housing Office has not determined where honors students will live next year. It will be among the rest of the freshman class. Honors students typically take an ‘honors’ FSP. Since student live with the other students in their FSP class and Residential Education and Housing will pair 3 or 4 ‘honors’ FSP’s on the same freshman floor, that floor becomes a ‘honors floor’. Other students in that same building may not be in the Honors Program.

Twink691 – We are making our way through all the applications. We will be sending out 2 more rounds of decisions over the next 4 weeks. All students will hear of a final decision by April 1.

When is the next batch of decisions going out I am aware that the deadline is Apr 1

All students will be notified by April 1st. We will most like be sending out 2 more waves of decisions before then.

A question about the admission process. Many of my D schoolmates were accepted back in February. How random is the process of decisions? Would it not be by school? How are the applicants separated? Also, is it true that only freshman are guarenteed housing? I have heard that if you live within a certain distance from the school, after your freshman year, you have to commute. Is this true?

Njmdar- Applications are read in no particular order. We try our best to notify students who apply earlier of their decisions earlier, but for a variety of reasons this is not always the case. All students will be hearing over the next 3 weeks.

No, that’s not true. All students are guaranteed housing for the first and second year. Junior and senior years, students are placed in a housing lottery. Most students who want to live on campus receive housing. Since Ewing is so residential, some students choose to live off campus in the surrounding community with friends. TCNJ is a residential campus, so most of our students live on campus.

Thank you very much for your reply. I have one more question about the notification process. I apologize, as I am sure this has been asked a million times. I understand that decision letters go out by April 1. Do they go out once a week in waves or on a daily basis as the decisions are made? Once the letter goes in the mai, will the decision will be posted on PAWS, regardless if accepted or denied? Thank you.

How are Honors program acceptances for RD incoming Crosby sent out? We’ve already received the acceptance letter with the merit scholarship amount, but nothing about Honors.

Hi I am a hs junior who wants to apply Ed. I know how important class rank is to tcnj but my school does not officially rank per say. However we were told that NHL in our school requires you to be in the top twenty percent of our class. They told us the cutoff for the top twenty and top ten percent and I fall under the top 10. Can I technically put top 10 on my application? Or will tcnj call my school to find out where I rank. Either way rank is one of my stronger points and hope that tcnj wil get that information in some way. I am just wondering if I can put it down???

Sorry I meant nhs not nhl

njmdar- FYI - my son’s acceptance was available on PAWS a couple of days before he received the official acceptance letter in the mail. For a long time the message on PAWS was the same, then one day it all of a sudden said he was accepted to his program of choice! I can’t say about a message change if an applicant is not accepted, though, and I am sure the mail time varies depending on where each student lives, but we are NW NJ and that is what happened for him.

Good luck!

Thank you j9btdh-we have been anxiously waiting for some type of news…we will keep checking paws…

njmdar - Acceptance decisions are not sent out every week. We will be notifying all the students who have not heard a final decision right before April 1st. Only acceptances are visible in PAWS after the acceptance packet has been placed in the mail.

mtown27 - Honors Program invitations are attached to our top two scholarships. Additionally, students are given the opportunity to join the Honors Program during their sophomore year on campus if not originally offered an application at the time of admissions. If you would like to discuss your personal application to The College and the honors program, I encourage you to call our Scholarship Hotline: 609.771.3239.

Northeaster123 - In order for us to use your rank in the Admissions process, we will have to see it officially reported in either your transcript or in the recommendation letter from the guidance counselor. Self reported information on the Common Application is not used in determining admissions or scholarship unless it is followed up with official documentation. Since your rank is high, we will most likely be able to deduce that information by reviewing your course selection and grades using the information provided in your school’s profile. School profiles contain information about the school’s population as well as classes and services offered and accompany each transcript that the school sends out.

Hello again!
I was offered to change my major since biology is full and is physics just as competitive to get accepted to? are there enough available seats?
also how about computer science? thank you so much
