Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

Daughter is accepted for fall 2013. Will be doing varsity sport. How is the varsity athlete gym? I only saw the fitness gym and thought it was quite small and under equiped. Are there any plans to expand/renovate/new athletics and or recreation gyms.

Any comments about TCNJ Engineering and its Football PGM are appreciated.

My S is in and we are excited.

Lets hope some Merit Money comes too.

hi! I am looking to apply as a transfer for spring 2014 as a sophomore

would the fact that I had to retake a class lessen my chances of being accepted if my overall gpa is a 3.4? The class i had to retake was not in my major.

are less people accepted for the spring semesters than fall?

and since i would have 31 college credits completed would you look at my entire high school transcript or just the last two years?

Also is a 3.4 gpa competitive for being accepted in the elementary education program in sociology, especially if all my education and sociology grades are B+ and above?

Thanks, hope you can answer my questions!

My daughter is a junior and planning to apply to TCNJ in the fall. My son is currently a freshman at TCNJ (and loves it!) and she has been to the campus many times and even attended the information session/tour when my son went knowing she was looking for herself too. However, she was not registered herself for the sessions. Does she need to do an official tour so admissions sees she has shown interest or is the fact that her brother is there and shown her the ins and outs already ok.
Thanks!

collegerox2013- The majors that have seats available and you could potentially be admitted into are the ones on that list we sent you. I am not sure if Physics or Computer Science are listed. If they are not listed, that means they are full.

Sportsman29 - I personally have never been into the varsity gym, but I hear that it is quite nice. In addition to a large grant to renovate our athletic center that we recently got, the Campus Town project will most likely include a gym that TCNJ students can use. For more on Campus Town, click here: [Campus Town Project](http://campustown.pages.tcnj.edu/)

wtped64 - Congratulations! Because of the small classes and undergraduate focus, TCNJ Engineers have a lot of opportunities for undergraduate research, internships and co-ops. We see them working with big name companies like Ernst and Young, Bristol Meyers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson. I encourage you and your son to attend Accepted Students Day to learn more details about each of these programs and possibly take a tour of the facilities. A lot of different faculty members and athletic staff (as well as plenty of students) will be on hand to answer all your questions.

OXCgirl1029 - All those factors will come into play. If you only have 31 credits when you apply both your HS transcript and SAT/ACT score may play a small role in your decision. With transfer admissions, the competitiveness of each major depends on that individual semester. Each year, a few weeks before we start reading transfer applications we learn how many seats we have available in each major for transfers and a full count of how many students are applying. Since both of these numbers vary greatly from semester to semester, it is impossible to predict how competitive it will be for Elementary Education + Sociology next year.

NJxcdrmom- I would have her come back and take an official tour. If she never signed in for those tours with the Admissions Office we have no way of knowing that she was there. We will see that her brother is a current student, but we will not assume that she has made an official visit.

Is there a place on the TCNJ website that lists some of the companies that offer internships to TCNJ students?

Hi TCNJ. I recieved an offer to change my major from biomedical engineering. Based on the options available, I chose electrical engineering. Will all decisions be coming out next week? Do I have a better chance now to get into this new program?

My daughter was academically dismissed from TCNJ last year. She enrolled in community college and will be graduating with her AA this summer with a 3.9 GPA. She applied for readmission to TCNJ for the fall. She submitted her readmission application about a month ago. When might she receive a decision? And realistically what are her chances? Thank you for any information you can offer

Hi–I haven’t heard anything yet and am starting to be concerned–should I be?

Hi TCNJ Admissions Staff,
I visited campus for the second time today and loved it! However, I am a little concerned about college costs- my family does not have a huge amount of money saved for me for college, and according to FAFSA prediction websites we won’t qualify for financial aid (although I will still apply for it). I have been enrolled in all honors courses throughout and have high SAT scores (770 math, 650 reading, which im working on). Because I am in challenging classes, I am only ranked in the top 10-15% of my class in HS. Does this mean that I would not qualify for a merit scholarship? I have never received a final grade lower than a B+ and have a lot of leadership and volunteer work.
Thank you for a great Junior Visit Day-
KG

Hi,
Could you please provide me with the email address of someone who would be able to answer very specific questions I have regarding internship opportunities at TCNJ? Thank you so much!

Hi Jdog1202 - You can follow this link to our One Year Out Survey and see where our students are working one year after graduation. It also provides the information broken out by school and major if you would like to sort that way. [TCNJ Year-Out Surveys | The Career Center at TCNJ](<a href=ā€œTCNJ | The College of New Jerseyā€>TCNJ | The College of New Jersey)

Hi Brianna71834 - yes, we are finalizing all of our decisions and every student will hear with a final decision by April 1st. Those letters will come via US Post and are timed so they are in your mailbox on April 1.

Momtogreatkid/rlacrane - Decisions will be coming out over the next few days so you should not be concerned. That is normal.

Momtogreatkid - I can not rate chances over CC. Decisions will be out very soon!

College2014kg- When looking to award merit scholarship for our in-state students we are looking at only our two factors - SAT (out of 1600) and class rank. We look to our admitted student averages and award above (1300/1600 and top 10%). We do take into consideration the HS that a student attends if it is known as one of the top NJ high schools. I’m glad you enjoyed the Junior Visit Day!

Justsmile1 - You can email our general Admissions Account (admiss@tcnj.edu) and we’ll connect you with a counselor via email.

Thank you for responding to me. I was actually wondering if you have a list of employers that offer summer internships to TCNJ students.

Hello again, does TCNJ require the final transcript to be sent at the end of the school year?

Also, we’ve received some information about financial aid and in that booklet there was a mention of the first year commuting students not being allowed to use the on-site parking.
Is this true?

Thanks very much.

Emily.

Hi Jdog1202. I do not have a printed list for you.

Emily0722 - Yes we do. Typically, the HS Guidance Offices will send these off without being prompted. All commuters, regardless of year, are given the opportunity to by a commuter parking pass and park on campus.

I’m sure this question has been asked in the thread but I didn’t find it with google and I don’t have the heart to view all 40 pages, so my apologies if this is repetitive:

HOW and WHEN will in-state, regular-decision scholars like myself find out about merit scholarships? If we are not receiving any scholarship, we will be told this? I have not filed a FAFSA, will this affect my ability to receive merit scholarships?

Thanks!

I did not receive federal work study through TCNJ. Would I still be able to be employed on campus?

I just received an e-mail about Accepted Students Day and was browsing the Join the Pride page and saw that Fall Registration is from April 2 through April 12. Is that for incoming Freshman also? It says that there will be a late fee for undergraduate students who don’t register by April 14th.

Hi. I have not received a letter that my application is in second review. However, I have not heard yet. Is this bad?

Thank you very much as always!
