Ask an Admissions Counselor - TCNJ

Hi tcnj. I was recently waitlisted. I do intend to have the committee continue to look over my appliction. When will they notify me of the final decision?

It was a bit shocking when I got a letter from TCNJ for my D who is now not being admitted. Instead she is put on the waitlist.
She has good stats. But anyway, I have the same question like you.
I wonder if is it worthy to wait since most student on waiting list won’t have an answer until June. In the meantime, you must send a deposit for the school at which accepts you, and the deposit amount is quite few hundred or more…
If anybody has answer, please give us some lights.

4/2-12 fall reg is for current students

Thank you Sportsman

Same boat here - D on the waitlist with the other schools asking for their deposits. Will a final decision ultimately come?

Was wondering how much athletics is part of the decision process as one of her peers was accepted with lower scores, class rank, etc., but is one of NJ’s top football players?

^ I recall, at an admissions session with my son at Lafayette, that athletics is always a big consideration, even at schools with lower tier DI or even DIII programs. TCNJ puts a lot of emphasis on athletics for a DIII, so I strongly suspect this plays a role in the admission decision.

Even though none of my four kids are likely to be varsity athletes, I can see the point. Many college administrators, with some justification, feel that competitive, winning teams bring a strong sense of campus unity and pride.

when do umdnj decisions come out for the combined ba/md program?

Samzkulesa – About half of our in-state students will hear with their acceptance letter if they have received merit scholarship. Those are the students whose high schools report rank on their transcripts. The other half will hear within 2 to 3 weeks of their acceptance letter if they are receiving merit scholarship. Merit scholarship for in-state students is based off of your SAT/ACT scores and class rank (1300/1600 on the SAT or 29 on the ACT & top 10% of graduation class). The FAFSA has no bearing on your merit scholarship you receive. There is no notification if you are not receiving merit aid.

Neverxclarity – Sure. We see our students work in all areas of campus and so there are more jobs available than those who have work study.

Jdog1202- No, that is not for our new students. You will be receiving a communication from our Records & Registration Office and Department Chair in the early summer giving you instructions on how to select your preferences for your FSP and what other classes you will be taking in the fall. You will be scheduled by Records & Registration for the fall semester and during Orientation, you will have the opportunity to have a faculty member review your schedule and make any changes that are necessary.

Mimi2095- That’s okay that you did not receive a second review letter. You should have received a decision in the mail by now. If you have not, please call the Admissions Office at 609.771.2131.

Brianna71834 – The wait list is a bit unpredictable. In years past, we’ve been able to notify students anywhere between the middle of April and as late as the middle of July. When we decide to close the wait list, we will notify all students who have been placed on the wait list that we are closing it.

Thecats & CVJake- I would encourage you to wait until the end of April to send your deposit elsewhere. If we have the opportunity to pull students off the wait list before May 1, we will certainly try to do so. Most students, however, will be hearing after May 1. If TCNJ still remains your top choice and you have the means to potentially double deposit (deposit at another college/university just before May 1 and then in the case that you are pulled from the wait list, deposit at TCNJ later) than I would encourage you to return your wait list reply card.

CVJake- We are a DIII school, so coaches can put in a recommendation, but ultimately, it is up to the Admissions Office to do a holistic review of the applicant to determine if they would be a good fit for TCNJ and if we have a spot for them.

Hcarmingkarma – The 7 year medical program decisions will be coming out in the next few weeks. Ultimately, that decision is made by UMDNJ and so the TCNJ Admissions Office has a very small role in those decisions or their timeline. You should have heard from our office regarding a decision for your second choice major.

Wailtisted -____-
When is the tenitive date for final decisions applied ed in November and still no decision …

Just wondering if there is wifi available in every classroom? I’m deciding whether I need to purchase an IPAD with 3G or if I can get away with just the WIFI model. Thanks.

When can we expect a decision on ReAdmission application?

Hi TCNJDeferred - Unfortunately, there is no timeline for our WL students. In year’s past, we’ve been able to pull students from the WL as early as April but as late as July. We will send a notification when we close the WL and determine that we will not be able to pull any more students from it. That will be sometime this summer.

Jdog1202 - Yes, there is wifi in every classroom.

Momtogreatkid - I just spoke with our transfer department who handles Re-admissions and they said if the student applied for the fall, they will hear by the end of June.

CAMPUS TOWN- What the deal??

Attended accepted student day yesterday. All the school reps were really talking about Campus Town and talking about how great it will be. I agree this would be a great addition and attraction for new students and benefit to the school and the community.
Googled it and this has been in the works for over 2 years and groud breaking is already delayed 7-8 months from the previous reschedule. The last thing that I could find was an article in the school paper reporting that the demo permit hold up and contract signing with Barnes and Noble is pending (Jan. 2013). Not sure why issue wiht BN as they already occupy the bookstore and is a no-brainer-moneymaker. Especially, if you add a reading section and coffee shop to the new bookstore.
Are Ewing residents unhappy with the plan? Is Ewing Twnshp making the college jump through hoops? Is there a wetland or other environmental issue?
What is causing the continued delays?

Hi,
I am really interested in TCNJ’s chemistry program. Can you please tell me how many students get into it and what is their average stats. I am also confused about the GPA scale that TCNJ uses. I was told that TCNJ applicants have an average GPA of a 3.4-3.5 is this on a weighted scale or unweighted? For example my school uses a weighted scale where honors classes are out of 4.5 and AP classes are out of 5.Thanks :)

Dear AdmissstaffTCNJ: We also attended accepted student’s day on Sunday. Although we were very happy overall, there are a few things that I have to comment on. My S was accepted into the Honors Program. We were a bit disappointed that we could not get in to see the Honors Housing. Also a bit disappointing to hear that they will be housed in Norsworthy. Why not give the Honors Students Cromwell Hall or as you previously posted house them in Travers just have different floors for Honors? I understand that Cromwell was just redone and why not entice your Honors student with great housing. NEU gives them great housing in International Village. Just a thought. My oldest S attends a different University and he was also housed far away from Freshmen housing his freshmen year and he does feel that he missed out by not being close to the other Freshmen. Although he’s very happy where he is and made great friends, he wishes he would have been closer to Freshmen housing. Just had to comment. I also heard that Campus Town would not be completed until 2015 - that too was a bit disappointing.

Hi AdmissStaffTCNJ,

When will students who have been placed on the second review list for merit scholarships be notified? Thanks!

Sportsman29 – The last the greater campus community heard about the hold for Campus Town was the same article you were referencing. There has been talk that ground will break soon and the new estimated completion date will be 2015. Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information than the public

Livesoxxs – Each year, the chemistry program looks to enroll about 20 students. This year, chemistry happened to be one of our more competitive majors and so the students who were accepted were falling in the upper half of our SAT middle 50% (which is 1220-1380 out of 1600). TCNJ does not recalculate GPA, so I’m not sure where you heard those numbers from. We look at class rank, when provided, and individual grades in the core classes. We like to see students who have a high B to an A in honors and AP classes. Typically, our admitted students are in the top 10% of their graduation class.

2Collegeplus1 – I’m glad to hear you had an overall positive experience with our Accepted Students Day(ASD) and appreciate you sharing your feedback. This year, our Freshman lived in the towers in addition to Norsworthy, Allen, Brewster and Ely. Those students who were living in Norsworthy had the company of about 400 other freshman residents right next door and their friends in the towers are not far off. Because of the volume of visitors that we have during the Accepted Students Day and agreements that we have our Residential Education and Housing Office, we only are able to showcase the towers during ASD. I can assure you that the rooms in Norsworthy are comparable to those in the towers. It is true that in years past, honors students in honors FSPs have lived in Cromwell, but my understanding is that next year, no freshman will live in Cromwell and that will be considered an upperclassman dorm.

Oconno –If you just spoke with the Merit Scholarship Coordinators in the last few days, you will be hearing in a week. .

@AdmissStaffTCNJ: I was quite sock and then a bit upset that my D was put on the waiting list. Her SAT 1380 out of 1600. Her GPA 3.94. She got A’s and B’s in honors and AP classes.
When we received a letter/email to ask her to change a major from Chemistry to another one; she thought that she changed to E.E, she would have a high chance to be accepted, but she was not. Why TCNJ did not suggest the major for my D , so we would have a chance to consider whether or not it fit to my D’s interest.
Up to this point, we wish to know what are weak points that my D was put in the waiting list.

Is it still possible to transfer for fall 2013? We are attending Friday’s open house for transfers.

Hey,
I have a question, I applied to TCNJ as a biology major originally, and because of the limited class sizes they asked me to switch to English as it was my alternate major. I still want to be a biology major by the time I enroll into my fall semester, is there any way I can still take classes that biology majors would take as an English Major.
