How are OOS students treated at OSU lol? Not only that, I’m Asian…how are minorities treated there? I hope I don’t sound dumb for asking this, I am from New York City and it’s very diverse compared to Columbus. >.< I’m nervous about heading out to the Midwest but OSU seems like a great school (and the city it’s in).

Hey chickenbob, I’m not the guy answering questions here but let me just give you my 2 cents. First of all, OSU has a lot of OOS students and no one will think less of you for not being from Ohio.

As for being Asian, once you come here you’ll quickly realize that OSU has a LOT of Asians… and not just Asian Americans, the vast majority of our international student body is from East Asia (which is awesome for me because I’m a Chinese major). If you’re interested, the reason for this is because OSU recently opened up a Gateway office in Shanghai, attracting tons of Chinese students; our reputation in China is really good. OSU has tons of clubs for Asian students (for China alone there are 20 different clubs). So yeah, don’t worry. :P

Oh, and as for how you’ll be treated, the people here are amazingly nice so I can assure you that you’ll have no problems. OSU is an extremely diverse school, racism really isn’t tolerated.

@Fizban88 Thanks a lot! lol I feel better about OSU =) Oh even if there are Asians, I would relate to the ones from America more XD

Hello, I am a recent accepted transfer oos from California. I would like to know how to check the classes that were accepted as transferable, housing situations, financial aid situations, and also attendance to orientation.

Thank You

@chickenbob

“There are tons of cool Asians at C-bus! You will certainly enjoy your time at TOSU,” says former President of 3 Asian student organizations on campus (me) - but I was international. You should perhaps start by joining the Asian American Association:

G’Luck & Go Bucks!! :)

Oh and how would you compare the city life of Columbus to New York City? I’m not into drinking and partying so I’m wondering would there be enough things for me to do and interests beyond the campus and in nightlife XD

^^ NYC is much more congested, and people mostly travel via subway, whereas Columbus is not as crowded and the city is cleaner in general. Also, most students travel either by bus or car if not walking. Unlike NYC, Columbus is very tOSU centric in terms of activities; however, there are certain numerous places to see and enjoy around the city neighborhoods.

Here is a very good series of videos regarding to Columbus arts & entertainments that I think you should watch:

Enjoy & Welcome to C-bus!! :)

Do you have any suggestions for meeting your Gen Ed requirement for Biological Sciences for someone who dislikes Biology? Thanks!

I have committed to OSU about three weeks ago. Still haven’t received any housing information. I do live in California however… Is there any reason why I haven’t got anything regarding housing?

Same question as soldier…about how many weeks after deposit we can expect housing info??

I don’t remember exactly when they sent out the deposit papers(maybe Feb?) but I paid mine the very next day and just got my housing stuff two weeks ago. My orientation registration is also online right now.

woww rediculouss i sent mine in in like february. Alright time to call admissions office. and yeah i got the orientation thing on my application status as well now.

Can you actually sign up for registration now on line, or can you just see the dates? S can see dates, but since we haven’t received housing and orientation mailing yet, we can’t see anything that will let S sign up yet.

I was able to sign up yesterday evening for earliest scholars date that matched my major (June 18-19). Today, they sent me an email saying that my orientation mailing would be sent out by the end of the week but then gave some links to view it online.

Mine just let me sign up on Buckeyelink. In fact, I haven’t been officially notified of it, I just happened to be checking if the financial aid ha been posted and saw the orientation info. The earliest I got was 06/28. Same thing with housing, I checked housing.osu.edu/contract and the contract was there but I have yet to get an email. I sent my deposit at the end of February.

How hard/easy is it to maintain a 3.5 GPA at Ohio State?

That absolutely depends on your major and intellectual abilities. The average GPA varies a lot by major, so a 3.5 in engineering or math is fairly good, while a 3.5 in psychology or communications is maybe average or below average.

I am an honors student in finance, and have never had below a 3.5–professors for business classes tend to hand out a lot of As and Bs, with Cs and Ds only if you really aren’t trying, or really messed up on something. Easy GECs also help to get your GPA high- there’s no reason you should get below an A- (3.7) in nearly all GEC classes if you show up and do the work.

If you need that 3.5 to keep your scholarship, most scholarship recipients find it doable. A bad freshman year might be hard to come back from, so I would schedule a lighter 1st semester to make sure you can handle the work and the adjustment to college life.

Whateverhappens
Where did you see that in Buckeyelink?

I’m not sure if they haven’t posted for my son yet, or if we aren’t looking at the right place.

Do you have an opinion on whether or not a freshman should have a car if he lives on campus? His grandparents and some family live in Erie, PA - so he may drive there or I suppose he could take the bus. He can drive (about 12 hours) or fly home for longer holidays.

Drawbacks to having a car? Benefits?

Thanks

Could anyone tell me about the criminology program? Do you know anyone in it, rigor, reputation, etc.?
