My current SAT is 1840 M;660 W630E;10 V550, i am an indonesian, with australian qualification scored of 83%/100%. What kind of univ that stand a good chance for me in US ?

Percentages are always out of 100. No need of 84%/100%. Chances depens on which univ you want to apply in and if you need fin. aid.

i am currently confuse, since i want to choose between engineering or busines… do u know any schools good for engineering or business, that seems eligible for me ?

you will definately have to up your score by A LOT if u need financial aid

SAT score ?// … just forget the financial aid first

I can’ think of any Engg School at this school, Just get you score upto 2100-2200 and then apply to prude, they accept anyone within that range that doesn’t asks for aid.

abhishiv, u need to be more welcoming on this forum…its the USP of this place…

levin…u might need to bump ur SAT scores a bit,2000-2100 is fair…do take SAT 2’s as well Physics , Maths II n Chem will help for engineering…

u can apply to state schools(no aid possible here) like GaTech,UT Austin,Purdue,UIUC…then theyre the privates like swarthmore etc and then the likes of cornell,CMU etc etc

as for ur other option i frankly dont know…

2000… is not a bit… UT Austin is hard to enter …for international students isn’t it ?

hehe well nothing is easy buddy, nothing at all…

Well levin, it is hard to get into UT but at the same time it is easier to get into than few other colleges. There isn’t much of a diff between your score and mine. They look a lot at your SAT score so make sure you give another try and aim for a 2000 atleast.

Other choices than UT austin and Purdue…

Your scores kinda limit your choices, and esspecially because youre international

levin343, will you be applying from an Indonesian HS?

I’m an Indonesian, and last year I applied from a local HS. I know how the information scarcity regarding US colleges could really mess up things.

PM me, I might be able to give you some pointers to boost your chances.

Can I ask for some advice too?? I got 590W, 710M, 740CR… Im a Malaysian studying for my A-levels… Is this good enough to qualify for aid and ANY schools? Or do you think I should retake?

Your score doesn’t preclude you from getting into and receiving aid from any school. But it certainly doesn’t help you. My point is that just an SAT score is not enough to decide whether you will get in anywhere. If you have a very strong application otherwise, SAT scores can’t hurt you that much. If you got a GPA of 2.0, 2400 won’t get you Harvard either. But irregardless, it doesn’t hurt to get a higher score. Your Math and CR are okay but Writing is a tad low (though I understand how ridiculous the new writing curve can be sometimes…), so I think you might want to retake it if you have the time.

haha woebegone, sorry for being an*l, but just wanted to point out there’s no such word as “irregardless”. regardless is regardless, and not irregardless!

@lils88 : You got a 740 in CR, I think that if you put in some effort you could easily get a 700+ in Writing. Give the SAT another shot, getting a good SAT score is very essential if you need aid.

Yeah… but what if I got lower marks… Im actually a bit surprised with my results bcos I usually get 600++ in the blue book

Don’t worry, just study harder and retake,i will be re-taking soon, well, you should also concentrate on your A-lvls. Just in case you dun get into any Unis in US… another alternative is apply to second or third tier uni and ask for aid, apparently the states’ average student are not as smart as we thought so,( at least not academically) But i believe you’re not aiming for the lower-tier schools.
FIY. A-lvls is highly regarded even in the US,so better maintain good grades, your freshman year will be doing almost the same thing you’re doing in your Alvls now… believe me, if you’re hardworking, you can finish their syllabus in 2-3years time… and SAT is not everything, trust me, i have friends who get in Princeton and Northwestern, Interview and Essays is much more important, of course the most that matters is WHO YOU ARE…and how you present yourself… : ) good luck, if you’re applying for fall 2007, we will be counterparts! : ) ((ererer getting my alvls result soon…erere…))
