Ask me anything

Tahoe23 and DJ2012, I’m not actually sure if there is any way to live at Tempe and attend classes at downtown legitimately. I know if you’re a freshman, they prefer you live at the campus that your major is located on.

While I don’t advise this, I would say that changing your major to something that is located on Tempe, and then changing your major once you’ve moved in is the best idea. They won’t move you once you’ve moved in, so you should be set. As far as sophomore year is concerned, I believe that ResLife lets you live wherever you’d like your sophomore year (since there aren’t that many options for upper-level housing).

Rolando4, Cronkite does have slightly higher requirements for admission. However, all students who meet the criteria are accepted.

“To be eligible for admission to the journalism school, entering freshmen must have a minimum 3.0 ABOR high school GPA AND no English competency deficiencies (four years of English) AND meet one of the following criteria: an SAT reasoning score of at least 1040 OR an ACT score of at least 22.” (From the Cronkite website).

Ok, so if I switch that major to a Business one to live on Tempe, then not get accepted to the business school, will that mess up my acceptance?

how’s the business school in ASU?

I also got offer from northeastern and am waitlisted at Emory and Rochester…my brother’s in ASU though…any advise??..

thanks.

How are the people at asu? are they really stupid and immature or is there a wide variety of people?

What is pre med like at ASU? Is pre med good? Do you know anyone who is doing pre med there?

I kind of messed up freshman year and I’ve been trying to recover ever since. Anyway, I go to Brophy College Prep, an all boys jesuit school in Arizona (i don’t know if that will help me in getting into Barrett, but there you have it). I’m a junior now, and I took the SAT and got a 1970 (630 reading, 690 math, 650 writing) (no studying). I plan on retaking it after studying and getting a 2100+ with 700+ in reading and math.

So with that info, and these stats, what do you think my chances are?

SAT: 1970/2400
GPA: 3.6 Unweighted, 3.9 weighted

Clubs:
Speech and debate (varsity member, co-captain, participated in all of high school)
National Honors Society
Spanish Honors Society
Diplomatic Corp. (shadow program)

Volunteer Work:
Over 100 hours at TeenLifeline (and counting) (basically I’m a counselor)
Spent 80 hours tutoring children over a summer
Kino Border Initiative (went to mexico to work at a soup kitchen for 1 night)
Other small things that probably add to around 30-40 hours of work

Awards:
Has won multiple debate tournaments
3rd at State this year
Co-Champion at the National Qualifier and qualified to nationals.

Honors and AP classes:

Freshman year–Honors english, Honors Geometry, Honors Chemistry

Sophomore year-- AP Biology, Honors English 2, Honors Algebra 2 (Got a 3 on the AP bio exam)

Junior year–AP English 3, AP Physics B, AP US History, Honors Spanish 3, Honors Pre-Calc

Senior year tentative schedule: AP English 4, AP Chemistry, AP Econ/Gov, AP Calc AB, Honors Spanish 4, AP Psychology

and that’s a basic outline. I also plan on starting my own club next year (a cooking club) and hopefully that helps as well.

gradeAbowler8, you have a really, really good chance of getting into Barrett. You have a stellar academic record. Make sure you mention your volunteering and keep up your awesome grades. I’d say that Barrett would be missing out if they didn’t accept you! Good luck!

Hi, I was wondering if students with degrees from ASU generally get into good graduate schools? Do you know any former ASU students who have gone on to reputable graduate schools?

I’m planning on attending ASU/Barrett Honors College, as a nursing major (go on to become Nurse Practitioner). Since I am out of state, I may decide to go work in Maryland, or do my post-grad work in a different state. I was hoping that this school has a good enough reputation to not screw things up for me?

I’ve worked pretty hard in high school (4.0, AP classes, etc.) and I don’t want to jeopardize my chances of being employable by attending ASU (which has lower requirements for entry, etc.)

Thanks so much for any feedback you can give! I appreciate it!

apstudent12345, I don’t think that a degree from ASU is any less valuable than a degree from any other school. ASU may have its reputation to the public, but to the academic world, it’s easily as valid as any other state school. That being said, if you get a 4.0 in college, you go a 4.0 in college and it doesn’t really matter where you completed your undergrad.

DJ2012, apply to the business school as a BA concentration. The requirements for the BA in Business are the same as ASU’s.

MissGalaxy, I’m a business student here at ASU and I absolutely love it. WP Carey is ranked consistently for having great programs and heavy recruitment. I think the greatest thing to consider when applying to schools like Northeastern and Emory is cost. ASU’s WP Carey has a fantastic ROI, since it is a state school. As far as business is concerned, I don’t think you can go wrong with any of your choices.

kevinnguyen134, there are tons of people at ASU, which basically means you’ll meet any type of person you want to. I will say I seem to run into a lot of people who are derpy, but all in all, those people will filter away once you enter your upper division classes. ASU has a way of sifting through the people who really want to be here.

dancechick16, pre med at ASU isn’t exactly the best in the state, but they are definitely working on it. ASU is teaming up with U of A to offer more health sciences courses and programs. That’s about as much as I know about it though.

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with the dorming situation.

I may be attending ASU for the Fall 2013. I will be majoring in Computer Engineering which I know is automatically put into either PV East or PV Main.

My question is: Am I going to get stuck with the typical Engineering “creepy weird guys” and “no attractive girls” because I’m partyer and I love the social life. Don’t get me wrong, I have a strong GPA and very high SAT scores and can balance my love for parties and drinking with my academics.

And, for anyone with experience. Which one of the dorms would be better for my kind of scene, if there is any difference between the two. PV East or PV Main. (I heard the party is at Hassy, but too bad ASU is strict with Majors and Dorms going hand in hand.)

Thanks oxolojo! One thing that I regret is that I should have applied for the financial aid. My brother told me it’s really hard to get any financial aid, so I didn’t apply for it…

I was just wondering has anyone been denied by the My ASU system and then actually got in because I know the system will automatically deny you if you do not fulfill the requirements but you still have a chance. That is what they told me, so I was wondering if that happened to anyone. Thanks.

Hi(: Do you anything about the nursing program at ASU? Is it good? Do you know anyone who likes it? Thanks.

how do ap credits get transferred onto your college transcript?

I get that you usually only get credit if you get a 4/5 on the exam, but my question is if you get a 4 on the exam, do you get a B on your college transcript? or what happens in terms of your grade?

gradeAbowler8, this webpage <a href=“Academic Catalog | Arizona State University”>Academic Catalog | Arizona State University; has all the info you should need about AP score transfers. They just show up as credit, not as any sort of GPA information.
