To your point regarding a mosque, are you suggesting that influences campus culture?, my point regarding LDS was that ‘it does’ affect and promote the ‘conservative’ culture on campus. I have never heard anyone suggest Muslim’s on campus do the same. Are you anti-diversity are you against people of color or those that do not look like you? you might be on thin ice there @Celesteroberts! I think the political bias here should end here.

Lets all agree to offer perspective and insight born of campus culture and experiences (bias’s) to enable students and their families make the right choices for them, in their search for the 'right college".

:-/ I must have phrased my last post very badly. The point of mentioning the mosque was to emphasize the diversity of religions and religious views present on campus. I was thinking of the mosque as a ‘church’ in the word’s wider sense. ASU also has a secular student group: http://www.secularstudents.org/

All kinds of people. Nope, not anti-diversity. I admit to being anti-Republican, if I’m anything, in the Republican party’s current incarnation at any rate.

Really?? An “operative”? Now you really are sounding paranoid!

I fail to see how any of this is a “fact”

You certainly have not given me or anyone else here any reason to trust you! Just the opposite in fact…

25% of ASU students are out-of-state and therefore are not classified as ASU residents and I would assume most of those do not vote in Arizona. And not all the in-state students are Tempe residents/voters either! You can argue all you want about how you know everything about Arizona because you live there but the link I posted to the survey of conservative campuses is based on the opinions of many students around the country. It is not my opinion so what I did know or did not know and my own residence is completely irrelevant. Your opinions are still and always will be those of one extremely biased anti-ASU person. Maybe YOUR political bias and vendetta against ASU students should disappear from here.

As far as your hiring practices being all about judging ASU students based on the leanings of a few, doesn’t your company find it very odd that you are so anti-ASU but you continue to take their money by working for them? If your company is so desirable that it pays so well to non-Arizona students why do you feel so compelled to stay in a second job you so detest? Most companies would find it quite disturbing to have an employee constantly bad-mouthing any of their employers, not to mention a teacher incessantly bashing his own students.

And the insult to @celesteroberts was totally unwarranted!

I love teaching and enjoy adjunct, I don’t do it for the $$$, I can assure you. I would not bad mouth an employee who went to ASU, not at all. I think we are all getting a little biased here, perhaps we should all desist comment political. Perhaps you are right some of my factoids are 'conjecture/perception; apologies, but perception they are.

Well, this conversation is very interesting and enlightening in many ways. I guess @Englishman wants people to be aware that ASU is very conservative, in his opinion. Good to know that. Then, again, @celesteroberts and @STEMfamily seem to be reasonable people with citations/links to back up what they say. It’s just a little troubling when one person seems so much against a university, constantly posting negative things. But my S is considering ASU, so it’s good for me to know that there might be very conservative people there. I probably care about that more than he does. But, as a NM scholar at OU said to me, she’s sometimes surprised by how conservative people can be in Oklahoma, but she’s determined to learn from that, to try to understand their perspectives, and maybe try to help change policies there.

hey I’m from socal as well. I wanted to ask you if you have to pay out-of-state tuition because WUE doesnt cover the Tempe campus? I really want to live in tempe but it’s so much more expensive becuz theres no WUE. I heard you can get other scholarships that would make it cheaper but I don’t know if they’re guaranteed. Can you please tell me how you ended up living in tempe? thank you!

You put in your unweighted GPA/class rank and SAT/ACT test scores and get an estimate. Looks like it is a sliding scale based on some combination of test scores and Arizona Core GPA. The maximum is 13000/yr (unless you are a National Merit or National Hispanic Scholar) and the estimator is actually a total cost estimator, ie it shows the tuition/fees as well as the scholarship. Note that some schools (for example Engineering) due have tuition surcharges or additional fees that are not reflected in the numbers on the estimator. These aren’t necessarily guaranteed but they have been accurate in my experience. You do want to make sure you get your application submitted before the priority deadline and as soon as possible in September if you want to apply to Barrett (which is another $1000 additional fee.)

Elisebear, ASU is my absolute dream school. I would give anything to go to Barrett, but am afraid I don’t have the stats. If you could please tell me how soon after you applied did your application become “under review”? How long after that were you accepted? Also, would you mind checking out my stats and telling me if I would be able to make it into Barrett. Thank you!!!

Hi, I just got accepted to the Barrett Honors College as a freshman for the fall of 2015. Can you go into more depth with the social scene at Barrett? I’m a very serious and hard-working student and always get good grades but I would like to “go out” once in a while. I like to party occasionally. Do students go to Mill Avenue? Do the freshman tend to bond and know each other? My older brother is a freshman at a different school and everyone on his floor knows each other and loves each other. They all study and party together. When I visited him, I loved this aspect of college and hope it is present at Barrett. Barrett is an extraordinary honors school and I am so happy to be a part of it. I just don’t want to not have a social life while at Barrett. What do you think?
I know this an old thread, but I hope you are still answering.
I got into Penn state and Barrett/Leaders Academy. Everyone tells me to go to Penn state bc of the name and better recruitment. Do you have a reason why I should join ASU instead. I plan to major in CIS/MIS and Penn state was ranked #2 for recruiter preference in the WSJ.
i’m looking for my daughter, and i was astounded alcohol and drug arrests for on/off campus for ASU. I used the US News and World Reports premium web site. You are very wise and mature to cut your losses and get out of Dodge quick.
@elisebear - Will I be at a disadvantage when compared to Fall 2016 freshmen if I choose to attend ASU in Spring 2016, as an international student? Do you have any stats on when more international freshmen attend ASU, Spring or Fall?
