Ask Mike

Time to procrastinate a bit more. I’m halfway done with my Bio final work. I just have to write a paper. I hope it doesn’t take me to 2 AM like my chem paper did yesterday. That paper on global warming was probably the worst thing I’ve ever written in high school, and it too me so long, and yet, I still got a 95% on it because it was pass fail, where pass equals your gpa for the year. Time to answer some questions.

sunshine - blame yourself, but I don’t think you’ll have to. You don’t really have to. It’s probably better to see the colleges you want while they are in session than in the summer anyway. I saw colleges like Harvey Mudd and Claremont Mckenna over the summer, I really liked them, but in the end I decided not to apply to them. You get a more worthwhile visit if you can see actual students interacting, and visit classes. Start thinking about the type of characteristics you want in colleges though.

snoopy - because they think it is funny.

Tri - Yes and no. At schools with rolling admissions like Upitt or Penn State, this is extremely important, spots fill up quickly. For most private schools, its not a big deal. I do think sending my Columbia application a bit before the deadline enabled it to be read sooner, and thus I received a likely letter, so you might want to try for that, other than that, just try not to overwhelm the server on the deadline. (Schools generally accept late applications thought).

SZ - it is in your dna.

venkat - My parents named me after some angel or something. (Thanks for the heads up Ilikedice)

not - unscrewed light bulbs are inanimate objects and cannot perform actions on their own, no matter how numerous they are.

d_a - No. In fact the 66 is short for 660, the am radio station, thanks to aim character limits. I’m not crazy I’m just a little unwell. Not gonna argue with the first one.

Ilikedice - You are a stickler for details and like showing your intellectual superiority on anonymous Internet message boards.

sunshine - what? Don’t eat junk food. Eat protein.

Ilikedice, I knew that wherefore means why are you. I just wanted to ask that.

Mike,

What it do?

Venkat the Great

As a person who has just went through the admission’s process, what do you recommend to soon to be seniors like me?

Mike, how do you think debate addict feels now that he’s had chocolate sauce thrown all over him? (fb)

You do know that is part of the lyrics of a song, right??

(thanks to alice :p)

Mike, do you think women’s entry in the legal profession will always be ridiculed and threatened by men? If not, what is the basis of your answer; meaning can you give a sound reason why women in the legal profession will not be ridiculed by men?

Mike, why haven’t you even asked yourself a question?

Cuz he’s omniscient stuck, DUUUUUUUUH

what’s with the bold text in all your posts?!!?!?

It’s jambo grool, in case you don’t know

whatever you say…

i’m so bored.

fine, but plzz pet my Tofurky!

again, okay…

Mike,

If I go to college and don’t make a facebook, will I be a social pariah?

that depends on you, really.

venkat - what it is.

Tritum - know what you are looking for in a school. Look for schools that have a variety of programs, because you probably won’t do the same thing you applied for. You don’t need to apply to schools you won’t go to. Make sure your application is complete. I recently wrote a nice thread on Columbia admissions, you can check that out for tips. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=349649

not - he is in virtual pain.

d_a - yes. yes i do. matchbox 20.

baller - You will get a biased response from me, because my mother is a lawyer. She was the first female partner in her firm. Today there are a greater number of female lawyers than ever before, however it remains difficult for them to balance an 80 hour week job with having kids, let alone all of the other crazinesses and need for leisure in one’s life. Female lawyers get respected in the same way anyone gets respected, by proving that they are a valued employee and by getting their work done efficiently and effectively. One big problem is law firms today is women who do their work, and male lawyers who are idiots taking their credit. Women tend to be more submissive in these kind of things. It’s a lot easier for a man to be a lawyer than a woman, because of the external social pressures.

not - I’ll ask myself a question now. What should I write about in my speech? (answered in the next ask mike) Bold is added for emphasis.

snoopy - I like facebook because it’s more of a friend organizer and contact (sorta like an address book), and its free.

Mike, while you’re here, how cute is my pet piggie, Robby?

Mike, How many rolls of duct tape does it take to keep flamey quiet?

Dear Mike

I’m in quite a pickle!!

DEBATE_ADDICT OR SYNESTHESIAC?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT SYNESTHESIA IS?? (not the medical disease)

it’s a description of one sense in terms of another, like, “I could see the heat” or “I could smell the cold of the snow”…SO??

will i do it?
