Just paid my $100 and am 80% sure that I’m going to Cal in September. I am currently on waitlist for NYU Stern, and will wait for waitlist decision. I’m simply wondering if Haas undergrad is as good as Stern, and also that among economics, political science, and political economy, which is the strongest at Berkeley.
i am cool
your son is a good boi
@Southoftheclouds Berkeley Haas is far better than Stern / NYU and Berkeley is very strong also in Social Sciences – Economics , Psychology, Political sciences. Here is the link.

I’d like to ask about the Berkeley L&S conditions for the Computer Science program. The conditions state that I must have a 3.0 technical and overall GPA for the Computer Science course so:
(a) Does getting a 3.0 GPA(or above), both technical and overall, guarantee that I will be allowed to pursue a CS major?
(b) I know this might be subjective, but how hard is it to get a 3.0 GPA in the first year?
Thanks a lot in advance to whoever answers
@TheGotei13
3.0 guarantees it.

Hey guys, I was looking through the housing app and couldn’t decide between the Units or Foothill. I’m an incoming EECS major and was told that the Unit 1 mini-suites were great, but at the same time, I really want Foothill for its engineering proximity and…peacefulness? I heard that Unit 1 mini-suites weren’t easy to get, but would the fact that I have the Regents scholarship change anything? Also, when people say the Units are more social/lively, is it a little too loud to study in or find peace of mind? Thanks!!
I got into the Chemical Engineering major. During freshman year, if I so choose, how easy would it be to transfer to the college of engineering?
Is there any difference between Chem E in College of Engineering and College of Chemistry?
@TheGotei13, it really depends on the type of person you are and what other things you are doing. For example, if you have zero coding experience, and do a lab science (more specifically, bio/chem intro classes), plus a lot of clubs/work, you are going to have a hard time. But if you learn quickly and/or have some prior experience, it will likely still be a bit of work, but manageable. The class average for the intro class (61A) is a B-, which is lower than a 3.0, so keep that in mind too.
@shalooky: There’s a lot of people who want to transfer to the college of engineering. I think it may depend major to major. I don’t know the specifics, but here is more info: http://engineering.berkeley.edu/admissions/undergrad-admissions/change-college
@newguy14: I believe there’s only Chem E in College of Chemistry. It doesn’t appear on the list of majors on the College of Engineering. See here: http://engineering.berkeley.edu/academics/majors-minors/single-major
Is Applied Mathematics useful/rigorous as other engineering majors?
Also, is it fairly easy to switch from applied mathematics to engineering majors?
applied mathematics is in the College of Letters and Science, engineering is in the College of Engineering, you can’t switch because they do admissions separately (engineering is harder to get into)
@Masterball But would you consider Applied Mathematics to be a useful major/viable major to go for?
I heard it’s the “easier way” to enter UCB, but at the same time, I dont know if it will be worth it to have that major.
I was pointed to this thread by someone and I’m stunned that it’s still running nearly 8 years after I first posted it. Wow. And I’m here nearing 6 years since graduation…
Now back to your regularly scheduled questions.
Hey guys,
What events are going on this coming weekend that are important to attend for transfer?
I’ve already RSVP’d to the chancellors welcome on Saturday but other than that what events for are happening?
Hi guys, I am from Malaysia. I have a serious problem.
I am interested to major in economics and finance. However my parents want me to study medicine. My parents are willing to “compromise” by letting me study economics and finance. But they set the rules that the university must be a top 50 uni in the world according the Times Higher Education Ranking. I did a bit of research and i found out that UC Berkeley is very strong in areas which i have a strong interests i.e. economics, finance and technology(computer science or software engineering). I have not taken the SAT yet. I spoke to my counsellor and she told me that it would be easier to transfer to UC Berkeley from a so called “community college” compared to applying straight. Is it true? I will be frank, I am not quite a brilliant student, my grades for my A Levels are ABB. What would you guys advise me? Do you guys think I stand a chance? I am really stressed out man.
Thanks in advance guys.
Hey guys,
I was recently admitted to UC Berkeley off the waitlist. However, when I tried to enroll, the website would not let me attend the regular fall program for freshman and I can’t study abroad either because I don’t meet the age requirements.
The only option I have left apparently is to enroll in January 2016 and if that’s the case I would rather just not attend Berkeley at all and go to NYU Stern (where I was previously planning to go), but I already submitted my SIR.
I emailed and called the admissions office and they confirmed that my only option was to enroll in January 2016. Is there any way of working around this?
Thanks for any advice.
Hi, i wanna ask hows cal student clubs? Is it very diverse and easy to join? Especially for the international student club?
Thanks
I’m an incoming freshman and I just wanted to know if the schedule I have planned would be manageable for the average Berkeley student? I’m an Econ major hoping to transfer into Haas eventually.
African Studies Seminar, P/NP, 1 unit (Schedule filler)
Math 16A, LG, 3 units (Pre- Req)
L&S 5 (Entrepreneurship), P/NP, 2 units (I thought it would be interesting)
Nutrition and Toxicology 10, LG, 3 units (Biological Sciences breadth)
Peace and Conflict Studies 10, LG, 4 units (Social and Behavioral breadth)
Hi,
Can you guys tell me about college credit transfers?
I took Multivariable Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra at a local community college and I’m wondering how this will affect college credits and stuff. (All of those courses are UC approved)
