Hi I’m a graduating high school senior and I just got waitlisted from Google CSSI so are there any programs out there that I can still apply to, specifically in STEM?
Any Economics-Focused Programs that are happening online?
None that I know of.
@GoBears2023 Hi, I’ve just started researching research programs and was wondering if you could compare the prestige and quality of Iowa sstp, bu rise, hshsp, Simons, Garcia, Clark scholars, ucsc sip, and Florida sstp. Sorry if this is a lot, I’m fairly new to all of this!
@GoBears2023 Weird question - is it worth it to mention to college apps or future summer program apps that I was accepted into a relatively selective summer program, even if I didn’t attend? For context this is about a decently well known math program that sent out info very recently, but I’m already doing a different program so i can’t attend now.
@GoBears2023 Hi I love what you’re doing with this thread! I’m a graduated international hs senior and I thought I was done with admissions so I planned on doing literally nothing this summer. I actually changed my mind last minute because of influence from covid and whatnot so I’m back in the college admissions game, but the couple of programs I looked at, it’s way too late to apply. Do you know of good programs, preferably free to low cost still open? I want to do medical stuff in college but I’m also really into maths and languages. I’ve just finished multivariable calculus and linear algebra this year so I was thinking maybe I could continue my maths education.
Obviously, I’d love if I could boost my resume but I’d also be happy if you give me a few pointers for good educational ones.
Thank you again for the work you’re doing!
@dg2004
I compared them somewhere earlier in this thread. Let me know if you can’t find it, I can make a map of everything.
You cannot mention programs that you may possibly get into because you haven’t attended them. If this was the case, I would’ve said I got into RSI even though i was an alternate.
@aqua36
I don’t know any. I would say hit up mit open courseware to learn something.
Can you apply to COSMOS as an out of state 8th grader?
@thestanforddream
You can try but from my own personal experience, I have never met an out-of-state student at COSMOS. They prioritize California residents since it’s a state funded program/
oh then what other programs would you recommend for an 8th grader in Texas?
@thestanforddream
Usually there aren’t really any prestigious programs for 8th and 9th graders. I don’t know of any off the top of my head. Maybe someone else here can point you in the right direction.
As a non-Bay Area California person, are my chances of getting into SIMR near 0? How many non-bay area kids are taken? What do they tend to look for and value? What does a sample accepted profile look like? Can you only send 1 LOR? (I’m asking mostly for the 8 main institutes of research that they have, not the bioengineering bootcamp.) Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere.
MIT PRIMES, but that’s for Boston area students. PRIMES USA is open to the rest of the country, but that’s only for juniors.
Ah yes, MIT PRIMES. I always forget about it. I’ll be sure to mention it in the future. Thanks for the helpful suggestion!
@Math Mastermind as far I know, they look primarily for bay area students since you have to commute there. However, with the given COVID situation, I’ve been hearing rumors that these sorts of camps may start offering more remote options, although this is not confirmed.
Hi! I was wondering if having all or most of your summer courses and internships in one university look poorly on your application when applying to other schools?
No. My son had his most significant activity at one HYPSM. He was accepted there as well as others.
But your essays should make clear why you are applying to that college. Colleges tend to accept students that can explain why they want to be there specifically.
@GoBears2023 Would you be willing to review my RSI 2021 essays??
Anyone done the Frontiers of Science Institute program at University of Northern Colorado as an out-of-state student?
I’m unsure if this is legit and I’m from CA.
hi!! hs freshman from oregon here. not planning on attending any important summer programs this year (mainly due to covid). i’m really interested in medicine, more specifically genetics. i don’t have a ton of stem experience at the moment, although i plan on starting a HOSA chapter at my school next year?
any ideas of what i could do this summer? anything that can be done locally would be GREAT. thanks in advance!!
