Most of the freshman that I know going to ASU want to live in Hassy (Hassyampa). I think they are the newest dorms, and I wouldn’t doubt if a lot of parties took place there. It’s in the southern corner of campus, right next to the Barrett complex.

Yeah, Hassy=party dorms. Barrett’s actually the newest, but that’s not an option if you’re not in Barrett. Hassy’s very new too, supposed to be pretty nice rooms. Most people seem to want them.

The rooms in Hassy aren’t very nice - at least, the ones I saw weren’t anything special. Lots of concrete, and the rooms I saw didn’t even have a ceiling light. Most people want to live there because they are the party dorms.

The dorms at ASU are major specific so you get what dorm they want to give you based on what your major is
It has its perks on the educational side, but the social side spreads out the campus, and what used to be the party kids being at the party halls like Manzanita is now everywhere
so personally as long as your major doesnt put you in the crappy old dorms like Best or Hayden you will be just fine, I took a tour recently and the dorms are nice compared to U of A, however U of A is the place for me, ASU is getting to strict lately. But even the old dorms at ASU are still decent, just community bathrooms instead of suite. BTW all dorms at U of A are communal. But at least we can pick our own dorms, and they offer triples.

I lived in Hassy last year. I liked it, it was fairly new, although pretty noisy all the time. My suggestions are:

If you want to party:
Hassy, Sonora, Adelphi II (if available?)

If you want apartment-style:
Cholla, McClintock, Sonora (to an extent)

If you want new & modern:
San Pablo, Hassy or Barrett (honors only)

If you want community-oriented, laidback:
PV East, West & Main

If you don’t mind community bathrooms:
Best, Irish, Hayden (they’re all really community-oriented too! I actually liked them a lot because of it)

If you want the most room:
San Pablo, some rooms in Hassy, Best

Some things to consider!

The closest to campus is the Center complex, basically, it is the most convenient. You can easily walk to the library, MU, and SRC (gym).

North campus is fairly older, and does not have as many places open at night. Although, they are close to the stadiums and have Devil’s Greens (soup & salad bar, my favorite!) and Devil’s Diner which I would walk to multiple times a day because I loved them both!

North and Center campus are where you want to be if you value community the most. Not to say you wont make friends on South campus, you will. But it just doesn’t have the openness and dorm feel that these two complexes do.

South campus is convenient. Things are always open late at night (Jimmy Johns, Dominos, etc, etc) and if you want to walk to Safeway or restaurants you can. It’s also where a lot more partying takes place. It is the most modern, and most agree it has the better dining halls like Barrett and Hassy.

Hope that helps you decide! Honestly, look at the floorplans and pick what suits you best. If you aren’t in your room a lot, you may not want to roomiest place. Or if you need to catch public transportation for an off-campus job, you might want to look up what works best.

Here is the run-down:

Manzanita: avoid at all costs.
Hassyampa: BEST non-honors dorm and also good proximity to campus.
Vista Del Sol: Officially “off campus” but they have freshman dorms which are very nice. Expect LOTS of partying and frat dudes.
All the other dorms are ****. Also, you can live in the honors dorms as a non-honors student.

As a freshman and only child, I am worried about the rep of ASU as a party school and specifically Floor C being coed. Any reviews/testimonials about how it works? I’d love some feedback. Where is the Healthy Living Dorm in case the partying is too much?

I thought all asu dorms were coed? Anyway, i lived in barrett and the partying was not too bad… although 4.20 was awful. everything reeeked! i think you should be fine. I dont know much about that specific dorm, but judging from what I have seen most of the partying takes place off campus (vista, the vue, frat row… private homes…)

Best C is actually 5 floors. I lived there last year. The only dorms on ASU’s campus that aren’t co-ed are Best A and B, and they are co-ed, just by floor (boys on first, girls on second, etc). My room was right by the boys bathroom, which sucked because I am not a boy, and the girls room was all the way around the hall. The nice thing about Best is that you don’t have to go outside to get to your communal bathroom. You really don’t notice that there are boys and girls on your floor, other than at floor meetings, and sometimes people are a little loud.

Honestly, you’re in college now. You are going to have a roommate of the same gender as you, and after that, make do with what you have. You’re going to have to deal with the opposite gender at some point.

And as far as partying, I wouldn’t say that Best was too bad about it. If there were parties, I really didn’t notice them if I was in my room. You can choose not to participate.

I don’t know why everyone thinks that you HAVE to party if there is a party. You can definitely elect not to. The rooms in Best aren’t big enough to throw parties anyway.
