ASU WP Carey Finance Major with Leaders Academy & Barrett

I am between a few schools still since I was recently off the waitlist at a private college. I toured ASU and liked it, but still do not have much information on the quality of the school as well as opportunities. I am in Barrett and therefore the Leader’s Academy pursuing a Finance major, likely minor in PoliSci too. If anyone could attest to their experiences with opportunities at ASU, the quality of professors, and if ASU is simply just a party school, I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi @edhkid, I’m obviously a bit biased, but here’s a pretty good book that came out this year which has a few passages on ASU and it’s party school reputation.

@edhkid: There’s not a lot of partying at Barrett and ASU is trying really hard to get rid of its party school reputation. I don’t think that should be a big concern. As a large university there are a lot of opportunities, but also as a large university there’s not as much hand-holding as at a smaller college. If you want the opportunities you need to seek them out. The latter part of what I said stems from a conversation I had with a graduate of DS’s HS who was comparing her Barrett experience with that of her friend who went to a small LAC. She was very happy with the opportunities she had and that she had learned to advocate for herself. As with all large universities, the quality of the professors vary. I don’t know anything about the business school.

As a current business and barrett student, I would say ASU is an amazing choice. Barrett is very academically oriented and the students do very well. there is not a ton of partying as some people might say. i have had nothing but fantastic professors and barrett students get priority registration so you get first choice in classes.
